Nightshift 39; M35 (Clinic Post)

Mar 07, 2009 09:53

Once the doors unlocked and night began, Tamaki hoped that everyone came to the clinic tonight. He wanted to talk about what had been discussed at lunch. He knew Raine agreed with the idea, that they needed mobile units, and Kratos as well. And while they were currently under-staffed ( Read more... )

Soubi burst into the room, looking incredibly worried until he caught sight of his Sacrifice. He let out a long sigh and closed his eyes, a small smile on his lips.

Ritsuka hadn't run off without him.

"I'm here," he smiled.

Sheena silently slipped into the Clinic, her breath barely indicating that she'd been sprinting. Good, Soubi was already there. Thanks to the tall man's positioning, the ninja's view of a particularly annoying blonde was blocked. Oh, she knew someone was there, but she didn't take the time to figure out who considering what all was on her mind.

Those bastards! Elena was already hurt. The extent of cruelty never ceased to amaze Sheena.

"So am I," Sheena said to Ritsuka, putting a hand on Soubi's arm so he knew she was there. Ninja were sneaky when they wanted to be and she didn't want to accidentally startle her friend by suddenly appearing by him. Though Soubi jumping three feet in the air kind of amused her.

"Raine and Reinforce should be here soon. I'd have been quicker but they took Elena tonight, so I had to find Rude and let him know," she added on.

Soubi heard the voice and felt the hand, but his first thought wasn't 'HOLY SHIT NINJAS!' it was 'do I really look so sad?'. The touch on the arm, that was usually a tender thing, from what he'd seen and, after Demyx's music...well... did he really always look so miserable?

Ans so, when he looked to Sheena, there was a scowl on his face, although it was just supposed to be more of a curious pout.

The place was filling now. And Demyx was outside. Soubi was going to have to try and stay behind with Ritsuka for a moment.

And who were these people Sheena spoke of?

And...

"Sheena. You look surprisingly nice," he said, almost smiling again. At least he'd stopped looking like a miserable sod.

[Jumping in from above]

Yukari's sleepy attention had been caught by the voice, but it wasn't until she heard the name that the youkai shot to full attention. Sheena? Here? What sort of coinci- ah, of course. M35 was where she had stalked the ninja to the night before, along with Raine, who from the sounds of it was on the way. And here was Soubi, the one from breakfast... yes, if this many of her friends were involved with the whole rescue and clinic thing, it'd make sense she'd be here again. What a crazy random happenstance.

Not that Yukari would play it as anything but completely premeditated harassment.

Peeking around Soubi to flash a large, clearly unwholesome grin at Sheena, the youkai waggled a set of gloved fingers at her victim.

"Hello! I was wondering when you'd show up," she said cheerfully.

Soubi did look a little panicked, but Sheena had been expecting it. With what had happened to him in the hall they were all going to, if he wasn't she'd be worried. She wasn't expecting Soubi to compliment he, though. It dawned on her, as the kind words left his mouth, that this was the first time he'd seen her in her yayoi. She returned his smile with a grateful one. "Thanks. I like having my ninja robed back. It's so much more comfortable," she replied. It also helped that this particular color complimented her well.

She was starting to turn toward the newcomers when she heard a very familiar voice murmur something to someone else in the room. Oh no. No. I'm imagining it. She can't be here. Not tonight. She wasn't able to completely convince herself, so she looked over toward the direction and was greeted with blonde hair, purple dress and that... that... that... damn grin.

Oh, hell no.Sheena's eye twitched a moment, and then she did the only sensible thing a mouse did when it found itself in the sights of a giant ( ... )

Well...that had been weird. Ritsuka managed to slide out of bed and settle his muss of tousled hair when suddenly Yukari went over to Sheena and Sheena bolted from the room. And what the hell was up with that touching thing? Shaking his head, Ritsuka tried to clear it of the usual annoyance he felt upon awakening. Wonderful. Upon seeing Yukari, Sheena took off. What next ( ... )

"Ara? What ever could be the matter?" mused Yukari aloud, hiding her mischievous grin before anyone else saw it. She put a hand to her cheek, tilting her head in (fake) confusion. "Was it something I said?"

She hadn't expected the girl to just bolt like that. Whatever. That just made it easier for Yukari to play nice in front of the others. She wondered if Soubi knew otherwise; hopefully Sheena had kept her mouth shut about the previous night the way she had urged the youkai to.

"Ah, I'm going to go see what's wrong and perhaps accompany her?" Yukari suggested hesitantly, before adding, "It's dangerous to go out alone."

She only glanced briefly at the other two, then to the door, then back at them once again, as if seeking approval, but quickly left the room before any could be given - or denied.

With any look, it just seemed like a concerned acquaintance going after a distressed friend...

[To here, if that's okay?]

Oh, of course. Sheena's friend. Soubi had been far more interesting in Ritsuka to notice the girl. Now that he had... well...it should be interesting.

Ritsuka approached Soubi but there was nothing. No smile. No greeting. No touch. The strangers were, as always, more important. Soubi hid the disappointment behind and a smile and crouched down when the other two had left.

"If you're tired, there are going to be plenty of people up there. We can go to my room and you can rest. Demyx is outside, he'll play you some music?" he said, gently.

Oh, even better. There was something about the way Yukari left that said she knew Sheena and that Sheena knew her, but judging from the way Sheena reacted, Ritsuka guessed they didn't actually like each other. Or rather, that Sheena didn't like Yukari. The last thing Ritsuka needed was infighting among the rescue teams, so he just hoped Sheena would keep a level head for once and focus on the fact that people needed them, not her distaste for a fellow patient ( ... )

Soubi's expression changed, as though he was about to object, but he looked away. Ritsuka was too young to understand that maybe some people didn't want a welcoming party once they got out of that room. The boy's intentions were good, and the people needed medical attention. But Soubi doubted any were left in a state they could die in. Unless they went looking for Monsters.

For Soubi... it had been humiliating, being seen like that. Admittedly he was glad Ritsuka had come, just because it showed he cared. But he'd have been just as happy to remain alone in the room.

Did people really want a group of strangers rushing to them?

If it was Ritsuka in that room....yes, Soubi would go to rescue him but... he wasn't going to win this argument, so he decided not to argue.

Soubi stood up, and remembered what he was holding. He'd wanted to do this alone, but.... it would be a good distraction right now. He held both hands out, balled into fists, one around the batteries and the other around the memory card.

"Pick a hand."

Ritsuka was batting a full .300 in the absolute fail department tonight. When Soubi looked away, the boy felt his heart ache and he dropped his gaze to the floor. Had he been wrong in mentioning the torture? Probably. Maybe it was unfair of him to expect Soubi to come with him after the horror he had been put through. But having left him once, Ritsuka couldn't do it again. The strain it put on their relationship had been unbearable.

"Soubi, I--" The man stood up and Ritsuka clamped back on his words, shoving them as far away as possible. He couldn't talk about those things here - not with everyone around. Stupid, Ritsuka. Real stupid.

But Soubi put his hands out, balled into fists and Ritsuka didn't know what to do. Was it a game? Apparently. Looking up at the Fighter in confusion for a moment, he looked down at his hands and then tentatively reached out. Was this how it was played? He'd never done this before, but it seemed familiar somehow. He touched Soubi's left hand and then looked up at him again.

Ritsuka, always so painfully cute. Had he really never played this before or was he just surprised? Either way, it was adorable. And maybe it was going to fix things, at least temporarily.

Soubi smiled and turned his hand over, opening it up to reveal the batteries.

"For your camera," he explained.

Soubi turned his hand over and Ritsuka raised an eyebrow, confused as to what this was all about. The confusion quickly gave way to surprise and then to a genuine smile as he reached out to take the batteries. Soubi hadn't forgotten! He had gone out and found batteries for Ritsuka, for one of the most important things Ritsuka had here - his camera. He'd spent quiet periods during dinner looking over the photos he'd already taken here, remembering the times when he'd taken each shot ( ... )

No hug, but the smile Soubi had been hoping for. A little more confident now, he leaned over the camera and saw himself upside down. Even better.

Oh. Memory cards.

"Mmm, how are you doing for memory?" he asked, offhandedly. "Oh... did you want to see what was in the other hand?"

"Um, okay, I guess." Was this really the time to be talking about this? Ritsuka was just happy that they had something like normalcy coming back to them. His camera grounded him, making him forget the horrible things that were probably going on right overhead. It wasn't like him to just ignore things, but... "I've been keeping the number of memories I make to a minimum, just to make sure."

Looking up again, Ritsuka frowned slightly. Something was in his other hand? Was that normal? He had a feeling that one hand was supposed to be empty, but he couldn't remember. Maybe he had played the game, a long time ago, before things had gone wrong. "I thought there wasn't supposed to be anything?"

"Ah, well, I like spoiling you," he said, looking at Ritsuka's hair. He wanted to stroke it, but if Ritsuka wasn't touching him, he wasn't touching Ritsuka.

Well, maybe a little. He took Ritsuka's hand the placed the memory card in it, without showing what it was, and let go.
