It was too quiet.

As Scar shut the door of his room behind him, he couldn't shake the sense of foreboding. He was a mess; doubled over on the ground and blood staining his skin, clothing, drying into and tangling his blond hair. The mask that usually covered his face so well had slid off and his empty, hollow eyes were in plain view. The only thing to come out of his mouth was a shaky, almost inaudible, moan of pain ( ... )

The wooden pole in the closet held promise, yet it stayed firm regardless of how much pressure he placed on it. Stubborn he may be, but he wasn’t about to exert all his strength removing it from the wall--the knowledge of it and the screws keeping it in place was pushed aside for later use, if he found himself returning to this room. A more thorough search revealed a flashlight, a keyring and key (most likely belonging to this door, which struck him as strange), and a bundle of pens.

The assassin’s mind remained focused on the little key, turning the information over in his mind. They had left him not only a means to light the empty, seemingly unguarded hallways, kept the door unlocked, but also gave him a key to lock the door behind him if he wished to, despite having taken him against his will. This wasn’t the doing of the IPF, that was obvious enough. Could it have been the Post War Administration Bureau? Were they that willing to cause trouble that they would spark a war with the Assassin’s Guild? It would be costly and most ( ... )
