Nightshift 36 - M11-M20

Oct 28, 2008 14:40

Nightshift tended to prove just as lackluster as Dinner. At least Tyche was there to give the Gambler company for the previous shift (and she received most of his steak. Enjoy it as he may, he just never felt right about eating it). Without a roommate, there was little to complain about, so he simply watched as the kitten tunneled herself under his ( Read more... )

It was difficult to get much sense out of Takaya's mumblings, but Frey gathered that something bad had happened with a visitor. Someone's nose had been broken? Clearly it wasn't Takaya's, so that meant probably the visitor? Oh dear. Hopefully Takaya hadn't hit whoever it was with his broken wrist.

The drugs were wearing off a bit faster now and he started to strain against the bonds on his chest and legs. Takaya didn't want to return to a body that was bound and in pain. Kagetora wanted to lash out ... worked out fine for them both.

Blinking, trying to make sense of the world around him, he reached over and fumbled with the straps on his wrist.

Frey was just about done with his dinner, so he put the empty plate and the uneaten dessert aside for a moment, and moved to undo the restraint on Takaya's nearest ankle. Like with the wrists he decided against trying to lean or crawl across Takaya's body to reach the far side.

He froze for a moment when Frey reached over, but didn't actually turn to look.

Damn it. He couldn't get a decent hold on the straps and hooks. He made a soft frustrated sound and lay back to try to get the one across his chest off.

Frey moved away as soon as the ankle strap was undone, as he felt Takaya stiffen up. It saddened him that even now Takaya couldn't seem to trust him even this much, but there was little he could do about that. Frey moved back to his chair, and started on his dessert, watching Takaya carefully. "I don't know how to get the others without touching you. I'm sorry."

Damn it!

It wasn't his fear, it was Takaya's messing up their responses. Kagetora tried again, but the straps just wouldn't cooperate.

"Coordin...nation's shot," he managed through gritted teeth. "Go ahead. Help."

Well, that was a change. Frey hesitated for the length of a heartbeat, then leaned over and undid the strap over Takaya's waist, then his other wrist. He pulled away again as quickly as he could, then moved down towards Takaya's feet. Still, he kept a close eye on Takaya's responses, ready to stop if any sign of that stiff panic showed itself.

More of that insipid fear escaped and he could feel his muscles tremble slightly as he held himself still. Once the straps were gone he sat up and held his wrist, frowning down at the new splint that had been put on.

He thought about movingit and causing pain, but Takaya was already on edge andif the boy got any more upset it could effect his behavior as well.

Frey frowned at the trembling, but there was only that one strap left... hoping it didn't get him kneed in the face, he leaned over and quickly undid that last ankle strap.

That done, Frey turned his attention to Takaya's wrist. He was holding it, and it looked like it had been re-splinted. "So you did make it worse. I'll tend to that now, Takaya." If it was indeed Takaya.

Kagetora frowned and let go of his wrist, making no move to offer it to the boy and instead leaned against the wall behind him. The drugs were still making him fuzzy.

"No." His tone was empty, bland, nothing at all like the anger he still felt or the nausea from the sedatives...

He would not in-debt himself to this ... roommate. What Takaya did was his own problem.

Takaya could be prickly, and defensive, but his emotions always showed through very clearly--when he was angry, he was obviously angry, and when he was flustered he was obviously flustered. This coldness was not Takaya. Frey found Takaya infinitely preferable, but the body was Takaya's as well. In any case, Frey would not deny healing to anyone based on their poor personality. "I don't recall asking your permission, stranger."

Takaya raised his right hand and, without warning this newcomer about the bright flash of light, activated the healing powers of the Dawn Rune.

Kagetora was very good at not crying out in pain, so all he did at the flash was bring up his good arm to try and sheild his eyes from the light. A soft grunt managed to escape his throat, but that was all.

When it faded, his vision was dark in spots and he blinked, trying to dispel the water that had collected there.

While not!Takaya was distracted, Frey healed the wrist as much as he possibly could. He felt the pounding starting in his temples and pushed on anyway, until the bone began to knit. It wouldn't be up to full strength, but it was as close as Frey could get it under these circumstances. A wave of dizziness tumbled him over and Frey braced himself with one hand, dismayed when he realised that it was planted not on Takaya's bed, but on Takaya's leg. Oh dear.

Every muscle in his body froze at the touch, and an ice cold slightly blind gaze snapped from Frey to the hand and back again.

Rather than touch the offending limb, He just shifted his leg out of the way. "Don't. Touch. Me.

Frey was not seeing so clearly at the moment, himself, so he missed the sheer venom in the glare. But he did shift his hand to the side, wobbling a bit until it hit the bed and he managed to recover his balance. Such as it was. It was a miracle of sorts that he wasn't keeling over entirely--Frey imagined this man would have responded to that quite poorly indeed. "My apologies. It was not intentional." Having to apologise to such a man, too... how galling.

Kagetora didn't say anytning else and just glared at Frey for a moment longer.

"Go pass out on your own bed," he said, voice still low and empty.
