Nightshift 39: M11-M20 Hallway

Mar 05, 2009 16:52

Nightshift at last. The Gambler left Not-Noah 2.0 without another word, pulling his hood over his head and making his way into the hallway. Tonight was going to be an interesting one, to say the least. Were it not for Grell and his idea of a date, Luxord might have been sleeping in as Landel was (and truly, he did not blame him. Even Nightshift was ( Read more... )

The corridors were quiet so early in the night, which meant that Kenren managed to get to Homura's room without any incident or delay. He knocked quietly and then leaned against the wall next to the door. "It's Kenren," he called out.

Apparently he'd been fairly quick, but not quick enough. There was already someone waiting at the door when he arrived. The man looked familiar, but it was dark without his light, so it was hard to say for sure. Should he interrupt? Or just leave the things with this one?

No, he'd best make sure Homura received it. He'd rather not have any complications. Yuuhi put on a smile as he approached and hoped he looked harmless enough to the other guy. Just because some of the ones in costume at night were dangerous, didn't mean he was.

"Hello," he waved, box in his other hand. "Is Homura in?"

No reply yet. Maybe he'd fallen asleep or something. It wasn't as though any of them had been getting a huge amount of sleep since they'd arrived. He wouldn't have been surprised, although Homura was usually more disciplined than that. It was a little odd anyway.

He smiled at the other man who arrived, giving him a small wave in response. Cute looking, not someone that Kenren knew personally at least, although he'd seen him around. And waiting for Homura too. Huh. "I'm assuming so," he replied with a shrug. "I'm waiting for him too. I'm Kenren."

Well, at least Homura's associate was nowhere near as intimidating. Yuuhi's smile brightened and he moved a bit closer to wait for the door to open.

"I'm Fai," he said simply, offering a gloved hand for Kenren to shake. "Nice to meet you."

Fai hm? Well, it was nice to meet someone who Homura had left such explicit instructions about. He seemed pretty nice in Kenren's opinion, but it was too early to tell really. He took the other man's hand, holding it in a firm grip for a moment before letting go. "Nice to meet you too," he said genially. "Do you often work with History Club?"

Kenren seemed friendly, and knowing Yuuhi's false name didn't appear to have made any difference in the way he was treated. The question he asked was somewhat troublesome, but he was intent on keeping conversation light, even if that meant slipping in some lies here and there.

"Oh, not really. I just thought I'd try it out. Ah- and well, our group picked up a couple things last night so I wanted to drop it off and make sure Homura got it ok."

Kenren continued smiling, never faltering or making any indication that he knew otherwise. "There's a lot of groups to choose from now it seems," Kenren replied with a shrug. Lots of groups all splitting the patients into factions. That couldn't end well, but at the same time, he wasn't so willing to give up their own goals.

"Well, Homura should be here..." he continued, glancing over at the door and knocking again. He didn't usually take so long. Maybe he'd fallen asleep? They all needed it, Kenren was certain.

"There really are a lot," he agreed, though made no mention of any preference. He was alright not being in a club, at least, not one that had any huge goals or plans.

Yuuhi shifted his weight, considering the box for a moment. Kenren did seem like a pretty trustable guy and wasn't he pretty good friends with Homura? He knew he'd seen the name a few places at least.

He glanced at the door and then back to the man in front of him, "hnn... would it be too much to ask you to pass this on to him? I don't want to keep the others waiting." Not that he'd made any plans, but Kenren didn't need to know that.

Well that was a little unexpected, but not something that the god minded. "Sure, I don't mind," he agreed with a nod. "No sense keeping you waiting since you probably have stuff to do." Even if it was just going back to a room and having a nap. Better things to be doing than waiting around in a corridor all night.

He handed off the box to Kenren, giving the man a thanks and a smile before he started back down the hall toward the exit. It would get there alright, wouldn't it? And there was no rule that said he had to give it directly to Homura. Kenren was a lot less intimidating anyway.

Hands now empty, Yuuhi felt his way along the wall and returned the way he'd come.

It wasn't until he woke that Homura realized he must have been more tired than he had previously thought. He couldn't remember anything beyond sitting down at his desk after dinner, and with Shito absent, it was clear the night had already begun. He let out a small laugh as he realized what must have happened, that he'd fallen asleep with no intention or desire to. What a reminder that he was still indeed half-human.

Homura moved to the door, unsurprised to see Kenren already waiting when he opened it. He offered an apologetic smile as he motioned for the elder to come inside, noticing that the man's hands seem to be full. "You don't need to wait outside, Kenren. Unless you're afraid you'll walk in on something you'd rather not see."

Ah-hah! He did look like he'd been asleep, Kenren had to admit. "Hey," he said, smiling when Homura opened the door and then he moved to step inside, going to deposit the things that Fai had given him onto the bed. "I didn't want to wake you if you were asleep," he said with a shrug. "I think we could all use some sometimes." He looked over at the stuff he'd just put down. "Met someone. Fai. He brought this for you."

For a moment, Homura was surprised that Kenren realized the truth so easily, and it showed on his face. But it passed quickly, Homura laughing off the shock and the faint feeling of embarrassment that came along with it. "And what would you have done had I slept all night? Stood out there waiting?" Somehow Homura doubted it, but far be it from him to pass an opportunity to tease Kenren by ( ... )

Kenren shrugged, moving to sit down on the bed while Homura changed, not even turning away to protect Homura's modesty. It wasn't as though Kenren hadn't already seen everything after all. "I might have poked my head in to check if it had been much longer," he admitted. Night ending while you were in the middle of something was one thing, but waiting out in the hallway all night was a little much, even for him. But he would have left a note or something, if Homura was still sleeping, and then he would have gone and done things on his own, no matter how foolish that could be.

Well, that explained a few things and Kenren grimaced in response. "He did seem kind of eager to get away before you came to the door," he replied. "Although he had no problem talking to me. Apparently I'm just not intimidating," he added with a soft laugh.

"And then left me to sleep away a night?" There was humor in Homura's voice, but the truth was that he wouldn't prefer the result. Though he may have needed the rest, the demi-god was used to pushing himself. Even now, moving to pull his shirt over his head was a chore, the ache along his ribs reminding him that he still hadn't healed--nor did he have a healer to speed up the process. He could only imagine the assorted colors on his skin, though there hadn't been any fighting on his part the night before. "If it happens again, you should wake me. I'll even let you choose the method, should I let down my guard so much ( ... )

"Mmmm, perhaps," Kenren agreed lightly, stifling a wince at the sight of the bruises which coloured Homura's skin. Even this place's healing speed couldn't fix everything in a day or two and those had to be painful. He might have left Homura to sleep, or he might have found Okita and told him to wake Homura up. That could be entertaining. He grinned rakishly at the command though, eyes running obviously over Homura's body. "Are you sure you want to promise that?" he asked with a laugh. "You don't know what you're getting into." He could be rather creative when he chose to be after all. Especially in situations like that ( ... )
