Armand let out the breath he'd been holding when he saw TK. He ran the last few feet and dropped everything--pillowcase, sword and light--to hug the bigger man. "I was worried," he said.
TK was relieved when Armand came into view, but frankly, the hug startled him. He awkwardly gave Armand a hug in return, trying to be comforting but not quite sure how to go about it. "I'm sorry I didn't meet up with you last night. That won't happen again."
"You're well though?" Armand asked. He disentangled himself, suddenly quite embarrassed, and dropped to his knees to look through the pillowcase. "We found something you might be able to use." He didn't even think to show off his own sword.
TK nodded. "Yes, I'm 100%." He hadn't meant to sleep through the whole night last time. He certainly didn't think he was that tired. He wasn't totally exhausted yet, after all.
Armand grinned up at him. "Well, that should mean you're rested tonight, yes?" He pulled out the metal bat and brandished it proudly. "For you! And there's some padding that might work like armor... if it fits." TK was a big man, which was something Armand tended to forget until he was confronted yet again by the tall, dusky-skinned pile of muscle. Just the perfect friend for someone small and thin like Armand.
"Yes." He smiled just slightly, looking a little more cheerful when he saw the bat, taking it to feel the weight. "This will definitely help. Thank you. What kind of padding?" any defense was good defense, as long as it didn't take away too much range of movement or speed.
Armand sat back on the ground, still to one side of the hall so he wouldn't get stepped on the dark. He lay his sword across his lap, probably the most he'd do to bring it to TK's attention. Then he pulled out some of the body padding he'd found. "I think it was meant to protect during rough games. I have several small leather balls, too."
"I don't know either, but I thought you'd be the best judge." Armand bowed his head. "You're always throwing yourself between me and the monsters. You need more than those thin clothes to protect your skin."
TK nodded. "I guess I can try it out. I've been missing my armor, after all." And all the kit that came with it, but he really shouldn't get so hung up on something he couldn't have.
Armand handed out the padding pieces he could find in the bag, then got back to his feet. He leaned against the wall, still looking up at his friend. "I'll let you decide what parts could help. I didn't mind finding them. It was much easier getting there than to the kitchens."
He brushed off his knees. "Do you suppose Monsieur Trevelyan is coming tonight?"
As he made his way out into the hallway, Steve was surprised to hear so many people standing around. There was some light coming in from the outside but, there was a lot more coming from the two men holding flash lights. One of them was standing, but the other was sitting.
Thinking that there might be an injury and because he couldn't quite see with the light not going on the sitting man well enough for him to make out details as his eyes adjusted to the light of the flash light, Steve made his way over. "Are you two okay?" They were looking over football padding, and he noted the seated man had a sword.
Sitting around in the middle of the hall at this time of night really didn't seem like a very smart thing to do around this place.
TK stood up, keeping his glowrod pointed more towards the floor so he could see but not blind the other man. "We're totally fine, sir. Just looking over some new kit."
Armand moved away from the wall now, blushing because it had been him causing the concern. "I'm fine. Were we blocking the hallway? I... didn't mean to do that. My apologies, monsieur." He, too, kept his light aimed as low as possible. Another big man, and not Alec. He bit his lip worriedly, wondering if this was going to be any trouble.
The larger man's response and his body language clearly marked him as military now that Steve could see. However, the man that had been seated was another matter entirely, his demeanor was a lot more refined and polite. They were a bit of an odd pair, but Steve was glad to see people working together in a place like this.
"You weren't in the way. I just wanted to make sure no one was injured over here," Steve said. He found the presence of the sword a bit odd. How did they get something like that?
