[from here]

The gas had dispersed enough that it only caused a faint irritation at the back of his throat, so Brainiac 5 pushed open the door the rest of the way and ventured inside. His flashlight illuminated neat rows of yellow and dark blue cabinets, some of which had obviously already been opened and gone through. Unfortunately there was no larger equipment that looked like it might have had something to do with how he came to be here, but there was always the possibility that the smaller cabinets would contain something useful.

"Let me know if you find anything that looks highly advanced and complicated," he said to Grell. Admittedly that was a rather vague description, but not knowing what to expect he could hardly be more specific. He opened one of the yellow cabinets and carefully began to look over the various containers of chemicals, but so far, everything was fairly normal for such a facility.

The smell was worse in here as far as Grell was concerned, but then he hated having anything irritate his senses. He'd hated London before the sewage system went into place and he'd hated it when the rivers ran low. Unpleasant smells were one thing he'd never get used to, no matter how long he lived. Holding his flashlight out as Brainiac 5 went into the next room, he managed to keep the smile off his face completely when he saw the rows of cabinents. Unfortunate that some were already broken into, but he was certain he'd be able to find something worth playing with ( ... )

"Peroxide? No, not what I meant," he said, just managing to keep an exasperated sigh to himself. "Look for something along the lines of the computer in the other room - technology, not chemicals." He shone the flashlight over the bottles as Grell moved away to look through the other cabinets, there was always the possibility that what he was searching for would be hidden somehow to keep with the appearance of 20th century technology levels, so as much as he hated having to waste time, it was important he look over everything with a relative amount of care ( ... )

That flash of instinctive fear was all that Grell needed. The boy had turned around and he seemed so completely...stupid. Here was a man holding a scalpel and he wasn't even running. What a shame to have this be the first blood he spilled here.

"In here?" he asked, holding the box up. "Not quite."

Now that his eyes had adjusted and had picked up their usual green sheen that came with using his powers, he could see Brainiac - poor little robot boy - looking up at him like he was still that stupid butler. He did so love it when his victims didn't realize the danger they were in. Grinning wide, he gave Brainiac 5 a toothy smile and, in a flash, Grell drove the scalpel hard at the boy's shoulder, intending to drive it through flesh and into the cabinent behind him.

He had enough time to register the unnatural glint to Grell's eyes and the broad, predatory smile then the scalpel was thrust forward, catching the light again as it bit into his shoulder, ripping through the skin and muscle with distressing ease. A cry of surprise was ripped from his throat as pain lanced through his head, accompanied by a cocktail of chemicals as Brainiac 5's new body tried to react to the attack. But it wasn't helped by the fact that Brainiac 5 himself was still largely in shock. He'd never experienced pain quite like this before, it was raw and unable to be controlled or suppressed as he was used to.

For a moment he stared in stunned horror up at Grell, then he was moving, heart hammering in his chest, fighting purely instinctively to try and get free. The blade tore deeper into his shoulder and in response he fought harder, blindly lashing out at his assailant. "What are you doing?! Stop!"

[ooc: sadly, I nerfed him like whoa, so he isn't strong enough - he's pretty strong and fast, but nowhere near what he was in canon]

The smell of fresh blood and the sight of it on his hands, the thin spray that exploded from the flesh where the scalpel bit into it - cinema, beauty, absolute perfection!

But no Record.

Robbed of one joy, he had to partake in another and that was the pain and shock and fear on Brainiac's face and the beautiful red blood everywhere. Stepping back, Grell left the scalpel in Brainiac 5's shoulder. He balanced the box in one hand, moving to put himself between his prey and the door and smiled at him as he took the rounded pair of glasses off and slipped them into the box. The facade was gone, so he had no use for the timid voice or the mannerisms. "What do you think I'm doing, darling ( ... )

Gasping with pain, Brainiac 5 reached up to grasp at the blood-slicked handle of the scalpel embedded in his shoulder. His hand was shaking badly and he gave a faint whimper as it slipped off the handle, jerking the scalpel up at an angle, but on the second try he was able to get a better grip and with a cry pulled it free. Grell was between him and the door, and his arm was bleeding badly - he hoped distantly that the attack hadn't managed to sever anything vital - his mind hazing from the blood loss ( ... )

The scalpel glanced off and Grell sighed, pulling another from the box. It was a shame that they weren't real throwing knives, or even just a better weapon. He'd have to get up close and personal in order to make the boy bleed again. Grell could tell he was slower and he was weaker than he used to be, which was concerning, but he'd been expecting that with the sudden humanity and all. It was still annoying though.

Taking a step forward, he held the scalpel in one hand, waving it carelessly as he spoke. "Because of that, yes, and because you annoy me." Another step forward and he held the scalpel a little tighter, changing his grip on it, ready to attack. "You insult me in public, belittle my immortality, and you expect me to stay quiet about it? God exists, and beneath Him, the gods who work for Him. To think otherwise?"

Suddenly darting forward, Grell tried to drive the scalpel into Brainy's other shoulder, ramming their bodies together and grinning like a madman. "That's insanity."

"Your attacking me won't prove anything," Brainiac 5 managed to snap in something that was approaching his normal tone, but his eyes were fixed on the scalpel in Grell's hand and he was shaking all over. Shock and adrenaline, he thought numbly, he needed to try and get away from this psychopath before he took any more damage and risked going off-line. But Grell was in front of the only exit, and was taller and stronger than Brainiac 5 was. He was at a clear disadvantage, so he would have to ( ... )

"God isn't meant to be proven. That isn't the point of belief." Of course, Grell knew rather than believed since he worked for Him, but that was besides the point. More importantly, however, was the way the little robot was shaking. His hands, his body, the small tremor behind the otherwise normal voice were all signs of shock and fear for his life. Grell loved that. It was a perfect harmony, like the mind and soul and body were all singing together for once, crying out the only line that mattered like a heavenly chorus: 'I want to live. I can't die like this ( ... )

It would have been safer, smarter, to keep silent but he was confused and still gasping for air, and perhaps subconsciously Brainiac 5 thought that, even if it cost him his life, he wouldn't pretend to believe something he didn't. "Such beliefs... have no... point," he managed around attempts to suck in lungfuls of air. It occurred to him that while agreeing with Grell most likely wouldn't make the man let him go, saying such things would probably just antagonise him further and probably wasn't a good idea ( ... )

"In my case, it isn't belief though," Grell admitted, suddenly jabbing the scalpel through Brainiac 5's right hand. He sighed and pulled back, running a hand over his shoulder to toss his hair over it and then picked up another scalpel. The blades weren't nearly as strong as Grell would like, but the blood was all the same. Running the flat of the blade against Brainy's cheek, Grell smiled, ignoring the scrabbling hand in favor of the fear in the boy's eyes.

It was the same look that those women had just before his beautiful angel had taken their lives. When her knife fell, it was perfection. The cuts and the blood, her anger and grief all mixed in together to create the most beautiful picture he'd ever seen. For it to have ended as it had was a real shame, but that was how mortals were sometimes. "I work for Him, you see. So I know He exists, but you mortals - you have the choice to believe or not, but you cannot deny to me my own existence anymore than you can deny His ( ... )

Brainiac 5 could hardly care about Grell's delusional beliefs of working for a god at this point, as another scalpel stabbed through his hand, splattering more blood across himself and Grell, though the other only seemed to enjoy that. He flinched instinctively at the coldness of another blade against his cheek; at first a gentle touch and then cutting into the skin as Grell pressed down harder. There was stinging pain, somehow sharper than the previous injuries and a sensation of something hot - his own blood - sliding down his cheek. The feeling was mirrored on the other side of his face and for a moment Brainiac 5 wondered if Grell had cut him there too but then he took in the prickling of his eyes and realised that he was in fact crying, an uncontrolled reaction from the fear and stress ( ... )

Were those tears? Brainiac 5, the great and mighty 'robot' was crying? Grell almost wanted to laugh at the sight. So even little tin minds could cry. Good to know. The fear was something he hadn't tasted in awhile, but to have shaken the boy to that level? Absolutely delicious.

He moved in for the kill, but before he had a chance to strike, something hit him first. Flinching, Grell twisted away from the bottle as the glass hit him and shattered. The first thing Grell felt was shock that he'd been so careless as to let the boy get any sort of weapon in his hands. The second thing was absolute fury. What if that glass had hit his face?! If he scarred, he'd rip this boy apart in the afterlife, follow him to Hell, ressurect him, and kill him again. His face! Did no one have manners anymore ( ... )

The moment Grell had released him and jumped back, Brainiac 5 had moved. Adrenaline coursed through his system again, this time helping him stagger towards the door and plough through it, hissing in pain as his shoulder impacted the door sharply and jolted the scalpel still lodged there. But he didn't have time to remove it now, not with the sounds of Grell screaming at him indicating that he'd only succeeded in making the man madder ( ... )
