"Caleb, where are you going?" she said.
"Uhh... I think I have a visitor. Name of, uh..." He'd read on a bulletin board that the visitors were brainwashed versions of people they knew, but he wasn't sure what name Max would have in this place. "Mike?"
"You don't ha-"
"No, wait. Robert?"
"Caleb, listen..."
"Andrew... no, Willaim!" Sam was on a roll. "Nick! Uh... David?"
"You don't have a visitor," said the nurse firmly. "Why don't you read quietly in the library, or try some arts and crafts?"
Sam thought. One on hand, arts and crafts supplies could be quite useful. On the other, libraries often had important information hidden away in the books nobody ever read, and he doubted he could take stuff with these nurses watching him like this.
He entered the library and flipped through some of the romance novels, but to his disappointment, no pieces of paper detailing the secrets and exact goals of this place floated out. War and Peace also yielded nothing.

"Oh, I don't know..." said Sam. He thought he'd seen some sort of declaration of love on the bulletin board, unless that was more code. "Besides, I'm not reading them. I'm looking for secret messages. I... don't suppose you've ever found any?"
It was worth a shot.

Sam punched his open palm to indicate what kinds of questions he wanted to ask.

What wouldn't get him very far? Violence? "Now hang on a second. Max and I used to solve cases by hitting stuff all the time." That hadn't happened for a while, but Sam still considered it a viable strategy. "And don't all the nurses go away at night?"
