Spending all of brunch talking to a "Vulcan" and pretending he was just as much of a hardcore fanboy as Spock was one way to start a day

At least he'd been able to sleep in this morning, and better yet, eat when he wanted to instead of when the schedule said it was time to. After breakfast (because it was breakfast for him), Stahn jumped at the chance to go outside; he wasn't used to being stuck inside all the time, especially in rooms with no windows.
When he spotted the red-haired man, it didn't even register on him that the guy was giving off "leave me alone" vibes; if anything, Stahn had learned to ignore those. Some kids, especially new ones, in the orphanage often claimed they wanted to be left alone, but the opposite was usually the case. Rutee still sometimes claimed she wanted to be alone when she didn't (although other times she meant it, and he'd at least learned not to be too persistent with her...).
"Hey," he said, sitting down with him. "Been here long?"
"Huh... I just got here the day before the field trip. You, too?" Stahn asked sympathetically. "At least I know somebody here." Leon was around here somewhere, right? Maybe even avoiding him? He was pretty worried, considering the night before.
"It'd be a little easier if this place was more like my world--well, my town. Lienea's... kind of... backwater compared to most others, so even during the day this is taking a lot of getting used to."
"Not real?" Stahn echoed, puzzled. "It seems like it is... well, it's not what they say it is, but I don't think they're just making us imagine the place."
He wasn't sure what to think of why they were here, but they definitely weren't insane. At least, most of them weren't. Hearing that this was a training center was something to think about, but Stahn being Stahn, he had yet to actually reach any conclusions.
"Yeah... I guess it's a research lab? I hope they haven't planted anything into us." He shuddered a little; it was a scary thought. Who knew was this place could be doing to them? Seriously, anything could be going on... and who could even start to figure out how much they'd been blinded to?
Stahn just winced. "I hope not." This was one time he could only hope he was way, WAY off. He usually was, so that was kind of comforting... except even wild guesses from him had a chance of being right, they knew so little.
"No last name? That's unusual." It didn't cross his mind that it might be normal in some parts.
"Are you a soldier?" Stahn asked curiously. Leon had titles too... what were they again? All he could remember at the moment was "the Rose of Seinegald", and he was pretty sure he knew what would happen to him if he repeated that one.
It was still an effort not to chuckle.
"I'm not, just a swordsman." He paused. "Even though I don't have a sword right now..."
"I don't even know how anybody'd get swords here. Is there a forge, or something?" It was all Stahn could think of. If there was, people could obviously only sneak over to it at night, and he could guess that it took several nights of work for one sword. How many people would even know how to do that?
Maybe he should've asked Leon... well, Asch could explain, and anyway Leon had been a little busy explaining the more important things to mention how weapons were made here.
