The door that led outside didn't even need to be kicked in, and Gin crept out, a thin smile still on his lips, even if there was no one around to see it.  Nothing yet, though the outdoors were notorious for all kinds of creatures.  He kept his light off as he slunk to the other door, not wishing to gain any unwanted attention, most ( Read more... )

He hurried back the way they'd come, once again seeing little that was noteworthy. Gin slowed to make sure the boy kept up and took a look around now that they were outside.

"Doin' alright back there?" he glanced back, wondering if the kid would collapse before they even made it back to the main hallway.

"I'm okay, don't worry." It wasn't too bad as long as he didn't try to move fast. Yukito waved a hand a little, as though dismissing his new friend's worries. He tried to walk as quickly as possible out here, though.

This was the patio where the giant birds had attacked Yue and the others, so he was a little wary of being out in the open like this. Of course, he wasn't throwing anything at the roof, so maybe the birds just wouldn't notice them there. Still? He didn't want to hang around.

Reno cracked open the door a little wider, heard nothing but the quiet, and shoved the door open all the way. If he calculated it right, the door should stay open just long enough for Yuffie to scurry through, too, without him actually having to bother holding it open for her.

"Rude isn't, he's not a jackass on purpose, yeah?" he said casually, somehow feeling the need to say something on his partner's behalf. "I mean, not usually. But he's made his circle and he likes what's in it, and you, you're just not in it. You know?"

He shrugged, as if he hadn't really said anything important and poked the end of his pipe at the door to his left. "C'mon. We'll call this the surprise part of your tour 'cause I got no clue what the hell's behind here."

Yuffie was perfectly content to let the Turk do most of the leading - he, at least, had some idea of where they were (she hoped)... More of an idea than she had, anyway. As fun as it was to roll wherever the wind took them, a little direction was kind of nice, once in a while.

She slipped smoothly through the closing door, taking a welcome breath of the cool, fresh, outside air. “Yeah, well,” she muttered. “Whatever. It was a hella stupid thing to do; he’s just lucky I’m a kind and benevolent kind of girl, or I’d have introduced his face to the business side of a cheese grater already. He isn’t gonna do himself any favours if he alienates any potential allies just ‘cuz he wouldn’t know tact if it smacked him in the nuts with a clue-by-four.”

Kind of cute that Reno seemed to feel the need to defend his boyfriend, though. Keeping close to the wall out of habit, Yuffie glanced to the sky, then nudged Reno forward with her elbow. A more genuine grin flashed across her face. “If that’s the way it is, ladies first.”

"Hey, well, if you wanna," Reno replied easily. "You know, if you can find a cheese grater and overcome that gentle nature of yours."

What? His defense of Rude only went so far. He sure as hell wasn't going to protect the guy's ass from a girl.

He snorted softly when Yuffie nudged him forward, giving the patio a final once-over. Man, the tables were practically radiating light. Freaky.

"I'm too pretty to be a woman," he said, opening the door a crack and slipping through.

The area out here was just as empty and silent as they'd left it. Probably a good sign, but who the hell knew? He wasn't about to stick around to find out.

"Well, now, see, that's a bit of a double standard, don't you think?" he remarked, still baiting her.
