Nightshift 22 - Hallway between M and F blocks

Mar 13, 2007 16:39

Even though it was her fourth night, Kaylee still didn't really understand the mechanics of Nightshift. She had yet to be attacked by any of the monsters that she'd heard about from other patients, and felt quite safe going alone ( Read more... )

Upon entering the hallway again, Sora was surprised to find it more or less empty. There were no signs of any battles, either, as far as he could tell. That could either be good or bad. The monsters might be avoiding this area, or it might be due for an attack.

They had already fought two cats - he had hope that they could at least make it to Renji without another encounter. This, of course, meant that haste was the name of the game. He figured there were enough people in their little group that he didn't keep having to glance over his shoulder to check on the others.

He did get the feeling, however, that once they found Renji they might need to split up. Six people trying to traverse the hallways together wasn't going to work.

Kairi followed Sora and the rest of her new friends in silence. Claire's voice was still surprising to her, and she kept thinking up random things that should happen to the two of them, like they could talk at the same time and confuse everyone ... or she could copy Claire's odd accent ... or ... or ... oh, the ideas were endless!

Then she realized she was being silly, and decided to stop thinking about such random things.

The ground traveled in silence, and she simply could not handle the quiet. That, and she was a tad bit curious as to where they were heading. So, finally, after deciding if she should speak or not, she decided that yes, she should, and so she whispered. "Where are we heading to, anyway?"

Rangiku took up position at the rear of the group, wanting to ensure that they had warning if there was an attack from behind. While she trusted Rukia, the other shinigami was injured, and the other two girls were still children with unknown capabilities. She got the impression that they didn't have much battle experience.

"Renji said he would meet us at M26," she said, answering Kairi's question without turning around to her. Without her abilities, she needed to be even more on guard to ensure they had as much warning as possible. She missed Haineko, despite the sword's lazy nature.

Seeing Rangiku take rear guard, Rukia got behind Sora, staying quiet as they walked. She wasn't sure if there were more of those cat-things, or worse, around, but she didn't want to take the chance of making too much noise until they go to their destination.

She glanced back when Kairi spoke, wishing the girl would wait to ask questions. Then again, she had apparently been here longer than Rukia, and was still on one piece.

Claire stayed silent along with everyone else, not wanting to provoke any creature that might have been lurking in the darkness. When Rangiku decided to walk behind everyone, Claire unconsciously drifted close to Kairi. She had a feeling Kairi didn't have battle experience - not that she had any, either, but Claire knew she could heal. Her thoughts drifted to what, if any, powers Kairi had. Looks could be deceiving.

It seemed that for the most part, everyone was being quiet. Kairi was one perpetrator of that, but she really didn't know any better. Sora didn't blame her for it, since it didn't seem like her voice had carried enough to attract anything as they made their way to the male block. It didn't seem like anyone else was too bothered by the small blunder, either - or if they were, they didn't say anything.

Into the block they went, and from there it was smooth sailing toward M26. He'd gone to meet Renji and Nowe there the past two nights, so he had the way memorized by now. Still, he had quite the entourage this time, which made him feel important. He'd managed to gather everyone up, and he got the feeling Renji would be proud.
