Nightshift 36: M-C Block Hallway

The second hallway was at least better lit than the first, due to the light from some others' flashlights. So it's not the Dark Hour. That still didn't provide much of an explanation as to where he had awakened, though ( Read more... )

from hereLong dark hallways weren't so fun to walk down when your heels weren't clicking on the tile (or whatever it was) floor. Grell missed his clothes. He missed his scythe. He missed not having to breathe. Stupid punishment. Stupid power seal. Stupid, stupid Will. This was obviously all his doing. Not that Grell had the foggiest how a supervisor could do this sort of thing, but Grell's misery usually sprang from that bibliophile. If only he would lighten up a little, he'd be just Grell's type, too. What a pity ( ... )

[from here]The hall was quiet, the stillness broken only by sporadic clicks and phrases. Bruce watched for awhile, his face a blank slate of shock and bewilderment as he took in the hall. Other people came and went, all males, all wearing the same grey, smiling uniform. Their ages varied, as did their appearances-not all of them had the deadened look characteristic of patients or inmates, but many looked as tense and wary as Bruce felt inwardly. All were unarmed, but most had flashlights. Not that there were many to being with, but it seemed this complex was expansive enough ( ... )

There wasn't a single trace of London in the air. London had this smell about it, something that wasn't entirely fragrant, but most definitely very London. Whitechapel had been positively--

"Um...miss?"

Well, well, now. It looked like someone was coming to play. Stopping in his tracks, Grell turned and looked the newcomer over. Handsome, youngish, foreign, and most definitely human. How delightful. And smart enough to recognize a lady when he saw one - what a bonus. If he was being punished by being forced to walk around with a bunch of mortals, then maybe this was a test. He couldn't sense a death god's presence around the newcomer, but that didn't mean they weren't watching right now to see if Grell repeated his poor behavior in chopping him to bits ( ... )

Bruce Wayne wasn’t corrected for his mistake, and he found himself wondering fleetingly whether this was a common occurrence. Well, it likely did take an unusual character not to feel fear in this sort of situation; rather, the stranger seemed more...frustrated than anything.

He shook his head.

"I’m afraid not. I’ve only just gotten here...and I have no idea how. I suppose I could have always drank too much, but you know how it is with those parties. I just went to bed and woke up here, in this godawful uniform, and then I saw you."

Oh God...Please don't let me die today!

Traveling down the length of the first hallway outside his room had been nervewracking, but Fwiffo was slightly heartened by the realization that his journey was nearly half complete. He was remembering the maps correctly, the "arterial hall" Signum had described should be at the end of this relatively shorter hallway. Of course, then they would be venturing into entirely new, and undoubtedly dangerous territory, assuming his teammates had not grown impatient and left him stranded, at the mercy of whatever monster came by.

Fwiffo knew he wasn't making very swift progress: he was forced to decide between unaided short, slow steps, and a slighter longer stride that forced him to cling to the wall for balance. But after coming so far, it would be pointless to retreat, would it not?

Still nothing of particular interest, Brainiac 5 noted. But that was to be expected considering that it was, by all appearances, nighttime and any people would presumably be asleep. However he had yet to find any promising areas to investigate either. He wished he still had his scanners and flight ring, which would have made this situation more bearable. He felt mostly blind and deaf, as well as completely unable to avoid any kind of danger that might be waiting. Whoever had gone to the trouble of abducting him had to have a reason after all. Regardless, there was little point in him spending any more time than necessary in empty hallways, so he continued on through the doorway to his left.

Nny stalked past the other forms in the hall quickly, ready to lash out at anyone who dared to stop him. He didn't even bother to look at the map as he went past the other room halls, towards the door at the end of the main hall. As single-minded as he was at the moment, he would be horribly unprepared for any monster that might jump out at him. Hopefully that wouldn't be an issue.

The next hall was empty and creepy, just like the first one. Just what he needed, when he was feeling even more exposed than before. He hadn't felt this vulnerable when he'd been trying to save the world from Bedlam, and he'd been able to reach into their minds and pull out the worst dangers they - and by 'they' he meant Bart - could think of to set to kill them.

The hair on the back of his neck was standing on end and he felt like someone was standing right behind him or something. He'd never felt this freaked out by some creepy old building before. It was just - he couldn't fly. Luckily there was a door right next to him. All he needed to do was get out of these creepy halls and kick Black Zero's ass, save the worlds and go home ( ... )
