NIGHTSHIFT 43: RECREATIONAL FIELD

Aug 31, 2009 00:45

[ from here ]Instead of another hallway like he was expecting, Rolo was surprised to find a cool breeze flowing in as soon as he opened the door, gazing out into the darkness that blanketed what looked like to be a field of sorts. The beam of his flashlight didn't go very far, and all Rolo could tell was that this looked vaguely familiar - perhaps ( Read more... )

[from here]

The crisp air that reached Teresa as she left the building was refreshing. Even more important, the feeling of youma disappeared, as if the clean air had blown the creature's stench clean away. Taking a deep breath, she remembered why she'd rarely ever spent more time in the barracks or the Organization's main buildings more than absolutely necessary. She preferred the outdoors.

The wind blew, pulling her long wavy blonde hair before her as she looked around. It was just enough to obscure her vision in the darkness that she did not notice the human until just before he walked right into her chest. Cocking her head, she looked at the human - he had to be a human - with silver eyes, not caring one bit about him having had direct contact with her breasts.

"Some women would take offense to a greeting like that," she said to the human.

Funny, Rolo's very thought was about how he probably should have been more cautious about turning around. His carelessness caused him to run right smack into something, the sudden collision feeling like he just hit a wall or something.

"AHH!"

The suddenness of it caused Rolo to not just stumble back, but fall over completely, crashing down on the (thankfully) soft grass. What the hell?! When did a wall appear before him?!

Then the wall spoke, and Rolo looked up to find that he didn't run into a wall with cushions, but a tall, well-built woman. Probably out of gut instinct, the teen reached behind him to grab one of the pens he stuffed in his pocket. Of course, logic ran it's course and with his Geass out of commission, and ... Rolo realized this was a fight he wasn't going to win.

"... I'm sorry," He didn't want to instigate one either, mumbling an apology as he got back to his feet.

When the human's hand moved, Teresa's eyes narrowed as she wondered exactly how foolish this boy was to try and pull a weapon on her. Did he not see what she was? Out here the moonlight reflected quite brilliantly off her silver eyes. That alone should be enough even if he didn't notice the crude metal weapon longer than he was tall across her back.

Hmph. He stopped and got to his feet instead.

"You are lucky," Teresa replied. In more ways than one. "I am not a typical woman."

Now that he got a better look at this woman, Rolo could tell he made the right choice. She was armed (with something, but it was better than what he was currently equipped with), and she seemed very unamused. Maybe it was just him, but Rolo felt like she actually noticed when he moved his hand back. She certainly wasn't a typical woman, like she said. He also noticed her eyes, silver and unnerving. This was normally not someone Rolo would risk being around with.

But this was also not a normal situation for the teen and he knew he had to choose his words carefully with this person, because his only way of escaping should things go wrong currently was sealed off to him. In more ways than one.

"I'm... I'm lost, actually. Do you have any idea what's going on here?" Though it was a little late, Rolo tried to make himself look as non-threatening as possible, straightening himself up and keeping his hands where she could see them. Maybe she would prove to be more helpful than his roommate.

He was scared of her - just the way she liked it. A faint smile touched her lips as the boy tried to make himself look unassuming. This little human was interesting. Lucky boy.

Teresa relaxed her stance some, clearly not threatened by the boy, and crossed her arms. "You need to be more specific in your question, boy," she replied.

Thankfully, his little tactic worked (though, Rolo noted with some disgust, he probably was no threat to her as he was now), but his initial question yielded nothing from the woman. As usual. Was it custom here for people not to offer up any information or was Rolo just one of the unlucky ones who were thrown in here with no prior explanation?

"I have no idea where or what this place is, aside from it's name. Is there a purpose to us being here?" An easy question, Rolo hoped. He gathered enough from the intercom announcements that this was supposed to be some ... facility, but nothing concrete.

How ironic that she was being asked about this place, having only been here for one day.

"This appears to be a military center designed by humans for observation and testing under cover of a medical facility. This is why it is different during the day than it is at night," Teresa replied. "The exact purpose as to our presence is unknown." She gave a bit of a chuckle. "After all, why would someone really wish to bring the dead back to life?"

So Rolo's initial impressions were not off. At the very least, this woman seemed to agree with him. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary with her suggestion so Rolo nodded. On the other hand, that meant he learned absolutely nothing new.

Until she mentioned bringing the dead back to life.

"... The dead?" Suddenly, the circumstances behind Rolo's arrival here seemed to change. No, but that couldn't be right. The dead couldn't be revived. Not even Geass could fully thwart death. He did not die. That was impossible.

"What do you mean? You can't revive the dead."

"Apparently someone has figured out how," Teresa replied. "After all, here I stand."

She was about to tell the boy about the other formerly dead that have been brought back, but the pervasive sense of youma pushed through everything as two figures entered the field. Eyes narrowed, Teresa turned her head just enough to catch sight of the two men. Her lips curled up as she picked up the scent coming from them. Those two were youma or some equivalent in this place which really didn't matter to Teresa.

Shifting her stance so she was facing sideways in relation to the two demonic creatures in human skin, unconsciously putting herself between them and the human boy, Teresa kept her attention partially on them to see how long it would take for them to notice her. Even with her reduced abilities, she was confident she could kill them both, but she was curious as to how the youma may be affected in this place.

"So you have a name, boy?"

Was this woman implying that she was... dead? It sounded that way, but he still couldn't bring himself to believe it. No, it just ... it didn't work that way! If that was true, then it meant that... Rolo really did ( ... )

"I'm not trying to say it - I am saying it," Teresa replied, somewhat amused by the boy even with the demons nearby.

"And is that all there is to your name?" Humans tended to have longer names. She, herself, once had a longer name before she'd been sold to the Organization, but she couldn't remember it any more nor did she care to have any connection to those humans.

Unlike the woman before him, Rolo didn't find this amusing in the slightest. He unconsciously scratched at his chest, recalling the burning pain he felt just this morning, and how much it hurt when he overused his Geass to protect his brother... he didn't regret it, and he really did believe that he died when he first woke up here, but...

Was that why his Geass no longer worked? Did it disappear after his death? No, but he wasn't dead, and it wasn't gone, it just... didn't work. He sighed, abandoning that line of thought when the woman prompted him for a last name.

Rolo was a bit hesitant, but on the other hand, if he used the same pseudonym as his brother, then maybe she could tell him if she knew someone with the same name. It was a slight chance, so Rolo would take what he would get.

"Lamperouge. Rolo Lamperouge. Have you met anyone else with name?"

"No, I have not," Teresa replied.

She was well aware that Euphy's friend, Lelouch, had that same name, but that wasn't the question she was asked. Yes, she was being a bitch, but there was a problem; she wanted to know if this boy was a threat to Euphy.

"Are you expecting another like yourself in this facility?"

"I'm looking for my brother," Rolo clarified, but she already said she didn't recognize the name "Lamperouge", so he couldn't help but shrug. In that case, he supposed there was nothing else to talk about, and no more information that he cared to know. "It's fine, I'll just keep looking for him on my own."

There was nothing else Rolo really wanted to ask her... or, was there? His brow furrowed again as he tried to think of a way to phrase his question without making him sound like a moron, but in the end, he couldn't think of one and had to settle for being blunt.

"Are there really monsters in this place?"

Brother. Now that she thought about it, the boy did have that pathetically thin look that Lelouch had. Being aware of the relationship between Rolo and Lelouch did not make her any less suspicious of the boy. Her main concern was for Euphy. Just because the boy was family to Euphy's close friend did not mean her and Rolo were on as friendly terms. She was not about to forget that Rolo had gone for a weapon upon encountering her. A reflexive instinct, perhaps, but it was still something to keep in mind. She would watch this boy a little longer before deciding to reveal the information he clearly wanted.

When Rolo asked Teresa about monsters, her lips curled up. Would he be surprised to find out he was talking to one? It wasn't as if silver eyes were found in anyone other than half-youma hybrids like herself. There was a better example of monster than herself anyways ( ... )

He wasn't too surprised to be answered with a smile at first, scowling just the slightest when he misinterpreted the woman's expression. However, that scowl twisted into a look of shock when she proceeded to confirm that yes, there were "creatures" prowling the facility and more or less proving Christian right. His eyes widened a little slightly.

First the dead returning to life, and now monsters? Maybe he really did die and wound up in Hell.

Even stranger was when the woman pointed out the two that she had looked at earlier, implying that they were not the humans they appeared to be. Though, he found it hard to really care; those strangers hadn't even paid him or the woman any mind, seemingly absorbed in their own conversation.

But it was a free tip nonetheless, so Rolo tried to look like he was considering it as he looked at the two again.

"... I see. Then shouldn't we leave them?" He was anxious to move on. If she wanted to fight them, that was her business.
