Nightshift 37: Main Hallway, 1-Center

[From here]Ophelia slowed to a stop when she saw more moonlight streaming down into the area on her left. She grinned wider, able to make out the features of the Sun Room in that dim light. And to her right, there were other doors as well, which she had vaguely noticed earlier in the day but paid no mind to. Oh decisions, decisions. Should she ( Read more... )

It moved slowly, jerkily, as if not used to motion at all, and a dull light came from within the creature's body. There was no illumination on the walls, nor did it leave a shadow on the floor.

The lucentien kept on its slow path, determined and deliberate in its movements. It had its prey in its sights, and it wanted it. The dim ambient light of the hallway illuminated its gold claws as it moved forward to strike at the lone woman in the hall.

It seemed impossible that she hadn't seen it coming earlier, but there it was now: a glowing, surreal-looking beast had appeared in her peripheral vision, and was slowly stalking towards her. It looked like it could have been an awakened being, if awakened beings were able to give off their own light. That alone made an intense hunger to fight it flare up inside her, current weaknesses be damned.

Her eyes darted around first and, seeing nothing better around her to pick up and fight with, she readied the solid, black object she had found under her pillow, hoping to bash the thing's head in when she was able to get in at the right angle. "Come at me, you wretch. I dare you," she snarled with a menacing grin.

The lucentien seemed to take the dare, letting out a low, almost inhuman sound as it moved forward, slashing out with those long, knife-like claws. It glowed a bit brighter as it slashed out, the light reflecting off the golden talons as it did so.

The monster wanted blood, and as such, it went for Ophelia's chest, but would take whatever it could get - if it was her arm or her leg, that suited it just as well.

Ophelia instinctively moved in reaction to the coming slash, intending to dodge right and move in. Even with the practice she had been doing in her room, however, she badly misjudged the speed at which her new body would move to get out of the way. She hissed in pain as the monster's claw slashed deep across her upper left arm. She started to seethe and growl as she ran around the monster's side. No, she wouldn't let it get the better of her. She was going to make this body work, damn it!

Seeing a potential opening, she leapt at the monster with her makeshift club, aiming for the head with the hope of knocking the creature off balance.

The monster didn't flinch at the impact as the club hit the side of its head. It made another low noise, but the impact didn't draw blood, and it didn't leave a mark. It was as if nothing at all had happened to it.

As such, it wasn't deterred at all from its attack. It kept moving, movements jerky but deadly, as if it were a mannequin intent on killing. It struck out again with those bright claws a moment later.

Another growl of frustration as her "weapon" seemed to bounce uselessly off the side of the thing's head. She heard a dull cracking sound around the object's glass top, though she was less concerned about that than she was about the pain throbbing in her left arm and the need to get out of the way again.

Another slash came down across her shoulder as she tried to get back, and she cried out sharply. "Come on! Move, damn it!" she yelled at her weak body, rage and frustration boiling through her as she ducked and rolled behind the beast. She glanced behind her at the Sun Room, wondering if there was anything in there that she could use against her opponent. For now, she took a defensive stance, ready to come at it with her bare hands if she had to. She knew that she could run, but she wasn't going to take that option until she had absolutely no options left. There was no way she was going to accept defeat so easily at the hands of a creature that so resembled an awakened one.

Two hits, and the woman still hadn't given up trying to attack it. If it had the sentience to do so, it would have congratulated her on her accomplishment. As it was, though, it could only grunt.

It sensed the movement and followed - slowly, always slowly - as Ophelia tried to duck and roll away. It turned around, keeping its weak spot hidden and behind the woman. It wanted those claws forward, always forward.

Beatrix had arrived at the designated meeting point to find not only HK-47 already there, but Ophelia engaged in a fight with the golden creatures. The ex-assassin smirked, giving a nod of greeting to HK-47 as she passed him and approached the fight.

She stopped far enough out of the creature's range and leaned against the wall, arms crossed as if she had no worry what-so-ever about being there. Sticking up over her shoulder was the hilt of a katana, but she didn't draw it.

"Having fun?" The Bride asked the bitch, having noted the woman was already bleeding pretty decently from two wounds. She'd been right, this was enjoyable to watch. Maybe the bitch would ask for help, but she doubted it. At least not yet.

She tensed as the monster turned to face her again, which only caused her wounds to hurt more. She grit her teeth together, trying to ignore the pain.

And then look who had to show up.

Ophelia caught a glimpse of Arlene over the glowing creature's shoulder, looking on at the fight so smugly. Ophelia glared harshly back at her. Rather than saying anything in return, she swore to herself and kept her defenses up. She would wait until she saw movement that looked like a strike, then attempt to dodge and take the creature's legs out from under it with a sweeping kick.

The lucentien detected the second presence, but didn't move to attack it just yet. It was a simple creature at heart, and once it had focused, it was hard to break it. So, it kept on with its attack on its current target, swiping its claws out again.

A low chuckle came from the Bride. "A pleasure to see you too."

She turned her focus onto the creature, watching its movements, just in case it decided to take its focus off Ophelia and onto her. This was a gold glowing creature with claws and metal-like skin. That meant it was the creature with the healing blood, which meant she knew where it's weak spot was.

No need to give that away yet.

Ophelia did her best to ignore the growing number of people gathering in and passing through the hall now, keeping her eyes focused as much as possible on the monster.

With its jerky motions, it was hard to tell what was going to be a strike and what wasn't. Because of that, when she finally did see the creature's claws swipe out, she was again too slow to react properly. She was able to get down, but the claws caught her other arm, tearing through the test wound she had made earlier with the pen. She cried out in pain and exasperation as she flew forward on the path that momentum was carrying her in. She swept her leg out in the best form she could at the beast's ankles, but the angle was off thanks to the pain coursing through her body.

It smelled blood, and knew its prey was weak. The second person didn't appear to be jumping into the fight right away. If it had a face, it would have grinned.

The kick to its ankles knocked it off balance, just a bit, enough to knock it off its path briefly. It needed to take a moment to right itself and adjust its motions.

"How much longer are you going to be, Ophelia?" Beatrix tracked the creature, holding off for just a moment. From her estimation, the thing was completely vulnerable to her given she knew exactly where to strike.

A glance over showed her SubZero had arrived as well. Okay, playtime was over. "Never mind; I have use for you," the Bride stated, which required Ophelia to be alive - for the time being.

Unsheathing her sword as she stepped into the fray, the ex-assassin kicked the at the creature's shoulder to continue to keep it offbalance and, all in a fluid motion, struck to slide her blade directly into the vulnerable spot on the creature's lower back. Her intention was to twist once the blade buried itself in the weak point as she bore the creature to the ground.

If it trapped Ophelia beneath it... Oh well.

Ophelia landed hard on the ground beside the monster after the kick. She went down on her bleeding shoulder, which sent another sharp wave of pain through her body. She tried to move her arms to push herself back to her feet, but her wounds wouldn't let her; instead, the weakened warrior fell back down to the floor face first instead. Just like she had in the woods the previous day. "God damn it," she hissed under her breath, just barely able to see Arlene unsheathe a sword and plunge it into the creature's back. It's not fair! Then the thing was falling right towards her. Ophelia scrambled to get out of the way, but again, the wounds across her arms and shoulder kept her arms shaking badly. Only half out of the way, the monster's surprisingly heavy body landed on top of her legs ( ... )

[monster death confirmed by Jen]The creature went down underneath the Bride's assault, the katana sinking cleanly into it's vulnerable back. She twisted the blade, golden blood flowing from the wound, to make sure, not paying one bit of attention to Ophelia until the creature stopped thrashing ( ... )
