As had been the case the previous night, Near wanted to be the first to certain areas, and the silence seemed to indicate that they would be. Flashlight in one hand, Near abandoned twirling his hair, letting a lock spring free, and gripped the rail instead

Nate wasn't quick, by any means. So, while Brooklyn could have moved at a much swifter pace, he held back to make things easier for his current ally. The boy had said he was a detective, hadn't he? He couldn't help but wonder how he handled his cases if he didn't get out much on his own...
