Howl didn't offer any objections when he was led back to his room. It had been a long day, and he was looking forward to his meal. He'd finally be able to sit down somewhere slightly less packed to the ceiling with loud, chattering people he didn't know, and yet was forced to live alongside. Howl had mostly fond thoughts of of those he had ran into so far. They were kind people, intelligent people, and it was no reflection upon them that Howl was relieved to just take a moment for himself. They were strangers in his life, when even those he felt closest to were stressful. The idea of listening to Sophie berate him sounded comforting at this point.

Technically speaking, however, the moment wasn't entirely his. He had to share it with his taciturn roommate, who was lying prone on his bed, sleeping. Howl made a face, but if being ignored was the only way to get a bit of silence, he'd have to take it.

He strode across the room, and decided to pretend he was perfectly alone. Howl almost went so far as to try and imagine that he was back at home, but it seemed childish upon second thought. Not to mention that it was very rare that he actually ate alone. It killed the illusion very quickly, and he was left with no option but to wallow in homesickness as he ate. His roommate was a non-presence, whether or not Howl was overlooking him.
