When Guy woke up, he was still feeling triumphant. They had actually pieced that riddle together! Sure, it had taken some time to put their heads together and figure it out, but in the end they had managed, which meant he was back in his bed this morning instead of being sphinx food ( ... )

That easily answered his question, but Guy still couldn't help letting out a sigh. This was the first time he'd had to deal with the reported memory loss himself, and he could already tell that it was going to be a hassle having to explain everything all over again. Maybe it wouldn't have been so annoying if it wasn't Asch ( ... )

While Asch was never known for being willing to give up information, the way that he had evaded the question pretty much spelled out that he knew about his own death. In that case, there was no reason to keep on bothering Asch about it, and so Guy left that alone ( ... )

It was pretty obvious that Asch hadn't run into any monsters, since he didn't appear to be injured in any way. It wasn't easy to get away from one of the beasts here without sustaining some kind of wound unless you were armed, and Asch obviously wasn't yet. And he probably wouldn't be for a while, since Guy didn't even have his own sword, though he was lucky enough to have one loaned out to him.

But seeing how monsters were common back home, he didn't think he needed to go to any effort to convince Asch that they were real. The God-General probably already figured it was true.

"All right. The only people I know are still here for sure are Anise and Sync, but there might be more." Though he had less faith in Ion and Jade being around as the days went by. He wondered if Anise had check the Fon Master's room again last night.

When Asch started to eat, Guy was reminded of his own meal and took a few bites of the eggs, which were already starting to get cold. The silence made him consider how unlikely this was, but after working with Asch a few times when he had been here before, Guy had slowly started to get used to being around him.

He still felt that bit of discomfort, especially when he recalled some of the more terrible things Asch had said to and about Luke, but considering that he had been willing to sacrifice himself in the end, Guy knew he couldn't hold as much of a grudge.

Not that Asch's attitude was ever going to go away, and if Luke really was here again, Guy knew that seeing the two interact would set him off. But for now, he could just explain.

"Probably not. It's hard to tell what happens to them, but apparently some people were brainwashed into thinking they really were crazy and then they actually go on to live here. Oh, right, this isn't Auldrant. We're on a plant called Earth," he explained. That would probably be harder for Asch to ( ... )

Even though Asch might have tried, Guy still took note of the emphasis and frowned for a moment before responding. He wasn't even sure why Asch's particular brand of attitude got to him so much, when he was usually so tolerant of things like that, but he wasn't going to dwell on that right now ( ... )

It was just like Asch to come out with it all of a sudden, and while Guy knew it had to be harder for the God-General than he was letting on, he was glad that Asch had put it on the table so they weren't stepping around it any more ( ... )

Despite that, Guy noticed the similarity in Asch's voice. It came out only rarely, but whenever it did, it was hard for him to ignore. It made him pause for a moment before answering, since he felt a twinge in his chest as he found himself once again hoping that Luke was back. Even if he didn't necessarily want his friend to be stuck in this terrible place, having him here was better than not knowing where he was or what was being done to him. Part of Guy knew that Luke could take care of himself, but he hadn't seen his friend for a year, and then when he'd finally run into him again, it had been in this place and Luke had been missing a good deal of memories.

And then he'd had to lose him all over again.

But this was Asch he was dealing with now. Eventually, Guy glanced up, hoping that the God-General would just ignore that pause. "I'm not really sure. I'd think they must have some extremely advanced technology, and at this point I'm working on the assumption that finding that technology and figuring out how it works is our key ( ... )
