Night 41: M-B Block Hallway

May 30, 2009 17:19

[From here]After a few minutes, von Karma arrived at the main patient block hallway. Although it was nearly identical to that of the one in which he was formerly assigned, it felt different to him. Certainly, the trip from his room to the hallway was somewhat longer than it had been for him previously ( Read more... )

This was going to get confusing. He could already tell. Where was Rise when you needed her to give you the layout of the place? Yousuke could imagine her popping into his head at any moment, telling him to watch out for that shadow lurking around the corner...

Hitsugaya ignored the other doors and halls. His mind was focused on finding Hinamori. He had a lot of things he wanted to say to her.

Claude slowed down a little as he made his way down the hall. He knew where Guy's room was located, and he debated on just heading down there himself. But they hadn't arranged it ahead of time, so it was possible he'd be intruding if he did just pop by. Claude didn't want to make a nuisance of himself if he could help it.

In the end, he decided to lean against the wall, giving his injured leg a bit more rest. There wasn't anyone out here, so they wouldn't have any problems seeing each other, right?

He felt bad that he'd been unable to contact Luke before the end of the day, which meant the meat cleaver was still sitting in his room. Claude was sure Guy would understand, but it was kind of strange he hadn't heard from the redhead all day. There was tomorrow, he supposed, but...

Well, they'd worry about that after tonight. Claude knew he needed to stay focused so they could get healed and then work on getting to the basement.

Guy had expected that they were all going to meet up outside the patient blocks, but as he moved down the hall toward the exit he spotted a very familiar face waiting for him. Or at least, that was what he assumed Claude was doing. The younger man would have no other reason to just be standing there.

He headed over as quickly as he could considering his injury, sending his friend an appreciative smile once he reached him. "Nice of you to wait for me," he greeted.

It was true that there wasn't much that was going well for Guy right now, what with the earlier shift he'd spent with Van and the worrying lack of Luke, but all of that could be dealt with the next day. During the night, he would rather be all business. They didn't have the time to spare on anything else.

He was sure Dias felt the same way, which meant they shouldn't keep him and his healer waiting, either. "Ready to go?" he prompted Claude.

Claude rubbed the back of his neck with his free hand and gave a small smile. "I just thought it'd be better if we went together, you know?" There was no reason for them not to since their rooms were relatively close. Not to mention they were both injured, so there was definitely something to be said for safety in numbers.

He adjusted the grip on his sword as he pushed off against the wall. "Sure thing," he replied. Claude wasn't too sure what this healer friend of Dias was like, though she was kind enough to offer them her help. He had to admit that he was a little curious about her. After all, it wasn't often Dias made friends on his own.

With another glance toward Guy, Claude led the way out into the next hallway.

The hallway was virtually deserted. Was he running fast or something? Huh. Slowing down was probably a good idea; he didn't want to catch ZEX too early, and then he could keep a better eye on the equipment. Glass was breakable, after all, and considering the likelihood of monster attacks in this joint...

The box under his arm dug uncomfortably into his hip as he moved. The sooner he could be rid of this slag, the better.

The hallways were well-trodden, and more people were starting to venture out. Yuffie's footsteps remained quiet, for all her casual pace. Out of habit, she skirted away from any flashlight beams, kept a wary half-eye on her surroundings. Just in case. Yukari had said, back on the board, that she'd be the one responsible if anything happened, right? These particular hallways were said to be the safest in the institute, but it was kind of hard to turn instinct off. Wasn't like there was a flippy-switch, a big red button, or a lever.

Yukari, on the other hand, kept her strolling rather casual and nonchalant no matter how many flashlight beams were around them, like it was just another walk down just another hallway down the same route she had taken a thousand times before ... Okay, not literally, but she had been down this way enough times to the point where Yukari might have felt fine coming without the flashlight. Not that she would, but the point was still there. Somewhere along the way she had finally taken off the lollipop's wrapper and let it sit in her mouth during their trip, watching Yuffie as she did.

"Which way?" Yukari asked, briefly slowing her pace down the hallway.

There was a split-second pause as Yuffie got her bearings, before she hopped forward to skip the first hallway, turned right and began cartwheeling down the second one. "This way! It should be right at the end. And then we've gotta swing back 'round to seventy… M77, yeah." An aerial cartwheel, a somersault, and a handspring finished the impromptu routine. She bounced neatly to a stop, balancing on one leg and twirling around to face Yukari… whereupon she began to walk backwards, arms folded casually behind her head.

... Well.

Yukari may have not been expecting a lot of things to happen, but she was definitely not expecting a spur of the moment gymnastics routine out of nowhere to show up on her list of things she wasn't expecting. In the middle of it, she froze in place, her face twisted in a way that clearly conveyed her massive levels of disbelief and awe; yeah, it was pretty crazy, but she couldn't deny it was impressive, too.

"Do ... you do that often?" she asked flatly once it was done, and Yukari was finally able to bring herself to start walking again.
