[[coming from

He would wake with a start, quietly walk to the bathroom and splash his face with cool water, then walk quietly back to bed. He'd taken to keeping a book by his bedside for the - common - nights when sleep didn't come again afterwards

Adelheid had never thought he'd ever be spending this much time breaking down doors. If he had been thinking properly, he would have stepped aside and let Eric, with his regenerative powers, take a stab at it. As it was... well, at least Adelheid was strong and getting used to bruises forming along his shoulder.
A few good slams into it and the door yielded to Adelheid's blows, then he cautiously walked into the room, spear at the ready and trying his best to illuminate as much of the hallway as possible. There had to be monsters there somewhere, right? But where?
Only when he had turned the corner into the hallway proper, and saw that he truly was too late again, did he finally make a sound- a hiss of indrawn breath, his fingers clenching around his spear. Adel knew he shouldn't have wasted so much time! But... there was one bright spot. Only one person seemed to be out; perhaps it wouldn't be too late for the others. Perhaps.
"Miles Edgeworth, wasn't it?" What else was he supposed to say? What else could ( ... )

Fox remained close to the wall, carefully looking around the corner to the people standing around. It looked like someone else was mounting a rescue mission as well, but he couldn't be sure just from looking.
After debating for a moment, he stepped out away from his hiding spot and walked forward. Fox vaguely recalled Big Boss talking about how it was sometimes nice to sneak around without a shirt on, that it felt a lot better. Perhaps that was so, but Fox couldn't say he was enjoying running around with his bandages and scars on display.
"Is this where they've been experimenting on patients?" Right to business, as always. His blue eyes flickered to the doors for a moment before he returned his attention to the blond young man who, judging from his body language, considered himself to be in charge.

Next, he addressed Fox. "They're experimenting on others too? I...was under the impression I was the only one." It wasn't a surprise, but how many others were being subjected to it - they didn't need that many people attempting a channeling, did they?
He peered into the shadows, trying to make out the faces of the others in the hallway despite his still blurry vision.

Otacon followed him to the four men gathered in the hallway, glad to be as far as possible from the fight back at the stairs. The blond one Fox was addressing looked like the youngest, another two seemed like his companions, and the last appeared rather... dazed? They were all wearing the grey patient uniforms-a good sign, maybe.
"We're looking for someone," said Otacon, hearing the dazed man speak. (Was he Miles Edgeworth, from what he'd heard when they were waiting around the corner?) "He's another Disciplinary Trial patient. Is this it?"

It was the sound of gears and motors running, metal scraping against the floor as it landed heavily....and it was coming from down the hall.
whurr-thunk
It was also getting closer...

It was difficult, fighting over the desire to keep a distance. But Edgeworth was his best friend...as much as Phoenix felt that Edgeworth didn't feel the same way. Phoenix wondered if the ghost of a friendship was good enough to forgive the fact that he had left again. All of that could be dealt with later, however. Edgeworth needed him, or at least, Phoenix wanted to pretend that he did ( ... )

He heard someone behind him asking for guidance, and he turned to them. Hmm, more new people. He was honestly starting to realize how few he'd met in relation to how many there were. "You're in the right place," he informed him, and nodded. "This is where the...'experimentation' rooms are." Torture was a better word, but he didn't want to worry the pair unnecessarily.
A moment later, he heard a sound of something mechanical...something moving, coming toward them. He called softly to his friend. "Adelheid..." and turned to face the direction that the noise was coming from. He scanned the darkness ahead, figuring that, unless someone turned their flashlight that way, he'd be one of the first to spot it...whatever it was.

But then he heard that sound of gears spinning and metal screeching against the stone floor, and he was instantly alert. It sounded mechanical, fully so, instead of the soft sound of Edward's automail... and if that was true, then they were woefully outmatched. If Adel had his full ki power, he wouldn't have hesitated or been worried in the least; he could have protected all of them if it had come to that. But now that he didn't?
He spoke in a sharp, crisp tone; one that would brook no questions on the matter. "Nick; take Mr. Edgeworth and get out of here, now. The two of you, you might want to leave quickly as well ( ... )

For such a short journey, it had been particularly nerve-wracking. Adelheid's directions weren't so simple when it came to actually following them, factoring in other patients and stopping at every sound in case something jumped out at them and delayed them too much.
The landing above the atirway had been the worst. That creepy woman's voice. And Ed had wanted to rush in so badly. He'd recognised a couple of the people there and he hated leaving them alone to fend for themselves, but he had promised to help Adel and the people being hurt couldn't run to save themselves. So he'd gritted his teeth and slipped past, hoping that neither Rein nor Tamaki decided to jump in and get themselves hurt ( ... )

"No. I won't leave till we rescue my friend. Otacon, stay out of the way, hide if you can. I have a better chance of defending myself if I don't have to worry about you too."
Gray Fox flexed his arms, and stretched slightly. There was blood soaking through the bandages on his chest and shoulders, but he ignored those injuries for now. He would have plenty of time to feel pain in the morning, he was sure. Fox glanced at the man with the spear and the pale-skinned, dark-haired man standing next to him, and now the short blond who joined him.
"You guys obviously know this place better than I do. I'll take on whatever is making those noises. Even if I can't beat it, I can still buy some time for everyone else, so you guys can rescue the other patients."

Tamaki almost felt numb to it. He gripped his sword and swallowed hard, determined to do what he'd set out to do. He couldn't help everyone. It was impossible. And.... he just kept his eyes on Ed, following the shorter teen and trying to block out everything else. He just stuck with Ed.
"Is that noise... is it one of those robots?" he asked, sword held tightly in his hand.

"Robot?" Rein knew, of course, how deadly a high-class war machine could be, but somehow she didn't see this place employing the kind of weapon she was used to. Earth stories of hapless clanking automatons came to mind. And the boy could just be confused...
Even so, whatever was coming sounded heavy. That thought alone resonated strongly enough to pierce the assumption she maintained unknowingly that even weakened she was still a force here, to put her truly on edge.

A second later, the realization of what was actually happening broke through clear as day, and he let go. It was hard to see it in the darkness, but if you looked closely at him, you could see a faint blush.
He shook it off and nodded to Adel. He knew perfectly well that in his current state - still weak and shaky from what had happened, without a weapon or anything, whatever was coming after them would more than likely kill him.
"He's correct, Wright. We can't do anything here."

"I'm good at hiding," he told Fox in a wry tone, already moving to the back of the group, away from the unseen machine. "But don't do anything rash. You're injured, Fox, and you don't have any weapons either."

Logically, he knew nothing about where he was going in this place, and if he tried to navigate on his own...he was almost certain that he would get lost. And the hall was narrow, even more so with the amount of people there. The best alternative was to hide, and Phoenix thought quickly as to where was best.
"Take care of yourselves, Adel. Eric." Phoenix spoke in their general direction, his expression warm with concern. He then moved backwards down the hall, rounding the corner towards the doorway. He then settled down against the wall to the right of the door, hopefully out of sight of whatever was coming down the hallway.

He turned to Wright after a long moment, speaking softly, so as not to attract that...thing's attention. "You know how hard it is for me to say this...but. I owe you, and your friends, a debt of gratitude. You're not hurt or anything, are you?"
There were other questions he had to ask, but that was the most important for now.
