Day 44: Men's Showers, Second Shift

Sep 24, 2009 20:24

Okita had woken with a start, his breath coming back to him in a rush. Toward the end of the night, he had sworn he'd seen someone in the shadows - someone no taller than a boy of nine, a mask covering his face, blood running down his front. He'd seen him. There was no way of mistaking that outfit or that mask; and Okita didn't need to see the ( Read more... )

Suzaku made it to the showers quickly, intending to be done before Lelouch even got there. He did have to promise his nurse he would eat lunch, however, because she highly disapproved of his behavior at breakfast and claimed that the only reason he hadn't been physically forced to eat was his former good track record. He supposed she wasn't that bad as far as nurses went, if she was willing to give him that much leeway.

It wasn't that he didn't want to talk to Lelouch, Suzaku thought as he stripped carelessly and ducked under the nearest tap. He just needed some time to think, and he wasn't sure he could face the other boy right away. Things with Lelouch had never been simple, but they'd rarely been this complicated.

Suzaku scrubbed at his hair roughly with the shampoo and didn't bother with conditioner, turning the temperature up as high as it would go to rinse the lather (and everything else) away. He supposed they wouldn't give the option of truly scalding water to patients, which was a shame, so he'd have to satisfy himself with "pretty damn hot." He let it beat down on his body for one vulnerable moment, secure in a place where Euphie couldn't see him, and tried to let the heat burn out all his weakness and confusion.

He did a fairly spotty job of washing himself off, eager to get out of there -- not that there was anywhere to run to, but he felt like he had to keep moving if he wasn't going to fall into helpless despair. Still, he must have somehow been washed both last night and the night before, or he'd have woken up covered in blood both times. So it didn't matter much what he did now, especially because he'd be filthy no matter what he did, no matter what Euphie said.

And he did indeed manage to get out of there before Lelouch even finished breakfast, the one benefit of his Prince being sedated. Of course, there wasn't anywhere else to go. Maybe he'd just sit in a far corner of the Sun Room and hope no one bothered him for a little while.
