Coming out into the main hallway, Hime spotted only one other. She was ahead of the flow of patients that had been present at the beginning of last night. Settling against the wall between the two doors leading to the patients rooms, Hime waited to see who would be coming by with one ear listening for more hostile approaches.
Now, where was someone that looked like she could use?
When Kagura entered the main hallway, she sensed a presence to her left. Since she didn't know if it was a friend or enemy, Kagura took a guarded stance with her clothing rod and aimed her flashlight at the figure. When she recognized the other girl, Kagura became relieved. "Is that you Hime-san?"
A number of figures passed by, but they all seemed to be rather in a hurry or on their own various missions. She needed someone that she could... direct, so to speak.
As it happened, she was just considering this when someone rudely pointed their flashlight in her face. It was understandable, given the dangers a figure just waiting there in the semi-darkness could represent, but that didn't lessen the sour look on the princess's face as she covered her eyes with one arm.
"...yes. Please direct your flashlight elsewear, Kagura," she suggested dryly. She couldn't see the girl, but it was easy to tell by the voice and process of elimination given how few others she'd spoken with so far here.
"Sorry about that," Kagura said, quickly aiming her flashlight at the ground. She hadn't meant to blind Hime, but it was better to be alive than courteous.
"So, what are you doing Hime-san?" It went without saying that the blonde was probably exploring the institute, but what Kagura wanted to know was if Hime had an actual plan, unlike her.
Hime gratefully lowered her arm when the flashlight was pointed away. Others might have scolded the girl or at least acknowledged the apology, but as far as Hime was concerned, now that the situation was resolved, there was nothing more to say.
"Reconnaissance," she replied simply. Both of the institute itself and of its population. "I'm wary of venturing out alone too far though. Do you have any plans?"
The fact that she even asked this meant that the Royal still considered the girl to be a stranger and not of Hime's jurisdiction. Had it been any of her servants or acquaintances, she would have been much more direct about enlisting their assistance.
"Not really," Kagura confessed. At first, she wasn't sure if she should be bashful of the admission or not, but she ultimately decided now wasn't exactly the time to be embarrassed. "Would you like some company?"
Kagura was more than willing to lend a hand to Hime, but she didn't want to impose. Traveling together would probably be much safer though.
"I would," Hime said with a small smile. Kagura was unarmed, but if her "doppleganger" from the previous night had been a memory replayed, then the girl was at least familiar with violence. Still, "stabbing" was something anyone could do, so she had to be sure.
"Do you have any sort of fighting experience?" she asked, eying the girl. She didn't look very strong, but then, neither did Hime.
"Great." Kagura returned the smile offered by Hime; she was glad to be accompanying someone she knew, sort of.
"Uh yeah," Kagura replied to Hime's question. "I've been trained in martial arts and houjutsu since I could pretty much walk. As for actual experience, back home, it was my job to exorcise evil spirits, so you don't have to worry about me."
Training might be an understatement. Kagura could remember times when she coughed up blood or when it felt like her internal organs had moved, but the effort was well worth it. Thanks to all her training, Kagura's deceptively lithe body had slayed mythic beasts far greater than human imagination.
"What about you?" Kagura assumed Hime had some sort of martial arts training. There was just something about the way the other girl moved that screamed more than noble grace. Besides, Hime didn't strike Kagura as the sheltered type, since she seemed to be taking her imprisonment quite well.
Hime nodded in approval; so she was some kind of exorcist? Not usually a physically dangerous job, but the Royal had encountered plenty of ghosts that put up a fight.
"Me? I've had some formal fencing training, but I've more than enough experience fighting off every sort of monster imaginable with just as many different weapons," she said confidently, idly flicking about the knife in her hand. "I suppose we should be able to deal just fine, then."
Getting off the wall, Hime stepped forwards, stretching her arms a little to limber up after leaning against it for so long.
"Well, anywhere in particular you want to head?" she asked. Hime had no exact priorities, as long as it yielded some net gain. Possibly enlisting Kagura, if she was as good at combat as she boast, might count as such.
So, Hime did have some formal training. That was a relief, and from her words, it sounded like she was no stranger to real combat.
"Not really. I want to get to the bottom of this and find our captors, but I don't know where to start," Kagura answered. She didn't believe the Head Doctor was just sitting in his office waiting for a horde of angry patients to gang up on him. To be perfectly honest, she had been hoping Hime would have a plan.
He was far more used to the pathway by now than he would ahve liked, but that at least made the trip seem to go faster for the boy. After using up half of the night in waiting, not wasting more time being lost in the hallways was a good thing.
Sokka got to the hallway quickly and immediately flashed the light around to see if he spotted any of the "Fire Nation" Ninja. He was hopign for Shika, just to make things easier, but the ones he found instead were... almost familiar? Actually, he was pretty sure he recognized a girl there as... "Hey, you're Kagura!" he blurted out, finding it ironic that he'd found her in the same place as the night before.
"Well, there's supposedly doctor's offices over-" Hime's suggestion was cut off as another flashlight washed over them, followed by a shout clearly intended for her companion.
She eyed the boy with a nonplussed expression before turning her impassive gaze to Kagura.
"Hi," Kagura replied to the approaching Sokka. Her eyes lit up when she saw him, while her grip on the clothes rod relaxed a little. She was relieved that he wasn't an enemy, and with another acquaintance, Kagura felt somewhat safer travelling. Even though she didn't know how Sokka would fair in a fight, there was strength in numbers. On the other hand, Hime seemed like she could calmly walk through a war-torn battlefield.
"Um yeah," Kagura answered Hime. "Hime, this is Sokka. I met him last night. Sokka this is Hime. We were just discussing what to do."
He hadn't meant to interrupt anything, but since he was being introduced, Sokka could only think that it hadn't been too important. "Oh, yes, hi!" he greeted the blond woman on Kagura's introductions, "Nice to meet you, Hime. Sorry if I interrupted anything. Just... I'm really used to finding people I know in this part of the building..." Not that he hadn't wanted to find someone he knew here, but Kagura definitely wasn't Shika no matter how you looked at it.
Maybe he'd had something more important to do. Or maybe not. In any event, it didn't hurt to ask.
"Hey, you haven't seen a guy about my age with black hair pulled up in a ponytail, have you?"
"Ah. So the one you were with when you died," noted the princess coolly. If she got the chance, she wanted to know his point of view on last night's events, but now that she knew it had been an institute-wide event and not some kind of monster stalking the halls, it wasn't as pressing an issue. She nodded in his direction. "A pleasure, Sokka."
It seems the boy had come to same conclusion about the building's layout about how the patient population filtered through this area.
"I've been watching this area since the beginning of the night; I haven't seen anyone like that," stated Hime.
"I didn't see anyone like that either. Sorry, we couldn't be of any help Sokka." He must have been referring to one of his allies that he told her about during breakfast. Kagura considered inviting him along, but she didn't want to keep Sokka from any prior arrangements he might have made with his allies. "Are you going to wait around for your friend?"
