Day 43: Cafeteria (Lunch)

Aug 17, 2009 15:34

Honey's tummy was growling loudly by the time he was finished talking with Tsubaki.  It'd been an eventful morning, but he was glad to see that his friends were safe.  The nurse led him to the line and he filled up his tray with as many sweet-imitations as he could.  Fruit, juice, pancakes, whipped cream, muffins, the works.  But when he got out of ( Read more... )

He...really needed to learn how to stay awake. After the morning spent with Mitsukuni, Hikaru and their friend Sen, Mori had been led off by the nurses and separated from his cousin. After that, his nurses said he'd found somewhere and slept apparently. While Mori appreciated a nap now and then, he really needed to stop napping during the day. Maybe it was because he was hungry? Because he was definitely hungry. No dinner last night and waiting until lunch today to eat was a bad idea, especially when his nurses kept shoving pain pills at him. He tried to refuse them, but they insisted that his collarbone and ribs had to be hurting him and forced the pills into his hand anyway.

Padding into the cafeteria to get away from the nurses, Mori spotted Mitsukuni immediately and started moving toward him when he felt a tug on the collar of his shirt. "Food, first, William." Apparently, he wasn't so good at dodging the nurses here as he thought. He followed her through the line, picking up a few more sweet things for Mitsukuni and a bit of egg and toast with fruit for himself, and then once given the okay, he headed over to where his cousin sat. Usa-chan was sitting in one seat, so Mori moved to the other side, setting his tray down next to his smaller cousin. THe others weren't here yet, but he was certain they'd show up soon enough.

Takashi was the first one to show up. Honey had seen him long before he set down his tray and sat at the table. He'd smiled to himself when the nurses had to tug him into the line to get his food first. It was a struggle not to feel like climbing up onto his cousin's shoulder just to greet him. The nurses didn't seem to like that sort of roughhousing. But he still sent the other boy a contented smile before taking another bite of his sticky pancakes.

The sugar was a godsend and Honey planned on enjoying every last bite. With how rarely it came around in this institution, he had to wolf it down in huge portions when they had it. Honey did not like being cranky, nor did he want to be if he could help it. Some times were harder than others. Right now though, with sweet cake-like food in his mouth and sitting next to his best friend, he was perfectly happy.

Someone else had come into the cafeteria and Mori straightened, watching him for a moment. He didn't seem like a threat though and once the man was seated, Mori went back to watching over his cousin. He could tell that Mitsukuni wanted to climb on him. In truth, Mori missed it a little. He'd gotten so used to his cousin's playful contact that he was starting to feel out of sorts without it. Reaching over with his good hand, Mori patted the boy on the head and then turned to his meal.

He could feel the nurses watching them and since he still had an arm in a sling, he knew they'd get all huffy if he tried to do anything else. He really didn't get why people thought he was so fragile though. Glancing down, Mori noted what was on Mitsukuni's tray and watched the rate at which he was eating. Soon enough, Mori would be putting the waffles he'd picked up on Mitsukuni's tray, but not yet. Arranging his egg on his toast, he was about to start eating when a thought struck him. "How was last shift?"

Kaoru had had a bit of a lazy morning. Things seemed...strangely peaceful. Despite the terrible things that happened at night, Kaoru was talking to his brother again. It felt like things were just...coming to a nice conclusion. Which was silly because they were trapped here. But he wasn't going to let go of the feeling that easily.

Having done his time with the nurse and a plate of food, he was released to the wider world and went straight for Honey and Mori, hugging his little friend from behind.

"I love you guys," he grinned. Nothing could ruin his mood. "Everything's good again."

"Peachy keen," Hikaru agreed, reaching to hug Kaoru from behind. Now it was a chain of hugs. He would have invited Mori to join, but it probably wouldn't have gone over very well. It was more Honey's thing anyway.

After their rather...strange morning yesterday, Hikaru felt like he could take on the world. They'd slept through a zombie invasion. So what? He and Kaoru weren't fighting any more. Plus, that kiss had been kind of, uh, educational.

"How's the food?"

Honey let out a giggle when Takashi patted his head, then turned thoughtfully back to his pancakes. He let the fork sit in his mouth for a moment before answering.

"I talked with Tsubaki-chan. She's okay too, so I'm glad. She told me a lot about how people use weapons in her world. It was kinda neat," he started. He would've given a few more details, but Hikaru and Kaoru showed up in their usual unison and seemed to be perfectly fine, as if nothing of this terrible place had affected them. Hikaru was in a good mood and Kaoru was... well, he hadn't started eating yet, but there was no false cheer in the hugs he gave. Though he might find himself a bit sticky in places from all the syrup on Honey's fingers and face.

"Kao-chan! Hika-chan! You made it!"

Honey looked up, all smiles. They must've worked things out, for which he could be nothing but glad. "The pancakes are really good! You should get some! Ah-! And if you can't finish, I promise to help out! I love them! Besides, Tama-chan hasn't come yet, so there's still plenty of time!"

Mori had seen Tsubaki posting earlier, but it was good to hear that Mitsukuni had been able to touch base with her. It seemed like he was getting along well with her, which was important. He and Mitsukuni spent so much time together that sometimes he worried about whether or not his cousin was making enough good connections. Not...that he should really be thinking about business and the future here of all places, but he couldn't help it. He nodded anyway as he listened to what his cousin had done, when he sensed someone coming up on them.

Two someones apparently. The twins were together again and they seemed to have resolved their differences. This was good. Mori had been worried that there might have been something really wrong for once between the two of them. But now they were all hugging each other, well, Mitsukuni. And likely getting a bit sticky. Mori set his egg and toast down and picked up a few napkins, catching one of Mitsukuni's hands to place the napkins in them. With the twins piled on top, it was a little hard to go cleaning him up right now.

And speaking of food. Mori turned back to his plate, picked up his waffles (topped with strawberries and cream, of course) and set them on Mitsukuni's platter. If he wanted more? Mori would go get them.

"Hmm, I've already eaten with Nurse Ratched over there. But I bet I could manage a bite," he grinned, sitting down and pulling his brother with him.

"We're just waiting on Milord, huh?" It would be nice to get some of the club back together. Still had two painful gaps in the ranks but... beggars apparently couldn't be choosers. Was this what it was like to be common? Unable to simply arrange to meet the people you wanted?

[I'm back! Wanna continue?]

Hikaru couldn't hide a snicker at the way Mori was dishing up the sweet treats for Honey. Some things never changed. Distantly, he wondered what would happen if Honey got another cavity. Maybe he'd go crazy and violent and they could turn him lose on some zombies.

The twins would pay good money to see that.

"Wonder what's keeping Milord," Hikaru said, frowning. "He's always yelling at us for coming to Club activities late. Double standard!"
