Nightshift 39: Main Hallway, 1-Center

He paused at hearing a noise in the hallway. Akihiko whipped his head around, searching for the source. "You're paranoid," he told himself quietly, when he didn't see it.

He shrugged again, noting the Sun Room door was partially open. He pushed the door open and stepped inside.

Sparring -- now there was an idea! It'd been awhile since Claude had sparred with someone. Too bad he didn't have a little more free time on his hands, otherwise he might have organized something like that boxing club he'd seen on the bulletin. Except for swordsmen, of course. But as it was now, he was mostly interested in doing all they could to try to get themselves free. Still, maybe it was something to keep in mind for the future.

He resisted the urge to snort at Dias' comment. "I actually found the techniques I picked up during my travels to be pretty damn useful." No matter what Dias said, Claude was certain the battles he'd fought so far would have gone by so much faster if he'd been able to summon the energy to take a flying leap and drive his blade into the enemy from above, send jagged rocks from the ground to tear at them from beneath their feet, or even heal some of his injuries.

Not only that, but he liked to think that fight with Sync would have had a different outcome if he'd been at his full capacity. But there wasn't any use stewing about that now, was there?

Claude hadn't considered Earth's lack of fonons as one of the factors that could hinder Guy, but now that his friend mentioned it, it definitely made sense. "Well, Dias and I don't really draw on any external sources for things like that, except for maybe using weapons that've been enhanced by heraldry," he explained. "Even if we had your fonons around here, I doubt most of us would be physically capable of using them."

He paused, looking thoughtful. "It's too bad we can't try teaching you other techniques that don't use fonons while we're stuck here, but I guess it's something to remember for when we finally get everything sorted out." Claude gave a half smile. "I'd say we could organize a giant sparring session out in the rec field, but that would probably attract a horde of monsters in no time."

By now they'd reached the doors to the sun room. Thankfully, the entrance hadn't been hacked to pieces, nor were there sounds of a battle up ahead. Still, better safe than sorry, and after a quick glance toward his companions, he carefully made his way inside.
