Nightshift 39: M41-M50 Hallway

Mar 05, 2009 19:02

Dinner had been refreshingly quiet after the roar of the music room- apparently Matsuda was sleeping this one out- but even with room to reflect, Depth Charge still found himself at a loss. For one thing, he hadn’t made any plans. For another, he’d dropped his slagging flashlight and bat last night. Three minor issues that, while not exactly ( Read more... )

Artemis continued to hold Haku in the silence that followed each announcement, trying very hard not to break his jaw when he heard Landel's snoring. At least have the decency to act evil--even if it required a cup of coffee.

He turned his attentions back to Haku, gently stroking his cheek. "Badou will be here soon."

Haku blinked at the sound of snores. Really? Snoring? How stupid.

He smiled up at Artemis and moved to pull back slightly. "Company," he teased. "And me without anything to wear."

Artemis laughed lightly, nuzzling Haku's cheek. "You look beautiful, he'll be impressed no matter what."

...more due to the lighter than Haku's appearance, most likely.

"Thank you, but you're biased, I think." He pressed a kiss to Artemis's cheek and sat up a bit straighter, combing his fingers through his hair, planning on pulling it back into a braid.

If he was going to be meeting a stranger (and possibly trading with him), he wanted to at least pretend like he was steady.

"It doesn't matter if I'm biased," Artemis said, brushing Haku's hands away and carefully dividing his hair into three parts. "Because my opinion is always correct. Anyone who thinks otherwise just hasn't seen it from my angle yet."

Haku shifted on the bed to give Artemis better access to his hair and smiled. "Ah, right. I'm sorry. I keep forgetting that." He settled his hands into his lap.

"Have you spoken to your group yet?" He knew the names of the people currently in charge of Artemis's club, but he didn't know if they'd spoken yet.

"About what?" he started braiding Haku's hair slowly, making sure to get all of the moves correct while keeping it as neat as possible.

"What will happen now that there is a new leader."

"Ah, that..." Artemis paused for a moment. "Hinamori-san asked that I become an adviser to the club--strategically. I accepted. Apparently she, along with Rangiku Matsumoto-san are taking leadership of the club with me and Ichimaru Gin-san as strategists."

He resumed braiding. "I also warned her that I may want to form a tactical team of my own, so I am not bound to normal club duties."

"That sounds a lot better than what you had before," Haku pointed out. "You'll be able to put your skills to good use." He thought for a moment, closing his eyes as Artemis continued to braid his hair.

"I met Gin-san today."

"Yes, I think so as well," Artemis agreed with a small smile. "I'm looking forward to it, actually. I even talked to her about giving a certain know-it-all a mission for tonight. I feel as though I'm finally able to use the information I've gathered on everyone in the building."

The boy blinked. "What did you think?"

"I'm happy for you." Haku smiled, honestly glad that Artemis had found a nice place for him.

"Gin-san is ... very intelligent. Polite. Well-spoken with a heavy accent. And hiding a great deal from the public eye." He shrugged one shoulder. "Then again, who isn't?"

Artemis blanched a little. Ah, one of those types. Much like himself, probably. There wasn't much Artemis would hide at home, but here he had to lay everything on the table before someone used it against him. But only those who had a great deal of influence could afford such tactics. However Artemis most feared those who were polite and had something to hide.

"True," he said with a small sigh, holding the end of Haku's braid. "It will be good to know this, though I don't intend on challenging someone I'm working with. Do you have a tie for this?" he asked, pulling the end of the braid into Haku's line of sight.

Haku reached up and took the end of his braid and moved over to get the hair tie from his desk. "I hope you don't plan on butting heads with your allies," he said.

That was something.... Zabuza-san did. His fingers tightened on his hair, but he refrained from pulling the braid.

Artemis frowned slightly at the sudden clutching of his hair, and he followed Haku to his desk. He quietly wrapped his arms around Haku's stomach from behind.

"Of course not. It's counterproductive to the end," Artemis said. "Should you be up and about? I could have easily fetched it for you."

Haku leaned back slightly against Artemis and smiled. "Probably not," he admitted. Things were still a bit unsteady. "But I won't get anywhere by laying in bed all night."
