Night 45: F11-F20 Hallway

Nov 21, 2009 12:33

Beatrix barely noticed that her roommate had never shown up. Her and Daphne had spoken so little, she could honestly say she didn't care. Her concerns were with who she might get saddled with this upcoming night or if she'd be given the privilege of being in a single room for a while. It would be nice, that's for certain ( Read more... )

The girl's room was only a hallway over, so reaching it was fairly quickly this early in the night. There were few out, which was a boon considering how much room Teresa took up in the hallway with the half-bedframe across her back.

Once at the girl's door, Teresa knocked. Euphy wasn't expecting her, but that didn't mean the girl wouldn't be grateful to see her. Teresa just wanted to make sure the girl was reasonably intact before she went to find something to do.

The other princess in the room answered the door, peering out cautiously as she opened it just a crack. She opened it the rest of the way when her flashlight revealed the towering form of Teresa standing there.

"Good evening, Teresa," she said coolly, not sure what to make of this visit. She hadn't given any indication of her room number when they had spoken before, so how had she found her? She knew the warrior had a way to track down demons, but she had implied that Hime hadn't qualified as one, so then... coincidence? Was she here for Euphemia? "Imagine meeting again so soon."

A slight smirk coming to her face, she stepped back to let the woman in, mostly because it seemed like a poor idea to stand in the way of someone who was almost half a foot taller than her and appeared to be carrying part of a bedframe, presumably as a weapon.

"Ah, good evening," Euphemia said, standing and bowing just a bit. "How are you, Teresa? Hime-san, you know her, too?" Of course, the Institute wasn't so big as any of the large cities she knew from home, but. It was a bit of a 'small world' effect.

Teresa knew there was a good chance that Euphemia's roommate would still be present, but she had not considered the likelihood that it was someone she knew, much less had been the non-human she'd spent most of her lunch with.

"Imagine that," the tall warrior said, her lips curling up in the faintest of smiles.

Her eyes then moved beyond the blonde to the pink-haired girl. She was already starting to brush past Hime when the girl stepped back to admit her entrance, the movement clarifying which of the residents she had arrived to see.

"We met at lunch," Teresa answered. Halfway across the room, she paused and looked back over her shoulder at Hime. "Are you doing anything worthwhile this night?"

It seemed the warrior wasn't one to startle easily. Convenient; some people wasted so much of their lives getting excited over the most mundane happenstances.

It seemed Hime's guess was right and her roommate was the reason for the visit. The question was an interesting one though, not in and of itself but of what it implied.

"Ideally, yes," said the Royal, a bit rueful as she recalled the previous night. "Though the specifics are still negotiable. I've no plans to meet anyone, but venturing out alone doesn't seem advisable in this place."

Euphemia simply nodded at the explanation. So, then, those two were friends? Well, that was a convenient circumstance. She felt a bit better knowing that.

"No, I wouldn't think so. I...I think I'm going to actually stay in tonight, try and get some sleep. I'm not a fighter by nature, and I don't want to run into anything I can't handle," she said.

...never mind she'd just cry herself to sleep. But the freedom to do that was something she wanted.

Friends was a bit of an overstatement, but out of those Teresa had met, she found Hime to be tolerable and someone she did not currently mind being around for an extended period of time. As it was, the fact that Hime did not have any specific plans but a desire for something worthwhile fell in line with her own.

"It is wise to travel with another," Teresa commented. "Should you wish to accompany me, I plan on heading to the far side tonight. Though my destination is far from set in stone."

The warrior's hand came up to undo the tie holding her weapon to her back, the metal object clanking onto the floor where she laid it. She then sat down on Euphemia's bed. "You should stay inside, Euphy," she said to the girl. "Today has been... intense, I am sure, for you."

While Teresa lacked certain qualities Hime looked for in a servant - namely, the willingness to serve and submit to her will - she was strong and competent, so it wasn't an offer she was about to turn down. Hime still lacked anything more than a knife of questionable sharpness in the department of armaments, so having someone who could wield a chunk of metal as long as she was tall would be a welcome addition to her vanguard.

"That sounds like a plan I can agree with," said the Royal with a smile, even if she would rather change the order of who was accompanying who. Again, small details not worth getting worked up over.

As Hime picked up the aforementioned knife, she took note of the other two. Perhaps she'd give them time to talk, seeing as that was likely why Teresa had come here to begin with.

"I'll meet you out in the main hallway; perhaps I can enlist another pair of hands," she said before heading out the door.

"That's one way of putting it," the princess said, nodding. "I'd call it...today has broken my heart. I...I know the truth now. I know that I..."

She looked down at her hands, and couldn't help imagining them stained deep red with blood. "I did everything that Rolo said I did. And I died afterwards. It was the only way to stop everything, but..."

Euphemia began to cry softly as she continued. "The worst part is that my own flesh and blood, my brother, the one who - unintentionally - caused all of this didn't remember it. He gave into this place's lies. Why did he...why did he do that?"

Teresa gave Hime a nod as the girl left before she turned her attention to Euphemia. The girl wasn't making the most amount of sense, but it sounded like she'd just said that Lelouch was involved in the massacre and had denied...

Oh. That explained why something seemed amiss this morning, she thought.

Turning to fully face the girl, Teresa took Euphy's hands in her own, for a brief moment fascinated by the difference between them. "I don't think he had a choice in the matter. I spoke with him at breakfast and something had seemed off. Now I know." A pause. "You aren't being very clear. Who told you what?" Suzaku, most likely given the girl's sobbing this morning, but she did not want to let her own opinions on the matter color her assumptions.

"S-suzaku told me," she said, through her tears. "I...I told him what happened last night. He told me everything after that. He had to, and I...I'm not mad at him for it, because...he said everything. I don't blame him for denying what happened. He was just looking out for me. And it wasn't anyone's fault, I know that, but..."

That didn't change the fact that having Lelouch just brush all that off stung far, far more than it should have. "Lelouch didn't even know what I was talking about. He tried to act like it was all a lie."

"Like what was a lie? The ceremony ending up the way it did or something else?"

While she waited for the girl to formulate and answer, and while her own mind was putting pieces together, Teresa pulled Euphy to her. The girl was crying again, and just like before, Teresa would be something solid for her.

"That everything from home was a lie. He...this place made some people think their 'false lives' were real. And I thought Lelouch was stronger than this place's lies. I...I don't know what to think anymore."

She wrapped her arms around Teresa, trying not to cry, but that much was hard.

"From what I gather, no one is." Teresa left off the but me.

The warrior rest her hand on top of Euphy's head. "Perhaps it is a fleeting moment, like the other instances of brainwashing this place practices."

"I do not know," Teresa replied. "There are many forces that are to powerful for a person to fight. Such as the one that forced you to shed blood. Such as this."
