As if the sounds of a fight weren't odd enough in a mental institution, now there was some sort of a... What the hell is that? He couldn't really get a clear view of it from where he was.

Not sure he really wanted to know, but definitely sure he didn't want to attract its attention, he turned off his flashlight. The kid still had his- Might as well save the batteries. And maybe it's the heat from the flashlight that's making me so hot.

"So now what?" he asked, looking back the way they came.

Leonard turned back toward the rest of the hall and looked in the direction the kid was pointing- Okay, we're headed toward and around the whatever the hell that is down there. Why the hell is it so hot in here? He wiped the sweat forming on his brow, irritated by the heat. This place just seems to get stranger and stranger- what institute leaves the doors unlocked at night? You'd think the nurses would be all over us. And the lights being off is really a pain. And where the hell is that heat coming from?

He kept his flashlight off as he continued to follow the kid's directions. Fast. Quiet. That I can do. He removed his institute-issued slippers and tucked them into the waistband of his pants. Much easier to do without these on. He crammed his journal and pen into his pocket, keeping his flashlight in hand.

Lenny started padding down the hallway at a quick pace, hoping to reach the other side as quickly as possible. Don't stop, just keep going. You can ask the kid-- He thought he saw something move in the dark as he ( ... )
