There was no sign of anyone else here. Maybe she was early - she had left her room immediately, after all. The rest of the team should be here soon.
Soma took up position on the other side of the hallway so she faced the F-blocks and waited.
A few strides had brought Taura to the mouth of the larger hallway and the door to the women's bathroom. She wasn't quite sure why they were meeting here, but here she was. Perhaps it was just convenience, if Himura and Kamiya were both women's names -- she wasn't exactly sure.
Another woman was standing sentry over the ends of the hallway. Taura transferred her flashlight to her left hand and walked over next to her, mirroring her position.
She was hesitant to break the silence, though, and merely nodded a greeting.

Soma nodded back, tilting her head upward to meet the other woman's gaze. "Excuse me, but are you Miss Sumeragi or Miss Meche?"

Taura glanced around, but no-one and nothing else had entered the area. "Guess we're both the first ones here." She tucked her flashlight under her arm and started trying to detangle her hair with her fingers. It was frizzing badly -- dirtside air was always so much more humid on any but the most arid planets.

Good timing, it looked like! "I'm Sumeragi," Hokuto spoke up, nodding to the girl who had asked. "Call me Hokuto."
The person she'd spoken to was obviously a soldier of some type; she couldn't help but think of Signum. I hope we see her again... Still, she smiled at both of them, friendly as ever.

At this point she had completely run out of things to talk about, so it was just as well that one of her teammates had decided to show up. She turned, nodding and offering a slight, hesitant smile in return.
"I'm Soma Peries," she repeated, "but Soma is fine. Good evening, Hokuto."

Hokuto, like most of the people she'd spoken to, appeared to be about Soma's age. And, she couldn't help noticing, she was very...conspicuously dressed. There were quite a few people here who seemed to have clothing other than what the institute provided; she wondered briefly where they had gotten it, and if it were at all possible to get her uniform back. It wouldn't give her any significant advantage, it was true, but it was the principle of the thing.
"It's nice to meet you too. I only arrived here two nights ago, so I didn't start working with them until last night. Have you?"

"So where are you from? And when?" She laughed a little. "I'm from Tokyo, Japan, in 1992."

The standard conversation starters here seemed to be where and when someone was from, and Soma had no problems with that. At least they were questions that were easily answered. "I was living in Russia before I arrived here - the year was 2309. There seem to be a lot of people from the late twentieth century here."

She tilted her head a little; Hokuto hadn't struck her as the fighting type, but first impressions could be wrong. "What did you fight back home?"

She kept calling her life ordinary, but in a lot of ways... it kind of hadn't been.

"What sort of a tournament was it?" Reserved as she normally was, her natural curiosity was beginning to kick in. Besides, the idea of a tournament naturally appealed to her.

"So you're used to fighting from a cockpit? Yikes--do you know hand-to-hand, too, or you're mostly used to weapons like blasters?"
Reply
"All of the fighting I've seen so far has been from a cockpit. I was taught basic hand-to-hand combat techniques in training, but I didn't have the chance to put it into actual practice back home." A pity, really, considering piloting was out of the question here. "It's too bad I don't have my mobile suit with me."
