"You're calling me crazy for trying to open a door? This from the guy who's talking about killing someone? Man, you suck!" Kon laughed cheerfully, his earlier concern about attracting giant monsters completely forgotten. This time he was certain Sanzo was exaggerating with the talk of killing the head doctor. He was a good guy and good guys didn't kill.
Sauntering down the next hall Kon looked over the names of each room. Most of them didn't seem worth the time, laundry, mail, water. Boring. He could hear voices from inside the janitor's closet but what the hell would you expect to find in there? The name on the last door on the right made him pull up short.
"Hey man, check this out!" Patient possessions had to mean their stuff would be in there! Maybe he could get his costume back. If he was really lucky his Hypertime jacket might be in there too. Even if he couldn't leave yet, he'd feel way better knowing where it was. And that it hadn't blown up and vaporised someone or anything like that.

"Fine, open it." Sanzo stepped back. No reason why he had to waste effort screwing with the doors if Kid could do it. "Don't play dumb," he added. "you know exactly what I meant."
Considering Kid's earlier reaction to the talk about killing Landel, this was different. Sanzo hadn't been joking. There was plenty of reason to want this man dead. He was dangerous. Leaving him alive would only lead to the risk of all this happening again, even if they managed to escape.

Beginning to reach for his TTK, Kon frowned and hesitated. It felt... wrong somehow. A little like something was missing and he was just fishing about where it used to be.
Nah, he was just being stupid now. Shaking it off he tried to push the TTK out into the door again but this time not only did it definitely not work, his head exploded in pain as soon as he tried. Dropping his flashlight, Kon yelped again and stumbled backwards, clutching at his head. It couldn't be the end of the night already could it? He didn't know why else his head would be aching like this again, like it had at the end of last night. Screwing his eyes shut, Kon hunched over, still clutching his throbbing head and wishing they'd just knock him out already!

"What's wrong?" Sanzo demanded. This was a sudden change, one that made him instantly wary. Had the door been trapped? Or was it something new? This reaction was far too close to a youkai about to go apeshit from the Minus Wave.
The monk didn't draw close to check on him just yet, hand tightening on the gun.

Raising his head he squinted about, looking for whoever was coming to get them. Unfortunately moving about had the side effect of sending a wave of nausea through him, eliciting another pained groan. Maybe he could just point Sanzo in the direction of whoever came and he could hold them off until Kon could think without it hurting?

Even if Kid was an idiot, it was better to pay attention to a potential warning on something like this. It'd be stupid of him to discount it.
Sanzo tossed the cigarette to the ground and quickly crushed it out. Stepping away from Kid, the monk raised the gun and flashlight as one.
"Stay down and shut up," he murmured over his shoulder. He squinted into the darkness. His flashlight seemed weaker, but there wasn't anything he could do about it right now. Sanzo turned, shining the light the opposite way.

Its form was humanoid, though it more closely resembled the modern folk tales of Bigfoot than an actual person, and although it was not in the state of decay that many of the institute's creatures were, a weak smell of filth and rot still wafted from the dark hair that covered its body, which had been matted by the dried blood of earlier victims.
The monster made no growl or roar as it lumbered forth, but its heavy footsteps easily announced its presence. Heavy arms lifted and yellow teeth jagged in the weak light, it lurched towards the source of the light.

The approaching thud of something heavy was a good enough distraction to make him lift his head from where he'd curled in on himself against the wall. Scrabbling for his flashlight, Kon picked it up and added its beam to Sanzo's.
Squinting at the dark shape he could see, Kon straightened as best he could, staying close behind Sanzo. That thing looked dangerous and he wasn't sure one person could handle it. No matter how awful he felt he wasn't going to abandon his partner when he needed him.
Too bad moving even that much meant he had to fight back his dinner's attempt at making a repeat appearance. Maybe if he hurled on the thing it would go away?

Sanzo turned, pointing the flashlight at it. The beam hit the thing's chest and massive arms. He tilted the flashlight up slightly, enough to catch a glimpse of shining teeth. Whatever it was, it was humanoid. Probably the biggest thing he'd seen so far.
Hopefully it had eyes in there. Sanzo aimed the light directly at where eyes would've been, and with his other hand, fired the Smith & Wesson directly at it.

By the time it was close blood was oozing out of its wound, but it paid no attention as it raised its arm up and swung a meaty fist down at the patient that attacked it.

Leaning there, trying to ignore the pain, it took Kon a moment to remember his partner. Sanzo was OK, wasn't he? The monster had charged straight at him and Kon hadn't even thought to drag him out of the way. Turning to check on him, Kon struggled to focus through the spots dancing in front of his eyes. He could see the huge shape of the creature easily enough but Sanzo?

He barely had time to duck out of the way, but it still wasn't quick enough. The thing was far too massive, and with that weight behind him, the momentum was enough to carry the thing forward faster than he could dodge. The large fist clipped his left shoulder, and everything on down from that instantly went numb. The flashlight was knocked out of a suddenly nerveless hand, skittering a few feet away on the floor.
Sanzo hit the wall on his side and swiveled, to awkwardly fire another shot at it as it went past.

All it wanted was to kill, to beat down the patient that dared to retaliate. The lurcher's mighty fists lifted, and when it drew close enough it immediately brought them both down in another mighty swing.

Kon flinched at the second gunshot, but as far as he could tell, it affected him more than the monster. The monster which was swinging at Sanzo again. He couldn't just stand here and watch it beat on his friend, no matter how much moving hurt.
"Hey ugly, over here!" Yelling as loud as he could to try and distract the thing, Kon threw himself forward. Grabbing for a handful of the thick hair to pull on, he swung wildly at it with his flashlight. Ugh it reeked! Hurling on the monster was looking more and more likely though it probably wouldn't do much.

Sanzo had time to get a whiff of rancid blood as the other bullet hit home, and then Kon yelling at it for some reason, and that was about it. The thing had turned on him, sickeningly fast. Two meaty fists came hurtling at him. The monk barely had time to raise his gun arm when they connected with him. There was a sharp flash of fire lancing from his ribs on out, and he was suddenly knocked backwards.
He hit door behind him hard, hinges caving under him as he came crashing into the next room. Blackness engulfed him before he even hit the ground.

There was a rough tug as something pulled at its hair before it was followed by a hard slap against the back of its shoulders. The creature, forgetting about its first victim, began to wildly swing its fists around, trying to reach back and grab the nuisance that was attacking it. Meanwhile, blood continued to pour, pooling down at its feet and slowly draining the life out of it.
