Yuuhi woke, feeling achy all over. He wanted to roll over and sleep for a few more hours, but the nurse had other ideas. At least his legs had been wrapped, so they felt a little stiff when he walked, but it wasn't intolerable.

He followed her to the cafeteria and picked up a few things for his tray before sitting down. Ururu was already talking with one of the other patients, which was something of a relief. She seemed to be alright. No sign yet of Kurogane though. Had they managed to undo that spell?

[Mind new daughter?]

She was just about to walk back into the institute when she suddenly found herself back in her room. Well, at least she managed to accomplish one of her goals last night. Her right shoulder was still covered in bandages, but the rest were gone.

Upon entering the cafeteria her nurse once again placed a tray into her hands, encouraging Chise to make more friends. Looking around, she walked over to the closest person.

"Um...I'm sorry but, is it alright if I sit here?"

It wasn't long before someone approached him. She looked familiar, hadn't she been talking with Kurogane just the other day? The one that he'd made cry, wasn't it? Kuro-rin really wasn't cut out to be a father at all it seemed. That or he just needed more practice.

"Go ahead," he said with a smile, picking at his breakfast, but sure to drink all of his juice. "I'm Fai, what's your name?"

[not at all :D]

"It's Chise, and thank you for letting me sit here," she replied, glad that Fai was okay sitting with her. He seemed liked a friendly type of person. Cutting up her pancakes into small shapes(more western food again), she faintly remembered Kurogane sitting with a blond man at lunch yesterday. There was a chance that Kurogane was familiar with Fai.

"Can I ask you something?" she continued, "Do you happen to be friends with a mean and scary looking man named Kurogane?"

"Chise, it's nice to meet you," he nodded. She seemed shy, but sweet and he didn't mind her company at all.

"Kuro-pii? Haha, well, I don't know if you would call us friends, but we've been together for a while," for once telling the truth and thoroughly amused by how easily it could be misunderstood. Ah well. Kurogane did need to learn to have a sense of humor.

"You must be the girl he was talking with the other day! I'm so sorry he made you cry! I know he looks really mean and scary, but he's a big softie on the inside."

"Kuro-pii? Is that his nickname?" Chise was confused, Fai said that he and Kurogane weren't friends, but were together for some time. "And he didn't tell me if he had friends here, so...would that make you an affiliate or a partner?"

When he started apologizing she shook her head. "Oh, you don't have to apologize for him for making me cry. I cry easily and a lot, so it's nothing that you should worry about." Then she giggled, "It's true that he's nice on the inside, even though he has a mean face, just like my boyfriend."

"Mm, well, one of them. I like teasing Kuro-rin, so I think of lots of them," he answered honestly. Two in a row, something of a record for him. Not that they were things that really mattered. It was easy to tell the truth about trivial things.

"I'm not sure what you'd call it. We've done a lot of traveling together, that sort of thing. I don't think he'd call any of us friends, even if he had to. That's just how he is." Yuuhi gave a shrug, not appearing to be bothered by the fact.

"Eheh, just don't let him know you know about that," he laughed, wagging a finger. "He wants everyone to think he's just as mean and scary as he looks."

Chise was awed by the fact Fai had created many nicknames for Kurogane. Shuji had only one nickname and stuck with it. "But, wouldn't he be extremely annoyed about it and then punish you for teasing?" Kurogane's occupation remained a mystery to her.

"So in a loose sense, you're like teammates in a platoon from a military. Even though he doesn't see you as a friend, he does worry about you from time to time, right? Because that's what friends do, the way I see it." How mean of Kurogane to deny being friends with Fai, he should at least consider the nice man as a companion.

She continued to giggle, remembering Kurogane's reaction yesterday. "His face still scars me, a little bit, but I can tell that he cares about people close to him. Also, it's funny when his face goes all red."

"Oh yes, but that's half the fun," Yuuhi nodded, smile widening slightly. "And you're only punished if you get caught. I've learned to be very quick!"

He glanced over to see that Kurogane had arrived and was, in fact, back to his usual towering height. He looked back to Chise, "Mm, well I don't think Kuro-wan is really the type to be worried, but he takes good care of our other companions." The thought of Kuro actually worrying about him was a strange one. Was that what he'd meant? When he said Fai was someone important?

He cast the thought aside before it had time to take root. "Isn't it?" he laughed. "I'm impressed! Chise managed to make Kuro-tan's face go red! Hyuuu..."

Chise was never the one to be quick on her feet (more like tripping over them) and mentally note never to call Kurogane any of the nicknames Fai created.

"Maybe his definition of 'friends' is different from the way other people think." During the war, most people tended to treat others as strangers or simple companions. Getting too attached or buddy-buddy with a fellow comrade led them to their deaths most of the time.

When Fai mentioned that he was impressed by her 'accomplishment', her cheeks burned up. "N-Not on purpose! At the time I accidentally mentioned sex and then Kuro-tan -- I mean, Kurogane blew up." It must have been the medicine that made her thoughts float around. Speaking of medicine, she needed to take hers.

"It was kinda cute at the time, but extremely embarrassing for him a--what does 'hyuuu' mean?" She never heard anybody make a sound like that.

"Eheh, well maybe you're right," he nodded, leaving it at that. Trying to understand the way Kurogane thought was usually more trouble than it was worth.

"Hooooouuuu," he cooed in understanding, finally realizing why Kurogane had seemed so flustered. He'd done the same thing on the bulletin board when Ken and Ururu had asked about sex. It was kind of funny to think that the tough man could be felled so easily. Yuuhi smiled when Chise almost used one of the nicknames. She seemed like a nice girl. "Kuro-pin is shy, who would've guessed!"

He made a mental note to bring the subject up more often, if only to fluster the ninja. "Ah... well I really can't whistle, so hyuuuu... that's what it sounds like right? Making the sound effects for it is just as fun."

"I suppose so, with the way he acts all tough and mean." Everything made sense now, guys who were scary looking and acted all silent and tough are actually shy. Shuji, Tetsu, Takaya, and Kurogane were perfect examples.

"Me neither, my best friend tried to teach me a long time ago but I couldn't do it." She made a small 'o' with her mouth and blew as hard as she could. Nothing but the sound of air came out.

Yuuhi decided to leave the talk of Kurogane aside now that Chise seemed to understand. Whistling though, was another matter entirely.

"Uh oh, you too? I don't feel so bad now; I'd thought I was the only one!"

"I suppose that makes us part of a small boat that can't whistle." A really, really, tiny boat. Maybe a dingy or a raft.

Okay, now came the part where everything screws up. "Um...Fai, I want to tell you that I may act a little strange after I take these," she warned, showing him her pack of daily pills. "If I happen to say anything that offends you, I'm sorry. Please ignore them till I recover. I probably won't be able to think clearly."

She then ingested the pills and waited for the side-effects to kick in. Once it did, her eyes drooped and she started to sway side-to-side.

[ooc: explanation for the pills is in her profile]
