Dayshift 42: Morning - Magus Park

Senna stepped off the bus to wind blowing through the clothes she was given. A sad face at one of the nurses allowed her a long red scarf as well, and once she had draped it around her neck and let it hang down her back, she had trotted off ( Read more... )

622 took the coupons he was given and stepped off the bus, immediately glad for the jacket he was wearing, but not needing to do it up quite yet. Even though he couldn't quite tell if he should anyway, with the confusing message on his shirt.

He found a place out of the way of all the other prisoners to watch for Armand, finishing the last of the food he'd gotten. He'd been so caught up in the argument with that kid on the bus, he hadn't finished his food. That said quite a lot. He really did hope that the kid would see sense, but... He probably wasn't the most convincing person. He didn't know how to do that sort of thing.

[for Armand and Chise, if you're joining us this shift!]

In the chaos of people disembarking, Armand felt himself lost, but he knew his friend was tall enough to show over most crowds. He tried to shy away from a nurse belatedly offering him a coat, but the air was too frigid. Armand accepted the nondescript gray wool coat and slipped it on.

Then he spotted his friend off to the side and waved. When he had TK-622's attention, he ran to him.

"Hello!" he said, trying to sound cheerful. There wasn't any good reason not be happy to see TK. Armand simply had a hard time shaking the seriousness of his bus conversation. "How was your ride?"

622 smiled slightly as he saw Armand, feeling a little relieved, although he couldn't tell quite why.

"Ended up sitting next to someone who'd heard of where I'm from through propaganda..." The rebels probably didn't exist wherever these things were being made if they were supposed to be fictional, but still... "Nice enough kid, anyway."

He caught the strained quality to the cheerfulness and opened his mouth to ask if everything was alright, then closed it again. He didn't want to ask any questions Armand really didn't want to answer.

"You're going to have to understand that not everyone is going to agree with you about politics in your home." Armand wasn't sure he agreed, but he knew he was never going to bring up the subject on his own. Nor did he speak of his own home.

"I wasn't expecting it to be so cold today."

"I know. I still try to change their minds, anyway." As best as he could, anyway.

"You can have my jacket too if you want." He wasn't too cold, and was slowly managing to forget about the shirt he was wearing.

He grinned at his friend and shook his head. "And people say that I am too earnest."

"No, I'm good. They gave me a coat." He searched in the pockets for the coupons. "I simply don't know what to do. We have an entire day--" He didn't say 'to ourselves' because they are watched, but he implied it. The coupons were the same. "I don't think we'll get hungry unless we forget." He held out his bag lunch to TK. "You can have the rest of this, if you want."

622 shrugged. "I might be, but you aren't."

"I'm not sure either. The only time I ever really did anything here ended in chasing... another propaganda believer. I ended up mostly changing their mind." But that weird kid wasn't here anymore. He tried not to wince when he remembered Cole yelling at him. He had been an idiot, but things had turned out alright anyway...

He brightened up at the offered food. "Thank you." He took it, looking inside to see what might be left. Food was just about the best gift he could think of.

The sack still contains everything but the muffin and the juice. "I thought you might be still hungry. You don't think I'm too earnest?" he asked, curious now why his friend would say that. "I think... many people don't know what to think of me. Or you, for that matter."

"My metabolism is faster than a normal human, even when I'm not working as hard as I usually do." Being here was actually... really easy, physically. He still got injured, but he only had to be on the lookout at night, rather than continuously on edge.

"You're not. I'm not very good at figuring out these sorts of things, but I don't know what to think about me, either."

At the second insistence, Armand nodded and smiled. "Thank you, and I never eat much anyway, so you're always welcome to anything I have left." He preferred keeping close to his friend, and there was no hurry while he ate.

622 ate almost alarmingly fast as usual, finishing the food in just a few minutes. It all tasted quite good, compared to what he had been used to back with the Empire. He hoped he wouldn't get too accustomed to this, though. He still wanted to return to where he belonged, and if he got used to this, then it wouldn't be anything special anymore.

He returned his attention to Armand once he was done, smiling slightly again. "Thank you."

Well, the conversation on the bus with Badou wasn't good or bad. Crashing into a random stranger and streaming tears were all part of her daily ritual. It was getting annoying, but then again, she was used to it.

It was a little chilly in the park, but the change in scenario was better than what happened at night. At least there wasn't any thick fogs or blood-stained grass. She was grateful for the large hoodie her nurse picked out for her, despite the 'Protect Your Nuts' slogan.

Observing the area a familiar figure caught her eye; it was the man that gave her his flashlight, Mr. Armand. He did mention that he was in charge of a club. Walking towards him it appeared that he was with another man, probably his friend.

"H-hello Mr. Armand," she greeted him, bowing afterwords. "Thank you for giving me your flashlight last night, it helped me a lot. Did things go well for you last night?"

Armand turned a cheerful smile on the young girl who approached them. "Oh, hello miss. I am glad it helped you. I think we did well without it. I am seldom alone at night."

He held out a hand to indicate TK with an almost airy wave. "This is my good friend, TK-622. He's a military man."

[Oh, I have more!]

622 watched as the girl approached, standing there in polite silence. So this was who Armand had given his glowrod to. He inclined his head slightly when introduced. "Pleased to meet you, Miss." He couldn't remember the last time he'd met someone who looked as awkward as this kid.

What kind of name is TK-622? Oh wait, he's in the military so that must be his code-name. Why does that sound so familiar? Thinking hard Chise recalled seeing the man's name somewhere. Her face lit up in realization, TK-622 was the sergeant that was willing to teach her close-combat.

"T-the meeting is mutual Sergeant TK-622," she replied stiffly, saluting the man. Even though she held a captain status it didn't mean that she was in a higher position than a sergeant in other worlds. Not all military ranks were the same. "I think it was on the bulletin board you mentioned close-combat practice. I...used to be a captain in the military before I got here, but I don't think the ranks system is the same from your world."

Then she turned to Armand. "Last night you mentioned that you ran a club, can you tell me more about it?"

"I'd be happy to do that. It's a courier system to deliver messages and packages. We haven't had any real work yet, except getting some supplies to the Clinic but most clubs do a little of that. People work in pairs, a bodyguard and a courier, but I'm hoping that as people learn more skills, they'll just be partners." He glanced between her and TK, a little wondering about her claim to be a captain in any military.

"I can... explain more if you need if TK wants to show you any moves." At least they were at a park, where it wouldn't be too odd to be moving around.
