He had not been over here much, except for that notable night when he had not been acting of his own will. The memory still smarted, a reminder of why he should take his mission here seriously, why he had to defeat Landel and leave this place. With

The sound that ended up approaching Sasuke was distinctly not human. He tensed up as it came closer -- between Konohagakure with its surrounding forests and sometimes peculiar wildlife and Sound with Orochimaru's penchant for 'creativity' had prepared him to some extent for the creatures in the Institute.

In this case, the rapid sequence of clicking obviously meant something at least partially armoured, probably an insect of some point.

A fast and large insect -- before Sasuke quite expected it there was a light touch against his leg that made him jump back on instinct, clearing a few feet of space. The thing moved loudly enough for Sasuke to know where it was, but he couldn't be sure of how big it was or exactly what shape it was without checking.

The last time he'd fought something alone he'd learned that lesson. With that in mind, Sasuke flickered briefly into the Sharingan, glancing down the hall -- and caught sight of not the roach's animal chakra but another gleam of movement, this one more familiar. Intensely familiar.

Itachi.

He was there, about to turn. And just like that Sasuke had thoroughly forgotten about meeting Aidou and Wolfram, because his real goal was directly in front of him and there was nothing between him and Itachi but some sort of insect.

With a rapid movement Sasuke leapt forward and slashed downwards with his sword, testing the strength of its armour. He let the Sharingan fade as he moved -- he knew where Itachi was headed, now, and he'd need to save as much of his chakra as possible.

The sword hit the roach squarely between its wings, its point driving down hard into its belly. It flipped onto its back once the blade was removed, its legs waving futilely before it let out a shriek and died.

The creature died quickly enough, Sasuke not even interested in finding out exactly what it was before taking off down the hallway in the direction he'd spotted Itachi's chakra. Moving forward and turning off -- he'd been in that area before, and he knew this part of the Institute well enough to be confident that he could make good speed.
