There didn’t seem to be anyone in the hallway, and no light to see by aside from Superboy’s flashlight. She was used to sometimes working in the dark, however. As they approached, she could tell the door already appeared to be open. Hadn’t one of the other volunteers she’d talked to said the door was usually locked?
If she was right, then that was the corridor where everyone had been taken, assumedly by the staff. That alone put her on her guard. Even excluding their part in it, the fact that these experiments could go on night after night without being stopped was a bad sign.
It could mean no one had been able to do it yet.
Tsubaki didn’t cross straight to the door. Instead, she came up alongside it, looking to the boy with her. They’d have to stick together if there was danger; coordination would be important. “I don’t know what’s in there or what might happen,” murmured Tsubaki. She slipped the pillow case from her shoulder again. “I ripped up as much fabric as I could for bandages. Just in case. I’ll leave it just inside the door.”
She’d need both hands if anything happened.

Nodding absently in reply to her explanation, Kon determinedly pushed away the feeling of being exposed which had returned with a vengeance. He'd feel better after he got to punch a few bad guys in the face. He vaguely noted a couple of other prisoners had entered the hall but they kept moving towards the open door at the end so they couldn't be Tsubaki's friends. Not that they'd need the help.
"Through there? Got it." Smirking cockily Kon said, "Now sit back and watch the master of tactile telekinesis in action babe." Striding towards the open door, Superboy swooped into action.
