This time, just after the intercom's jingle, the faint sound of a radio or a television could be heard in the background as the Head Doctor began to speak ( Read more... )

Van was falling apart, he could see that now as every part of him started to fade away. His fonons were separating from him, being torn from him by the Planet Storm. Already, he could feel his consciousness begin to fade.

He had been so close, so close. To think that it was the useless replica who would ruin everything. Perhaps, he had been a fool to think that there was anything he could have done. The Score was truly absolute, after all.

No, he had managed to get this far. He couldn't allow himself to simply give up and allow the world to end as was foretold. There was still a chance, however small that was, that he could still do something. Lorelei was within the planet's core, he couldn't be too far from him. If he could still have just long enough to open his mouth and sing-

"Mr. Roe?"

Suddenly, he was whole again. Whole and very, very confused as to why he was now in such a sparse, white room. And wearing such flimsy clothing at that. Had he been too late and was now dead? This wasn't the sort of thing he was expecting to see after death. To forever drown in miasma for his sins maybe, but to be sitting in what he could only guess was a hospital room? Well, perhaps that was hellish in its own way...

"Mr. Roe?" the voice repeated again. Van turned to see that it came from a smiling, seemingly pleasant nurse.

He could only stare at her for a moment before he finally spoke. "Excuse me?"

The nurse's smiled faded. "Mr. Michael Roe, that's your name. Don't tell me you forgot."

"Ah, no of course not. I misheard you, that's all." Van frowned, still confused. Perhaps, he had somehow found his way back on the outer lands and this all somehow resulted in some sort of case of a mistaken identity. If that was the case, it may be of some benefit to play along. There would likely already be news of Van Grants' death, it wouldn't do to rise from the grave too soon.

"Good. Now lets go to the Sun Room and try and get that frown off your face."
