Night 38: F21-F30 Hallway

Jan 24, 2009 19:46

Ururu hadn't talked much during dinner. Talking to Yukito during fourth shift had made her feel a little better, and she'd eaten something, but she still wasn't happy. She wasn't crying anymore though, and that was a good thing. She had promised to meet Kurt that night, and Ururu knew it was important. She wanted Kurt to know that he was still ( Read more... )

Okay, it looked like she had two projects that were on the large side to do again tonight... but she'd had ice cream for dinner again, so she should be good for it!

As frustrated as Skuld was with her situation, she had a job to do, and she wasn't going to let anything discourage her from it. She grabbed her journal and flipped through it to find the relevant arrays.

[coming from here]

By very carefully placing each step on his admittedly short trip across the hallway, Hanatarou had managed to arrive outside of F30 with his armload of pipes still in his arms and not scattered across the floor. But once there he realized he had a bit of a dilemma.

He glanced up and down the hallway uncertainly, then down at his very full arms, then at the door in front of himself. "Ah...um, Skuld-san?" he called, hoping the person he was supposed to meet could hear him. "It's, um, Hanatarou with the metal you needed? Er...if you could maybe open the door...?"

How much had he brought? "Coming!" Skuld jumped up and opened the door. "Uh... figured better safe than sorry?" That was kind of a little too much for one sword.

"Oh, I heard from the person above you," she added. "She's coming too, but I can do two people at once, it looks like."

Hanatarou blinked at the girl who opened the door, managing a somewhat weak smile and nod. "I, er, didn't know how much you'd need," he replied. "Maybe you could, um, use the leftovers for something, or...someone else might need it?"

He moved forward with somewhat exaggerated caution, trying to see where he was placing his feet lest he somehow trip over nothing yet again and drop the entire load. "Do...does it take a long time? I can, um, leave this here and come back tomorrow, if it's too much work for you?"

"Too much is better than not enough. It doesn't take too long, but I have to do both at once," Skuld admitted.

"If you want to wait, I can have it for you right after Willow gets here, but if you can't you can pick it up tomorrow." Truthfully, she was a little worried about doing a full-sized sword and a small ax, but there was so no way she was admitting it.

Did he want to wait? There was still quite a bit to do this evening, not that he really knew just what his team's assignment was yet. Hanatarou glanced over his shoulder in the general direction of where the other two waited, then back at Skuld. It would probably be useful if he were armed while wandering the building at night, and if he didn't get it now he'd just have to run back over tomorrow anyway. But he didn't want to keep the others waiting, either.

"I...I can't wait too long," he replied, slowly, looking a little uncomfortable. "I'm supposed to be going somewhere else. But if she gets here soon, then...?"

"Waiting a while's okay," Skuld nodded. I swear, I'm going into the kitchen to steal tea the next time I get the chance.

Once again, left sitting around during Nightshift with not much to do... great, just great.

The silence stretched uncomfortably as Hanatarou glanced around the room in search of something to talk about, fidgeting a little. He'd agreed to wait, but, well, hadn't considered the fact that meant he would have to wait. In a room with a total stranger. With nothing to really talk about except, maybe, 'so how about that sword you were going to make?' which wouldn't really involve a lot of fascinating conversation.

"Um..." The shinigami cleared his throat quietly, shifting his weight from one foot to the other. Given that he didn't know how much longer he had left in the night, it would probably be best that he left earlier rather than later. "It's, um. Well. I should probably be getting back, i-if she isn't here yet..."

As much as Skuld wanted to show off to an audience, she said graciously, "If you need to go, it's all right."

It would be even more boring to wait alone, but she hadn't gotten much of a chance to work on Sigel, so... now would probably be a good time, anyway.

"I'm sorry, I...well, there are people waiting a-and..." Hanatarou's voice trailed off as he made some kind of vague gesture that could have been meant to convey apologies and regret that he couldn't stay any longer, or perhaps indicate said people waiting and blame everything on them. "I appreciate the effort, though, a-and, er, you can just finish it when you get the chance?"

He bowed and edged toward the door, looking mildly flustered. Everyone was probably wondering where he was and regretting the fact that they'd been stuck with him for the night. If they hadn't already just gone ahead without him, that was...
