Nightshift 44: M-C Block Hallway

Oct 07, 2009 08:05

[From here.]As expected, the next hall was just as dark as the last, but Sync didn't bother to waste any time just loitering around. Following the same idea as last time, the God-General kept close to the wall, using his memory to lead himself across with little effort ( Read more... )

Sakura crept into the relative safety of the dormitory block, though she still used caution as she counted hallways in the dark. It wasn't a familiar section, but she was pretty good at reading maps. So long as the numbering system was correct, M105 shouldn't be far.

"Sakura."

Sai caught sight of pink hair as he turned the corner. Good. He hadn't missed her, and it didn't look like he'd kept her waiting either. Then again, it was possible she hadn't even taken care of her own business yet. If that was the case, did he wait here or did he follow?

Sakura was about to dart down the hallway when she heard Sai's voice. She hesitated. Dammit, was she that slow already? And here she thought she'd gotten a good start! How was Sai so fast?

"Hey. I'm supposed to heal someone in M105. Are you done already? You can come with me if you want."

[ From here. Hi guys!]

Kakashi finally slowed once they reached the hall, and thankfully saw a pair of familiar figures in the darkness. He didn't bother with any of his usual off-putting demeanor this time as he approached; there was nothing cheerful or lighthearted about the situation, and the jounin refused to pretend there was. The only thing they could do was hope to get there in time to make a difference, whether it be to stop the experiment, or ensure Shikamaru wasn't alone for any longer than necessary.

"Sai, Sakura." That Naruto wasn't yet there didn't bode well, particularly not after he hadn't answered Sakura's bulletin. Hopefully the third ninja would show up before they made it too far, or at least run into them on the way. "Shikamaru's been taken. We need to head upstairs."

Momo came to an easy halt next to Kakashi, giving the two teenagers a brief nod in greeting as she folded her hands into her sleeves.

"I am Vice Captain Hinamori Momo. I will be aiding you tonight," she told the pair once Kakashi was done speaking, not wanting to waste any time on introductions. She recognized the boy, but the girl must be relatively new.

So he was early. Sai was about to respond to Sakura when Kakashi and a somewhat familiar woman appeared. He bowed to the latter respectfully before returning his attention to their team leader.

"I am Sai. Kakashi-san, Sakura has promised to heal someone. I can go with her if necessary and we can regroup upstairs." The Institute would provide its own slow form of healing, so whoever Sakura meant to tend to shouldn't be in too much trouble if they stayed in their room. Still, it was a matter of if she would want to make Shikamaru's rescue that much of a priority.

Sakura cursed under her breath when Kakashi brought them the news. Still no Naruto and now Shikamaru had been taken too? That didn't leave them with much time. Tonight was the night they did experiments and she wasn't going to be slow like last time dammit! Even if they weren't great friends, they were teammates and that meant watching each others' backs ( ... )

The ninja acted with calm professionalism, and Kakashi felt a strong sense of pride when Sakura made her choice. Putting the team first was something he'd instilled in his students, and it was good to see it held true despite how Shikamaru and Sakura bickered sometimes ( ... )

"Understood." Sai nodded once, already on the move. This task shouldn't take long. Hopefully, if Naruto did arrive they wouldn't miss each other. He imagined he could spare more time than they might believe. After all, in the weeks he'd been here he'd never once heard of anyone managing to escape before the experiments were completed.
