Nightshift 39: Stairwell by Waiting Room/Lobby 2

[from here]When they passed the Sun Room, there was a whole lot less of a crowd. Guess nobody was interested in heading down this way yet. Though that just meant if there was something nearby, it’d be coming for the nearest easy targets: him and Leon ( Read more... )

Leon had been poorly armed for dealing with a flying opponent, which hopefully wouldn't be a factor inside the building. Of course, if they ran into anything like that two-headed red monster, Leon would be reccomending retreat. Some things just weren't worth fighting.

A bit annoyed already that the man kept checking on him, Leon gave him a scowl the next time he looked back. "I'm covering the rear. You take care of what's in front of us." That was much of the point of travelling with another person, after all.

It was interesting, how the boy could act so… single-minded. Resolute. Not unnecessary, just interesting ( ... )

Was that the sound of footsteps following him? Endrance looked around, but didn't immediately see anyone. Stop that..., he told himself firmly, as he opened the door to the stairwell. He took a moment to sweep the area with his flashlight - good. Nothing there but other patients, which was fine.

He nodded after that, and began proceeding upwards, ducking slightly under the door frame. While his PC's body was only a few inches taller than he was normally, the door frame had been meant for someone just a bit shorter than he was. That...was annoying.

B knew that there were lots of things that even the most average of minds could subconsciously interpret as warning signs, in spite of being unable to place their reason. Case in point: The soft sound created by walking, especially with effort being put forth to avoid it, would usually have been too quiet to be heard at all in most circumstances. B thought he saw the man with the blue hair taking notice anyway. Perhaps he'd notice the door to the stairwell staying open a little longer than it should have too, which wasn't really a problem since he had already accepted he would be found out before he even chose this particular patient to follow, but... there it was ( ... )

I'm hearing things...I have to be. I'm the only one here, so...it has to be my footsteps echoing. Endrance nodded, as if to reassure himself, then quickly climbed the remaining stairs. He opened the door to the second floor, stepping through quickly.

Upon entering the stairwell, Momo slowed down and drew her sword. The second floor was much more dangerous than the first, overall, and she didn't know of any place she'd consider safe other than the chapel.

Even then, that place wasn't really safe like the patient rooms were.

Rangiku paused just inside the door to the stairwell, peering up into the darkness and listening intently for a few moments. It was always the place where she expected an ambush to happen, even if she'd never had any problems. Even if nothing was there though, it made sense to be careful, although she might actually welcome a fight at the moment.

If he remembered correctly, there were several rooms down the nearest hall that had locked doors. He and Jack had explored it on one of the first nights here and he was curious to see if any of them would open. It seemed there were far more doors on the second floor that the doctor hadn't meant for them to get into.

"Think there's a few more down this way," he told Rangiku, starting down the first hallway.

Kurt scampered up the stairs, eyes flicking around for anything lurking in the dark. He didn't see anything, but he realized a second too late that he hadn't been walking up the stairs on two legs--he'd just gone on all fours.

"It's euh... clear, Mr. Stark!" Kurt ducked into the hallway.
