Nightshift 38: M11-M20 Hallway
Klavier had to agree. It was hard to believe something would happen to either of them without there being so much as a warning. There was a big difference between being distracted and being absentminded. Though it sounded like Endrance was a bit more informed than he was letting on, or at least had some kind of theory.
There was a specific noise his fellow patient seemed to have in mind... though the way he hummed it indicated he was talking about a single perfect note rather than a 'noise' per say. Had the conversation been anything else, Klavier might have been more willing to point out how nicely that had come out. As it stood, it was simply puzzling. What could such a noise have to do with a kidnapping?
"A noise... that sounds exactly like that?" He paused for a moment, considering the sound again. "I cannot say I heard anything like that either. What would--"
He was cut off suddenly by a noise. No, it wasn't the noise Endrance had indicated, unfortunately. Instead, it was a ghastly mangling of sound vomiting itself from the PA speaker, which almost immediately ground itself into the side of Klavier's skull. It was like a painful jab of needles which caused a cold feeling to run right down his spine. This was hardly a sensation of fear. This was complete and utter revulsion, one that caused him to abandon the conversation at hand to whip his head up at the speaker in what could almost be anger.
Then, that voice came on. It sounded very different from the voice he'd heard only moments earlier, but it was doubtlessly the same man. Far more disturbing, however, was what he was saying. 'I sometimes wished you all stayed alive long enough...' This was chilling, to say the least. At least it answered the question regarding the nature of the hospital's legitimacy. Shame it only raised further questions.
That grating static got even louder, near the point of being unbearable, before finally cutting out. Honestly, Klavier was speechless. And utterly disturbed. "What... was that?"
