Dayshift 22: Chapel

Claire woke up in her room just like before, with little idea of how she actually got there. This time, though, she noticed something different about the room. There was another young woman, a blond, sleeping in a bed across from her. Before questioning that, though, she made sure to hide the items she'd gotten that night in her closet, shutting ( Read more... )

Obi-Wan Kenobi knew better than to be surprised when we suddenly awoke in his room, with no recollection of what had happened beyond chasing the giant spider away from Qui-Gon. This was his fourth day at Landel's, and the disconcerting memory lapses were, unfortunately, starting to becoming routine.

He was, however, a little startled to find the layout of his cell had changed. Not only that, but the second bed in his room was occupied by another prisoner - someone the Jedi had seen in passing before, but had never spoken to. Before he could investigate further, a nurse came to take him away.

"Today's Sunday," she patiently explained to him as they stepped out into the hallway. "So, instead of eating right away, you'll get some quiet time set aside for things like prayer or meditation. Doesn't that sound nice, Ezra?"

It was probably one of the more pleasant things any of the staff had told him since his arrival. After the terrible events of last night, Obi-Wan needed the time to clear his mind and find his center. He didn't quite understand what was so special about this Sunday, but having the chance to meditate was definitely a nice change of pace.

He'd been given the choice of where to go, and he ultimately settled on the chapel. As nice as the sun room sounded, Obi-Wan remembered what happened the last time he'd tried meditating in there. He had a feeling he'd have better luck in a room that was actually supposed to be quiet.

When he arrived, Obi-Wan caught sight of Qui-Gon sitting among the rows of pews. He seemed to be quietly speaking with a couple of the other prisoners, and Obi-Wan didn't particularly feel like interrupting him. The Jedi watched the older man carefully for a moment - he seemed to be alert and not in too much pain, which was a good sign. Obi-Wan relaxed a little, clearly relieved Qui-Gon was all right. But, at the same time, a part of him couldn't help but feel a little unsettled by what had taken place last night - and it wasn't just the spider he was thinking of, either.

He was shaken out of his thoughts when the nurse quietly encouraged him to find a seat. After a brief moment, Obi-Wan decided to settle down in a pew that was somewhat near Qui-Gon - close enough for them to seek each other out if need be, but far enough away to where they could easily maintain their distance.

When he was satisfied with that, he closed his eyes and began to take soft, easy breaths.
