Nightshift 36: F1-F10 Hallway

Oct 28, 2008 10:52

Sheena kind of felt bad leaving Elena with her obviously upset, but she guessed there were friends coming for her and they were definitely more equipped than the strange ninja that happened to be her roommate for handling these things. So, fresh cards in hand, with less ink stains on her hands than before, the ninja set out ( Read more... )

He said he was coming, so she would just have to trust in him. Miku tried to do a number of things to relieve her growing worry, but one could only count what was left of her meal, the tiles on her floor with a flashlight (and a rapidly dying one at that), or the holes in her blanket before she stopped and dangled her feet over the bed. Tonight was the night they would be stealing more people from their rooms, wouldn't they? She had thought she heard someone, a strong female voice commanding the nurses and orderlies to let her go, earlier just after the final day shift's announcement, but now she wasn't sure.

Her head hurt, maybe it had just been a doomed ghost. Miku shuddered and pushed her feet back and forth. This wasn't like her at all. She should go out and find Sousuke, not wait and let him find her. Miku had had quite enough of waiting in her lifetime, hadn't she? But, a voice of reason piped up stubbornly, if she was hurt in that short walk between rooms, it would hurt Sousuke more.

Miku stayed put.

After a short while, there was noise down the hallway. Loud noise.

Sagara noise.

"Hey! NINJA GIRL!" the bellow was familiar, but the tone, on the other hand was not. Miku flicked on her flashlight and followed its dying beam out the door. Sanosuke was getting ready to raise Cain on the door, or so it looked.

"Hey!" Miku squeaked and slipped off her slipper. When he didn't respond (obviously intent on beating the door), Miku threw the slipper as hard as she could. Surprisingly, given her lack of physical exercise, the slipper flew true and bounced right off of Sanosuke's spiky, dark head.

"Be quiet!" the little photographer yelled and stomped back into her room, sans one slipper.

Sousuke moved slower than usual, still unsure of what to do about the fact that he wanted to protect Miku with all his heart. And yet, Kaname needed his help, as fake as she was. He wouldn't abandon here. But it felt as though first things needed to come first.

By chance, as he walked down the hall, he tripped over a slipper. Frowning, the sergeant picked it up and and continued on his way to the room. Gently, he knocked on the door. "Hinasaki?"

She really shouldn't have thrown that slipper, Miku decided in hindsight, alternately swinging her bared toes over the floor and dragging them across the cold tile. Maybe Sousuke wouldn't notice her padding barefoot around. They had to meet the person from the board tonight, too, and it wouldn't do to be unprofessional about her research. She had to know what the woman wanted, what had happened, something, anything at all about her purpose!

She heard the knock and stood up from her bed quietly, pulling herself to the door. It was time to hide what she felt and try to... fix the sudden awkwardness in her heart. Miku opened the door carefully. "I'm here, Sousuke," she replied and looked at her slipper. "...I see you found what I threw."

Hanyuu had tried not to think about it throughout the day, but now that night had begun she didn't have any other choice. Arlene wanted to talk to her about something, and the woman had already said that everything wasn't okay. What could that mean? Hanyuu could think of a dozen different possibilities, and none were ones she wanted to hear...

Once the intercom clicked off and the doors unlocked, the spirit belatedly remembered she was still without a flashlight. After Arlene's message, she forgot to check back at the bulletin and ask where she could meet that person who had offered their light. She'd have to remember to write a note for him in the morning and apologize, but for now it looked like another night without a flashlight.

'Auau'-ing, Hanyuu looked out into the hall. It was awfully dark, and she couldn't really hear anything. Night had only just begun though, so that likely explained the lack of activity. Nodding in an attempt to reassure herself, she slipped out of the room and hurried down the hall.

Yuffie was sulking.

Today had sucked, and she... needed a moment. Needed a moment to put the pieces back together, to shove the stuff she didn't want in the small, dark corner in the back of her mind.

Rolling over, Yuffie pressed her face into her pillow. She had to get over this. Cloud would be fine - Cloud was Cloud, and royal pain in the ass or not, he could take care of himself. So what if he'd left her here? She'd just have to yell at him for it. But Cid... where was that rickety old chimney? If he was still here, he wouldn't get away with worrying her like this!

Dad, though... If it really had been him.

It had been just like old times. The bickering had been bitter instead of sneakily playful and good-humoured; it hadn't ended with a noogie or a rib-crushing one-arm hug. It had ended with a really sore throat, and she couldn't think of a snappy, witty metaphor for how much it had gotten to her. At least it wasn't anything new, and she'd given as much as she got(and then dished out a little extra on the side, naturally). It ( ... )

When he finally made it to the block of women's rooms, Sanosuke immediately ducked into the first hall. He'd never learned Yuffie's room number, but he still had ways of finding her. Ways that were by no means subtle, but that were definitely him. Besides, of all the people, he really had no reason not to embarrass the hell out of Yuffie by screaming for her in a potentially crowded hall.

So that was exactly what he did.

"Hey, NINJA GIRL!" Sanosuke began to walk down the length of the corridor, keeping an eye out (as much as he could) for any signs of response to his yelling. "I know you're in one of these rooms, and I'm not stopping until I find you, so come on out already!"

At first, Yuffie didn't recognize the voice shouting in the hallway.

But when she lifted her head a little out of curiosity... oh, geez. It had to be Sagara, didn't it? "Can't you go grope somebody else tonight?!" Yuffie yelled back, ignoring the pain in her throat. "I'm busy!"

Or, at least, she would be busy. And after the incident on the Rec Field, dealing with the fist-fighter was the last thing she wanted to do.

Oh hell no. There was no way Sanosuke was going to let Ninja Girl brush him off like that. When she yelled, Sano quickly made his way down the hall until he was standing in front of the right room. "Like hell I will." His grin was a wicked one, and he was just about to kick Yuffie's door in--

--When a slipper suddenly bounced off his head. What the fuck? Despite his temper, Sanosuke had to look in the direction it came from. Then he had to laugh when Miku of all people yelled at him to be quiet before running off. Girl definitely had spirit. She'd be good for Sousuke.

That distraction over with, Sano turned back to the door. He had been going to kick it in, and he was still tempted. But Miku's diversion took the edge off of his temper, so instead, the fighter let himself into the room; he figured she knew he was there anyway, so why knock ( ... )

Kagura hadn't seen her roommate, which was troubling, but Max seemed like she was a pretty strong person. Besides that, there was a lot to get done tonight and she might actually be able to help instead of being in need of rescue.

The cardboard box from last night was still in her closet, full of some old clothes and the bottle of wine she'd picked up in the church. If not for Bridget's injury, she was sure she would have run crying in the other direction. The box she carried in one arm, her chewed up staff in the other.

Bridget was going to meet her at M7, but first she had to drop this off to the boy(at least she assumed it was a boy since they were meeting in the boy's block) in M3.

With a confident smirk on her face, Falis strutted down the hallway, sword resting on shoulder, to Namine's room. She gave a knock.

"Oi! Namine! You ready?"

Much like Orihime, Naminé had felt unusually exhausted through dinner. She didn't even touch her meal, and had only started on chewing on the fries when Orihime excused herself. As for Naminé, her instructions were to wait for Alita and she did so while attempting to swallow down cold fries. As for the steak... well, Naminé never really liked steak to begin with.

Alita didn't take very long though, and Naminé had enough time to pack her usual pillowcase of items before the princess knocked on the door and called out for her.

"Yes, I'm ready!"

Naminé opened the door, stepping out to greet her friend. It didn't seem strange to her that Alita would ask her to wait, as the safest meeting places were in the patient rooms.

"Where are we going tonight?" She was sure Alita had plans, Naminé was just never aware of them until they were too late.

Falis, once again armed to the teeth, gave Namine her customary wild grin when the girl came out. She made grabbed one of her stakes and twirled it before handing it over non-pointy end first.

"We're going to get a few files on a couple people," she said. "So... where do we find them?"

Alita had not forgotten about her weapon, and Naminé gave her friend a grateful look. Before she could properly thank her friend, Alita asked her a question that she thankfully knew the answer to.

And the best part was that they did not have to enter the Sun Room for once. Although... if history repeated itself, then that didn't seem to matter.

"Yes, the room across from the Sun Room contains two file rooms, and I've been in one of them before," Naminé explained, taking out her map to show Alita. "There was a nurse guarding it, I'm not sure if that's normal or if we were unlucky."

Funny that Alita needed to go to that room, of all places.

"It was actually the first place I visited when I woke up here."
