Traffic would increase soon, she knew. But no smell of blood or people screaming yet.
Yomi paused in the hallway she’d been caught in the night before, where her time had been forcibly taken from her. No burnt flesh, no wounded Shinsengumi, no dying spectres… So far nothing but dark, quiet expanses of hallway.
The peace couldn’t last forever. A person didn’t need to have been in residence as long as she had to learn that.
She swung her flashlight around, more curiously than cautiously, internally marking the nurse’s station behind her, and the two stairwells nearby. Although apparently recommended, Yomi hadn’t brought her radio with her--the possibility of whoever was broadcasting transmissions conveniently spilling something she cared to know about her surrounding that she couldn’t glean from the board during daytime was slim. Still, the effective would probably suit their love for drama at times like these.

If Scar wanted to venture further than this point, he needed a meat shield. Or at least someone that could serve as life bait for any possible threats he could encounter in this dreadful place.
Feline eyes observed the main hallway. This area usually held the highest amount of traffic, which meant the higher probability of finding what he was looking for.
Ah, a lone patient. She did not appear to be a Special Counseling patient, but that didn't mean she was no threat. Or even remotely reliable. Unfortunately, the King was in no situation to be picky so he saw no other option but to approach the female human. It wouldn't do to startle potential Life Bait, however, so he simply switched on his light-stick to betray his presence.
"Some say it to be unwise to travel on your own."

Although the sesshouseki was a warm, inquisitive pulse in her veins, Yomi didn't turn until she was addressed, and even then, her gaze first strayed over the bodies crawling out of the woodwork as she replied calmly, "It's good advice." Finally, she flicked her eyes over the owner of the smooth voice in a quick appraisal. She didn't turn her flashlight in his direction to get a better look, content enough with what she could make out of the shadowed figure.
Getting approached by an aging man in these circumstances was no doubt worth more concern than usual, but if Yomi was at all wary, there wasn't the slightest trace of it in her mien.
"But only if traveling alone is more dangerous than the alternative," she continued. "Don't you think so?"
Reply
"Of course," Scar answered with a shrug. "It certainly wouldn't be the first time patients go for each others' throats despite the circumstances." There were plenty of hints to such things all over the bulletin board, and it took no genius to figure out that some apparently didn't get along very well.
Then again, the King himself wasn't innocent in that regard either if one would count events prior to arrival here. But now was hardly the time to think of such things, though if he had any say about it, the death of his brother would never be thought about again. Yet, some back home still stubbornly continued bringing it up.

Haha, a safe answer, no less than what she could’ve expected. Of course, Yomi thought, and gave a slight half-smile in response. With the sesshouseki around, there would be no last time, at that, but so far it seemed that little fact was something only she knew. If others had recognized her for what she was, they weren’t talking. Not exorcists. Not defenders of the tenuous peace between the ‘patients’. Or too busy to mind ( ... )

Scar wasn't quite certain what to make of this female. She reacted differently than most other patients he had randomly ran into during the nights.
"Why thank you for your concern," he said politely, taking note of her intention to leave. It seemed this female wasn't an incredibly easy target, and Scar debated whether to follow her or find another person. "I suppose I should return the favor and tell you to be careful as well."

"But you seem like the helpful sort," countered Yomi with a jovial turn to her tone. Oh, yes, a kind man stopping to pass along wisdom to a young woman all alone in a frightening environment. There was no way he was one of the ones to be cautious of. Impossible that such a person could have hidden motivations or a desire to take advantage of her status...
In reality, if he wanted to stay in Yomi's company for whatever reason--whether or not that included trying to harm or hinder her--he would be taking his chances. She'd already warned him, teasingly. Twice.
She looked over her shoulder, boots clicking against the floor. "I don't have to worry about you... right?" An innocent inquiry with a touch of curiosity.

Helpful, hmm? Not quite the word some would associate with someone like Scar, but he could be whenever he wanted it. Whenever it would be useful to act 'helpful', he could. It was a rather easy way to gain trust, after all. Whether it was genuine, well, that was a completely different subject.
But, that still left this female. His feline-like eyes continued to glance at the human, as if observing her, trying to read her. There was one major flaw in the habit of picking up random patients from hallways; not everyone was reliable. Some might abandon him, or worse; some might even attack him. Thus far he had been lucky, but there was no telling when his luck would run out and he'd be driven into a corner. It was the risk of venturing out at night, no matter what action he took after leaving the relative safety of his room. No matter how careful Scar tried to be, he knew the risks.

But enough of that.
He was right, even if he didn’t know it. Yomi would argue their night time friends were a greater concern. And the influence behind spectres attacking her was a sight more interesting than the motivations behind a person in the happy-face get-up doing the same. This one didn’t even register too strangely on her radar, in the face of the unique collection Dr. Landel had put together. His eyes were quite unnatural, but she bet he’d bleed the same as any human.
“I’m Yomi,” she answered with ease. There was her name, and as for Yomi’s reasons for being on a stroll: “I haven’t seen much of this place at night. I was thinking of finding out more about my other self.”

"I assume you mean the self the nurses refer to." Scar had been curious about their supposed real lives, and though he had heard of 'files', his inability to read maps made it rather difficult to find their location. But this was a nice opportunity to look into this matter, especially if someone would lead the way.
"An interesting subject, indeed. From what I've heard those lives seem to match the lives we know quite well, though I am uncertain of it's extend. Would you care for company on this little trip?"
And for the sake of being proper; "I am called Scar."

A alternate life. A sick girl with a problem telling fact from fiction that all of the staff pitied her for. Fujiwara… Yoshiko. If what this Scar had heard was right, and her life as Yomi overlapped with her false identity as Yoshiko, then would it include the same sordid details? Betrayal? Hate? Murder? Revenge? Corpses piled high, cowardly fiancés?
Whiny, ignorant little girls? With her blood on them, her burden on them.
Kagura.
The subdued smile died on her face for a moment, but then crept back, fueled by the sesshouseki’s encouraging pulse. She was in the middle of a conversation with a new friend. How sweet, offering to come along. “Sure, why not? That would work out well; neither of us would be alone.” And Yomi could find some benefit in having a living, breathing person follow along with her, she was sure. The drawbacks were few. “It’s nice to meet you.”

He hadn't moved since speaking up, so the feline finally caught up with the female patient. "Indeed," Scar said. Two birds with one stone indeed. "Well, shall we be on our way?"

That hadn’t taken too much time at all.
