Nightshift 42: Bohr Street

Windows were dark on Bohr street, but doors worryingly open, and Phoenix's eyes kept darting to each new entrance they passed, dark rectangles like open graves. He tried to think of what was this way, but his mind was a spinning blank, bolting like a rabbit every time a new face turned to stare at them with those hollow, filmy eyes. " ( Read more... )

"I'm afraid not." Kakashi hadn't considered the possibility of being stranded in the town until it was far too late to group with the others, a mistake that he'd have to make sure not to repeat. Mentally, it went on the list right below finding himself being attacked by swarms of the undead with a serving tray as his best weapon. At least getting out of the restaurant afforded Kakashi enough time to better cover his left eye; it took only a few seconds to tie the secondary plaid cloth over his sharingan after he tucked the tray under his arm. But the onslaught paused for no man, and Kakashi was forced to kick away one of the shamblers even as he pulled the knot tight.

On the plus side, Shikamaru was doing better. Even as they fought, the chuunin was obviously observing their opponents. Kakashi came to many of the same conclusions, noting the way the things utterly failed to defend themselves. They seemed less than animals in that respect, as if driven by a single force so strongly that even the survival instinct was trumped.

Which made sense, considering they were all dead.

"Okay. Hopefully the others have figured that out too." Or at least found each other. But without being certain of either of those things, the trio's priorities were clear. Ducking a grab from yet another attacker, Kakashi punched up hard at it's head, noting that fatal strikes to the skull seemed to be the only thing that got the things to give up--and only because it seemed to actually kill him. "But just in case they haven't, we're going to look for them. Considering the situation, it's a safe bet that they're looking for weapons, and us."

Not thoroughly exploring the town: another of those things Kakashi deserved a kick for. Or a bite, if the undead creatures had their way. "Main Street seems like a good place to start. That stretch seemed to have the most shops in the smallest amount of area. We can fight our way back, and if we're lucky, we'll run into the others. Try to keep in a straight line. The narrower the path we have to make, the easier it'll be."
