Nightshift 43: Cafeteria

[From here.]In Sync's eyes there was no such thing as falling 'gracefully', especially when it was face first onto the floor after a rather sloppy escape. The teen had fallen several feet from the door, having used a burst of strength to at least pull himself as far away from the last room as possible ( Read more... )

Beatrix would have been lying if she claimed she hadn't been catching glimpses of both Bill and O-Ren out of the corner of her eyes since they entered the cafeteria. The difference was, she knew those two were dead having killed them herself. Out of all the murders she'd committed, those were the only two that ever revisited her mind - one her lover and BB's father and the other her best friend. Still, they were dead and she wasn't about to go chasing after ghosts.

Apparently Venom thought otherwise, or so the Bride assumed given the way he wandered off as if chasing something.

Standing on the table, she watched Venom exit without a word. She might not have had ice abilities like SubZero, but that didn't mean she was incapable of presenting an icy aura. Beatrix was rather angry and she drew her sword, eyes locked on the man's back until the door shut behind him. In the end, the only reason she did not move to cut the man down was she felt that right did not belong to her, but to SubZero, just like Ophelia's head belonged to her.

"Do you know which room is HK's? I would like to go remove Lockdown's genitalia," she said in a deadly calm voice, "unless an easy hostage presents itself real soon."

SubZero had been irritated when Venom suddenly stopped without any apparent reason or warning, but when the assassin went for the door to the courtyard he became absolutely furious. And the man had dared to lecture him about acting like a professional. That was simply unacceptable.

"M64, be my guest," SubZero muttered. HK would probably be relieved if Arlene did, although it was too late for him tonight. "Venom's mine, though, if we come across him again." SubZero had more important things to do than go out of his way for revenge against Venom. He was much more interested in getting to whoever was in charge of this place.
