As he talked, Forte became much louder as his pride overrode caution. "I was built by Dr. Wily (the only thing he ever did right), to be the most powerful Super Fighting Robot in existence, so I could destroy the world's hero, Rock Man. He was the strongest, but I was built to be faster, stronger, more powerful than him in every way. If ( Read more... )

"I am sorry we went astray. Tis completely my fault." He looked especially at Alec as he spoke, even though he moved into the new hall--hopefully the correct on this time. "I get carried away." He wanted to say so much more to Alec, but he founds it difficult to get the words to come.

"I have this plan of something I want to do, and I want you all to help as you can, if you will. You can defend yourselves. Some of us aren't as good at that. I'm going to recruit couriers. Messengers. Some of us will need defenders, bodyguards if you will."

Trevelyan shrugged. "Gas seemed to be the most logical explanation." He'd seen too many people die that way.

When Armand started to speak about his plan, he was immediately interested. "Go on," he prompted, trying to provide what encouragement he could.

The spider up ahead was being such a beast. It wasn't playing at all even though it had two people to play with. Two! What a greedy thing ( ... )

TK kept his focus on the hall ahead, carefully focusing on the commotion he could just make out in the dark, and--

He thought he'd seen something a lot closer, just out of the corner of his eye. When he looked, there wasn't anything there, but there were footsteps that couldn't be accounted for. "We need to keep moving." Under most circumstances he might have dismissed it as just hearing things, but this place didn't work by those normal rules.

Citan had his head cocked, listening to the sounds that had come up and weren't typical to the asylum. He didn't see anything, but he didn't have to.

"I agee," he said, narrowing his eyes and drawing himself up slightly. There was something quite wrong here, even if it was another invisible something. And it was quite difficult to fight something you couldn't see. He took a step forward, eyes darting around the hallway, on high alert.

"Let's hurry."

The footsteps and the faint tinkle of laughter, high and girlish, echoed in Armand's ears. They sounded almost too far away, as did his friends' voices suddenly. He felt very grateful that Alec hadn't phrased his words into a question. That allowed Armand to clamp his mouth shut, though he could still feel a pulling, like a faint breeze, through his nose. It was the same thing again.

He didn't want to waste any breath in talking nor give himself time to panic. He broke into a run, not back the way they came like before but toward the next door. His fingers closed around the knob but couldn't quite grasp. He wasn't practiced with holding his breath, and what little there was was being actively drained. This door wasn't locked. It just needed opening, and they'd be in the next room.

It was the laughter that alerted him to something afoot. Then the air seemed to be pulled from Trevelyan's lungs and he knew his initial analysis had been wrong. Gas was passive - it didn't take breath. It was another of Landel's pets.

Armand began to run, and he broke out in a dead sprint to follow. The lack of air was beginning to freak him out. He was better at holding his breath, but it didn't really help when the air was leaving of its own accord. Oh, damn the laughter!

Oh! They were running! Run, run, run. Let all the air escape from their lungs in their panic - how delightful. The sylphs chased after Armand and Alec, their giggles fading in and out of the air as they pulled at the men's hair and clothes, trying to get them to take a breath. Just one pretty breath was all they needed to take all the pretty air away from them.

From down the hall came footsteps that seemed to run along the floor and then up the walls, but the sylphs were sad to see that more of their brethren weren't coming. Someone was just playing a silly joke.

Which, speaking of jokes...Citan and TK were far too calm! They needed to have a little fun, too. Breaking away from Armand for a moment, one of the sylphs slipped over to TK, running circles around him. Her form slipped in and out of view and then she came up by his ear, whispering a joke in her own language and laughing as she pulled the air away from him now.

TK started to sprint after the others, holding his breath as soon as the whatever-the-fek-it-was seemed to get closer to him. He tried swatting at it when he could see it, but it wasn't exactly clear whether that was doing anything. He just headed for the door and hoped Armand would have the bloody thing open by the time he got there.
