Nightshift 36: Main Hallway, 1- East

[from here]No one here yet. That was promising as far as them reaching their intended destination before anyone else did, but not so promising in that it meant any number of things could be waiting for them just around the next corner. Brooklyn felt for the weapons at his side, though it wasn't necessary. He could tell they were there from the ( Read more... )

The number of patients steadily trickled off as Near and Brooklyn pressed forward, until the pair was utterly alone. Near was, as always, observant of their surroundings as they moved, and certain to stay close to Brooklyn. He was also careful to keep the beam of his flashlight directed in such a way that it wouldn't impede Brooklyn's enhanced vision; the last thing he needed to do was to blind his fellow.

"To the end." Near bypassed the first stairwell, opting for the one one the far side. It would force them to backtrack a minimal amount, but it would also decrease the opportunity to be attacked from behind. The area around the Sun Room had been particularly dangerous, and thus Near wanted to avoid it as much as possible.

Pretty empty so far. Gin kept his flashlight trained on the area in front of them and trusted Ran enough to watch their backs and the new girl as well. It was still fairly early in the night, so he hadn't even caught the scent of blood, at least not in this direction.

Tsubaki smiled back in response.

Just because she wasn’t able to make use of her full potential, she’d still try to be useful in what ways she could. Hopefully the night would work out without her lack of equipment becoming too much of a problem, either.

She fell into line, making an acknowledging noise at Gin’s joke. At least she thought it was supposed to be a joke. It was hard to tell.

“The weapons you had were made here, right? Do you have an idea of who I should talk to about getting one too?” she spoke into the darkness, keeping her voice pitched at a cautious low. She’d been thinking about it on and off all day, and now more than ever, it seemed like she’d have to seriously consider finding a primary weapon for herself, for when what small knifes and things she was sure she could pick up wouldn’t be enough. The idea of just posting a request to the bulletin board in the morning felt a bit rude.

[D: Oh god, I'm so sorry -_- I completely missed that we'd been moved on and it was my turn D: *fail Zalia is fail*]Rangiku sorted softly at Gin's sarcasm, amused by it even if she probably shouldn't be. Some people found the monsters a terrifying proposition after all. She followed them along the corridor, keeping her attention mainly on her surroundings, listening intently for anything which might have decided to sneak up on them ( ... )

It was hard not to notice the reiatsu of the other Shinigami, harder still not to notice when something went wrong. And while he didn't care for either of the ones involved, Ran obviously did. To him, it was more a relief than anything, though his expression never hinted at it. That wasn't the face Rangiku would want to see, not right now.

Should they head over to check on the other shinigami or continue with their mission? That was entirely up to Ran. She probably wanted comfort and human kindness and those... those were feelings in which he was truly lacking.

"Hnn..." he said quietly, just so she knew he understood. He glanced over at Tsubaki, fairly certain she didn't know just what was going on, but hoping she would give Ran a moment to collect herself.

The tunnels of the prison widened, giving her the faintest outlines of the numerous somethings that littered the halls. Up. River's eyes honed in on the stairwell leading up, and her feet carried her desperately.

Up. Up meant away.

It was about time he started working off those pancakes. He could sprint like a marathon runner with just smokes to fuel him but in the absence of matches or flaming salamanders to light them with, real food would have to do.

The mafia wasn't on his tail this time so he just focused on not running into people or things that would eat him along the way.
