Nightshift 45: Main Hallway, 1-Center

[from here.]There seemed to be a lot more options here, Aerith noted as she passed a few doors along the way. Maybe she'd come to center of the building? It was hard to tell, and her sense of direction wasn't fantastic. She was lucky if she'd remember the path she'd taken so whimsically to get here. Stopping in front of a particularly large set of ( Read more... )

After a boring period of nothing to do but follow the same route as always through the halls, HK arrived to find... more nothing at the RV point.

"Observation: She is not here. We seem to be early." That was somewhere between irritating and a relief. Among other things, it would mean that if SubZero turned up, he would probably be the late one. And then HK could insult him from a position of superiority.

Lance followed HK, keeping close so they wouldn't lose each other in the dark. This place was as black as a coal mine at night. The builder couldn't have been bothered to at least put some windows in this place?

This was starting to look like the setup of some horror movie. All they were missing were some airhead white girls with big tits.

"So, what's the plan when she gets here?" Lance asked.

"Answer: We will likely head for the basement. There are some unusual things hidden there, which we have been exploring." He scanned the hallway, looking for potential targets or the other assassins.

"Query: Do you still believe that this is a normal psych medcenter?"

"And why exactly are you draggin' me along for the ride?" He asked. "Thought you said I didn't usually go with you." HK had better not be planning on killing him for not being his precious Lockdown. Lance had an axe and he wasn't afraid to use it.

He raised an eyebrow at the younger man. "What else would it be?" Sangamon had mentioned the whole "the doors open at night" thing, but that was it. As far as Lance knew, there was nothing else weird going on. Sure, the doors opening by themselves was bizarre, but there was probably some rational explaination for it. Real life wasn't some horror flick.

"Answer: Because you are not Lockdown, I do not trust you to not get yourself maimed if left to your own devices. There are reasons why we all outfit ourselves with weapons, you know," HK chided, giving the meatbag a look that probably wasn't visible in the dark.

"Statement: A facility that pretends to be a competent medcenter but is actually some sort of yet to be determined special hell for those trapped inside? And how exactly do you think we came into possession of axes and I received a professionally made knife if this was a facility that cared about the safety of its inhabitants?"

"I ain't helpless," Lance growled. "Whatever crazy shit you and Lockdown saw, it ain't happenin' to me." Okay, sure he had an answer to why they had the weapons, but for whatever reason they thought they needed them, it was most likely all part of their conditions. Lance wasn't nuts anymore, so he wouldn't see anything.

And what HK said after that just further proved that. "News flash, kid. Asylums're usually hell for the patients. As for the weapons, we could've just picked 'em up while wandering around."

Wow. He'd forgotten meatbags could experience denial to such amazing levels of stupidity. "...Query: A forearm-length knife, custom-made to my specifications, just happened to be lying around in a place where we aren't even given metal dining utensils for the legitimate fear that someone might lose a pancreas?"

Okay, Lance had to admit the guy had a good point. "I dunno, you could've gotten it from contraband or somethin'." Asylums had contraband storage, right? Hell if he knew how these places opperated outside of the movies and TV.

"This gal friend of yours better show up soon, or I'm going right back to the cell and sleepin'." Then again, it was so dark here that he might get lost on the way back. HK must have had very good night vision.

"Statement: They do not keep contraband here." Just the falsified personal effects, and HK was not going to get into explaining that because it probably just wouldn't work.

"She will. She is very, very insistent on being punctual. She also has a katana to back up said insistence." That sword was quite impressive and worrying, especially how she had been so willing to stab a groundcar with it.

Lance snorted, then growled, "Fine, what do I know? I was out when Lockdown was in charge, remember?" Besides, HK was crazy. Whatever information he gave was probably crazy too.

"A katana? You mean like the kind they use in samurai movies?"

"Affirmative: Yes, I do know that. That is why I am explaining everything that might need explaining, because I am actually being nice for once, meatbag," HK shot back, irritated.

"Statement: I don't know what a 'samurai' is. I have merely heard reference to the type of blade that the female assassin possesses." He didn't know anything about this planet, why should he know about what kind of vids they liked to watch?

"Alright, sheesh, don't get your panties in a bunch," Lance replied in the same tone. He was starting to wonder what Lockdown saw in this kid. Then again, for all he knew Lockdown had just been using HK for sex. If Lockdown had been horney enough it only made sense to use someone you had regular access to.

"Well, I ain't one to mess with a lady with a blade," Lance knew from experience that gals could be downright scary when pissed off.

HK sighed, trying to come up with something to say in response to that and failing utterly. He wanted Lockdown back. He wanted his confusing, unsubtle, perverted cellmate back.

"Statement: A sensible decision. She is a very effective fighter, likely trained in the use of the weapon she has acquired." That, or humans had more innate programming in puréeing their own kind then he thought.

The sword in question was across Beatrix's back, complete with sheath, with the hilt sticking up over her right shoulder. It complimented her other armament well with several knives in a makeshift holder made from an oven mitt at her hip.

"I am a master in the exquisite art of the samurai sword," the Bride stated as she drew within hearing range of the droid and... Lockdown. This was an interesting and unwanted development. Why did HK-47 bring Lockdown? And here she'd thought the droid wanted to be spared reminders of his loss of virginity.

Cold eyes flickered to HK-47. "Bringing playmates along? You know what happened to the last one that came along." Ophelia was quite pathetic in the last moments of her life before her heart exploded. "And here I thought you liked this one."

Lance turned his head to the newcomer, giving her an approving look. She was actually a lot prettier than Lance had pictured her. The sword on her back was all that kept him from whistling at her. Last thing he wanted was to lose an arm. Or a head.

He shot HK a hard look. "Something you ain't tellin' me, kid?" It was both a question of 'what happened to the other playmate' and you ain't trying to get rid of me, right?

Oh, there she was. Finally. HK kept any snarky comments to himself for the moment. "Statement: I have not seen SubZero today at all, despite his highly identifiable heat signature. Combined with the fact that, uh, Lance does not currently remember being Lockdown or how this facility operates at night, I thought it was prudent to bring along someone if we are to attempt to make any progress in the basement again."

"Query: Did I forget to say that? Statement: The last meatbag that was recruited to come along with our group decided for no particular reason to betray us. She was dispatched last night in response to another attempt to attack us." In quite a spectacular fashion. HK had been quite impressed.
