Brainiac 5 made his way slowly to his room, barely paying attention to the nurse leading the way or whatever she may have said to him. Today had been particularly eventful for him; he'd been given a lot to think about by both House and, as much as he hated to admit it, Schuldig, and he'd been threatened again by Grell. The supposed 'death god' had threatened to find him again tonight, but considering the size of the Institute and that Grell didn't know the location of his room, he calculated a relatively small chance of them encountering each other. Nevertheless, he might need to look into obtaining some sort of weapon, just on the chance that the psychotic patient succeeded in locating him ( ... )

The calming sound of pen on paper etching out lines of perfectly neat text was broken by the door opening and a nurse addressing him.

"Michael? Your new roommate is here."

Oh, he'd forgotten that his previous roommate - whose name he had never learned - had apparently been released. He should make note of that particular fact and investigate it later when he was less... distracted by other things.

Such as the new patient being pushed politely but firmly into the room and introduced to him as 'Tyler'. Brainiac 5 took a moment to look the newcomer over and, not really noticing anything remarkable, turned back to his journal to finish a line of Interlac before finally closing the book. Then he turned around and directed his full attention at the other boy.

"I'm assuming Tyler isn't your real name," he stated. "Just as Michael isn't mine, it's actually Brainiac 5. So. Are you new to this place, or have you simply been relocated to my room from your previous one?"

"Then I hope someone has already filled you in on the situation here. It could be detrimental to your health if you were to assume there was no danger around."

Something he had unfortunately experienced first-hand, though it had less to do with the supposed monsters roaming the facility every night - of which he had seen little, and when he had come across such things it was difficult to say what the truth of the situation had been - and more to do with certain red-haired psychopaths.

Now that he was finished with taking notes, or at least for the time being, Brainiac 5 was surprised to notice he was actually becoming quite hungry, though on reflection it most likely had something to do with how little he'd eaten at lunch. His mind had been on other matters then. He drew the tray of food closer and neatly began slicing up the meal.

"I've actually only been here three days," he said calmly. "But as another group of patients have arrived today, I'm interested in what that suggests about the turnover rate of the population."

"Actually I'd be more concerned about some of the patients," Brainiac 5 said, a flicker of annoyance in his tone. "Some of them clearly deserve to be here." It was clear from his expression he was thinking of someone in particular though, so he may have been somewhat biased ( ... )

"If you must know," Brainiac 5 sighed, "There's a man by the name of Grell. He has long, red hair, glasses, and particularly vicious teeth. I would suggest that you avoid him at all costs. He's a dangerous psychopath with no issues about injuring others. Plus he's delusional and insists that he's actually some kind of god ( ... )

"Hardly. What would I have to gain by lying about my origins like that? If I were going to lie, it would make more sense for me to say we were from a similar time period in order to establish a sense of connection ( ... )

If anything, Brainiac 5 seemed actually surprised by the joke. "Why would spreading rumours about different worlds be of any use to those in charge here?" he asked, clearly confused. "If anything, I would be trying to convince you that you were insane, correct? Not to mention if you did laugh at my assistance, then I would simply return to my notes and leave you to discover these things on your own ( ... )

Brainiac 5's lips twitched upwards into another faint smile. "A twelfth level intellect, actually," he said smugly. "So yes, 'some kind of freaky genius ( ... )
