Sangamon had eaten, caffeinated, didn't need any girly crap, and he'd already ascertained that the bookstore was useless for anything beyond the usual purpose -- namely, providing bored housewives with a rotating selection of paperbacks and cookbooks ( Read more... )

Harley was busy staring at a stuffed bear with a very tempting "Squeeze Me" written on its stomach when Yukari pulled her away in another direction. She followed along to the weird display of girlie knick knacks, staring at it in confusion at first. Just about anything in the store would have been better than that stuff. You couldn't even use it for anything. She got it when Yukari whispered her question and immediately played along with the 'ooo pretty' facade.

"Whatever we can grab," she said with a contained enthusiasm to her whisper. "They pat ya down before you get to the bus, so it's gotta be somethin' you can hide, too."

When she and Mr. J stole things, it was never a supremely subtle operation. In fact, they were always deliberately showy, grabbing as much attention as possible. Putting on a good show was part of it. That was what made it brilliant. Subtle operations were done late at night when everything was closed. She'd never tried to steal things in broad daylight with a bunch of eyes keeping watch on her every move. It was like a game: How much can you grab without anyone seeing?~

"They watch us too close, one of us might need to play diversion." That role was always a fun one. Risky but fun. It would, of course, be easier if they could just snatch things without being noticed. Them vs the Nurses/Clerk. This could be interesting.

She figured they would get searched before heading back; didn't want anyone bringing back anything dangerous, now did they? That eliminated a lot of their options for viable targets though. Things like the dolls and stuffed animals were right out. Little things like the bracelet she had made disappear into her fist as she went down to tie her shoes, however, were hidden easily enough. The purple plastic knickknack was no longer in her closed hand as she stood back up, though as soon as her hand dived back into the display, rapidly picking up and putting back a number of items before picking up a little blue doohickey, it was hard to tell if she had put the first one back or not. In fact, it was stuffed into the side of her shoe; she'd hide it somewhere better once they left the shop.

"Are you volunteering?" she asked Harley, continuing to purvey the wares as if nothing had happened. "But then only one of us can steal. Wouldn't it be more fun to see which of us can get the most back on the bus?" Flashing the girl a smile, Yukari put back the trinket she was examining and moved over to a shelf with marbles, tops and other small toys. Now, how to pull this off?
