Dark. Creepy. Still empty.

A whole bunch of absolutes with no borders; even if Yukari couldn't actually perceive these factors as she would naturally, her mind still registered them. Nothing easily manipulable ( Read more... )

During the wait, several people had passed by Anise. For a moment, she thought she heard Luke's voice as one group passed through, but decided she had to be mistaken. Whoever it was came from the wrong direction, anyway. If he sounded like Luke, it was probably that Haseo guy. She hadn't seen him in a while, but maybe he was still around.

After a few more minutes of unfamiliar faces, the girl finally caught sight of the redhead, together with someone she'd never seen before. Eager to get moving, Anise took a few bouncy steps forward to meet him. But instead of a cheerful greeting, she gave him an exaggerated pout. "Boooo. It's rude to make a lady wait!" she scolded Luke. She hadn't really waited that long, but it had been so long since she last had a chance to tease Luke that she couldn't resist guilt-tripping him a little.

A split second later, the frown vanished, replaced completely by Anise's usual bright smile. "So you found someone to go with, huh? Good!" The girl gave the stranger an appraising look, trying for a moment to decide whether he would be useful in a fight or not. He looked pretty young, and wasn't that big for a guy, but whoever he was, he was better than nobody.

"I'm Anise!" she greeted the stranger cheerfully. She was sure he heard Luke say her name a moment earlier, but it was always polite to introduce oneself. Good first impressions went a long way. "Nice to meet you!"

Luke's answer was a little evasive. Not all of his acquaintances could be friends then, even though Luke 'cared' about them all. An interesting fact. He eyed the girl that Luke indicated, she was surprisingly young looking. He wondered if she was any more perceptive or intelligent than Luke, but it was a passing thought as he offered her a neutral smile in response to her greeting.

"The pleasure is mine, Anise. I'm Mukuro," another foreign sounding name. Then again, that made sense as Luke was from a world other than this one. Mukuro took a half step backwards, looking down the hallway distractedly. They knew each other and might want to reacquaint.

"I said I was sorry, didn't I?" Luke made a face while Anise scolded him, but, as usual, brushed it off without much extra thought. He was used to her teasing, in a way it almost welcome. Heh, never thought he'd be glad to hear Anise harassing him.

While Anise and Mukuro exchanged greetings, Luke pulled open the side door to what had to be Ion's hall and inspected it, but didn't see anything dangerous. So far the coast had been completely clear. He would have to ask Anise how many monsters were really around here. Back home they would have been attacked a dozen times by now.

"He wants to go with me for weapons too," he offered, regarding Mukuro. "So we'll go there together after checking on Ion." He redirected his words to Mukuro, "Anise is the one that told me where to find the metal."

Mukuro seemed decent enough at a glance. Anise knew it was impossible to guess a person's nature from a first impression, but at least Luke hadn't picked a total weirdo to take weapon-hunting.

Anise nodded when Luke explained his plans. "Okay. Let's get moving, then." She may have sounded impatient, but it was hard for Anise to stand still whenever Ion was concerned. Even if the Fon Master probably still hadn't woken up, she felt like she was keeping him waiting. Motioning for the others to follow, she turned and started down the hallway.
