Day 22: Intercom, Dinner

Mar 10, 2007 05:16

As the intercom switched on, the shuffling of papers was the first thing that could be heard rather than the voice of the Head Doctor. It seemed he had been going through a lot of them today, a fact which could perhaps be attributed to the fact that so many new patients had flooded the halls of Landel's on this particular afternoon ( Read more... )

Naoe had spent the last few shifts in his room, meditating. He hadn't meant to, it was the best chance to meet new people, make allies, and find out more information. After making that post for Takaya he had come to his room to clear his head. The idea of being alone with the boy was... tempting. Too tempting.

He opened his eyes when the intercom came on again, this time announcing dinner. He hadn't realized he had been in the room for so long. At least he head was clear, his body calm.

He waited for his roommate to appear, curious who it was. He knew the man had seen the post but he wasn't embarrassed. It wasn't possible for him to feel embarrassed anymore.

Not for the first time today, Gin wasn't sure what to expect when the nurse escorted him back to his room. He went quietly, smiling all the way, though inside his mind he was grasping at straws, trying to figure out what to do about this mess ( ... )

Naoe looked up when his roommate came in. It was all he could do to not jump at the sight. Something about this man... if he could be called that... really (for lack of a better term) freaked Naoe out. He was able to calm the reaction almost instantly but a little of it showed in his eyes.

"Good evening," he said softly and carefully, glad for the excuse to focus on dinner rather than stare at his roommate. He wasn't really all that hungry, but he started eating anyway, careful to keep his manners.

It was one of the more interesting reactions he'd received today. Mostly people just avoided him if they were frightened, but that wasn't easy given as he was this man's new roommate. It was actually amusing, after all the obnoxious people today, this one would be fun. Gin picked up one of the utensils he'd been given, though he still wasn't used to not using chopsticks, he managed well enough.

He glanced over at the other man. The message he'd left had been strange and so it wasn't difficult to recall most of it. He'd signed it... someone's faithful dog. And the responses to his message, seemed annoyed, short, abrupt. None of his business, but that didn't keep him from wondering. "Ichimaru Gin," he said, permanent smile set across his lips, "you must be Dog-san, unless you'd rather somethin' else. You new too, or ya been here a while?"

"I have been here for two days," Naoe offered, pausing before he spoke to swallow his food. He looked at Gin, also swallowing his fear.

"You may call me whatever you like, Ichimaru-san, but my name is Tachibana Yoshiaki." He bowed his head slightly. He was being polite, even if he wanted desperately to run.

Two days. Better than a completely new person he supposed. Gin nodded casually in return, eating his food slowly, despite how hungry he was. "Yoshiaki-kun then," he said between bites.

Since the man made no move to ask anything of him, Gin decided to press a few other questions. "I hear th' night gets pretty dicey 'round here. How's a fella like you keep from getting himself killed? Stayin' with a big group maybe? No, that's not it... I think th' note said you were meetin' just one person."
