Day 36: Intercom, Evening

Oct 25, 2008 03:05

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements ( Read more... )

When Falis had to leave Hokuto and the Sun Room, she delayed long enough that her nurse started taking her back at the same time Yukari's nurse gathered her. This was going to take a bit of acting, pretending to be an enthusiastic teenager with the overly friendly and talkative vulture, but it'd be worth it. Sure, she'd have some explaining to do to Yukari the next day, but if it all worked out, that would be a acceptable consequence of her actions to deal with ( ... )

[didn't just reply with the wrong character journal, what are you talking about. =P]

A frustrated Senna came in to Alita acting like the cat that caught the canary. Great. At least one of them was happy.

She sighed, throwing herself on her bed before turning and grabbing the plate off the desk to pull next to her. "Yo," was her only greeting before shoving a few fries in her mouth.

Falis tracked Senna's movement through the room and her smirk faded. She cocked her head a bit.

"You look like you just had a pint of rotgut instead of the ale you ordered," Falis stated. "That's usually solved by decking the asshole that served it to you. Since they haven't poisoned you, I'll take a gander that you didn't deck anyone.'

The bounty hunter stabbed a piece of steak. "So what happened?"

She took the time to eat a few more fries. "I don't think I understood what you just said, but no. Haven't hit anyone. Wish that solution would work."

Senna looked up at Alita. "Are these days really, really short to you?"

"Basically, what I said was that you looked like you were expecting one thing and ended up with something nasty instead," the princess explained.

"And I've never really thought about how long the days are." Falis shrugged. "I get done what I need done, usually. Sometimes the vultures cut things short, but that's about it. The nights... those seem kind of short."

"I guess that's about right," she replied, taking the plastic knife to the steak with a vengence. She ate a couple bites before replying. "I don't really know about that--only had one night to go off of. But these days seem ridiculously short. I'm in a shift, I meet someone, start to ask them some questions and it ends."

She fully sat up on the bed, stabbing the fork into the steak. "Every shift is a couple of minutes. Then it's night. So the day is an hour long?! I still don't know what the hell is really going on!"

Falis looked at Senna, obviously confused.

"I don't know what's going on with you, but I managed to play an entire strategy board game earlier today," Falis replied.

"What the hell," she stated. She was silent for a bit, the only thing heard was the sound of chewing as she gorged herself on the food.

"I don't think I'm crazy enough to imagine this. Since I've been here the days have literally been just an hour or two." She frowned, troubled that it wasn't the same for Alita. "Is that even possible?..."

Falis shrugged, finishing her food. "Everyone says the time acts funny here. I doubt it's just you."

The princess got up and went about her dinner ritual of yanking the wooden poles out of the closets. Back at her bed, she dropped the two new poles down and then puleld out from unde rher matress the single stake she had left, the braided cloth bandoleer and nice, beautiful, shiny katana that she didn't have the previous night since it'd been in Hokuto's room.

Sitting down on her bed, Falis glanced up at Seena. "Don't freak out on me cause I'm taking my shirt off," she said before proceeding to do just that. She still had the undergarment on and the lack of shirt revealed the bandages on her shoulder, With an annoyed look and a small wince, she started to pull the bandages off., revealing a thick line of stitches a good five to six inches long.

"Huh," Senna replied. "Guess I'll have to ask my questions faster next time."

She continued finishing off her food, watching Alita curiously. Senna leaned over her mattress, fishing out the spear from the night before to prop against the wall. She looked up again when Alita spoke, noting the bandages. Getting off her bed, she went to the other girl. "Hey, you need some help with that? If you pull them by accident, it'll just have to get stitched again."

Falis scowled, unhappy about the stitches, but knowing that the angle of their placement just wasn't the best for her to get to herself.

'Yeah... ok. I just need to get a good look at it. I've got some bandages here in a package in my desk drawer to redo them." The princess growled a little. "Fucking demons."

Senna instantly moved to take the rest off, her slender fingers peeling up the edges easily. She blew on the stitches, so the moist skin would dry out a little quicker.

Leaving Alita for a minute, she sorted through the drawer mentioned, and found the bandages. "Uh, how do you want them? Exactly like they were?" Senna had no experience putting on actual bandages, but it couldn't be that hard, right?

"Real demons?" Senna asked. First monsters, then vampires, then aliens, and now demons. "I haven't seen anything at night. That's half of why I'm so confused."

Falis shook her head. "Not yet. I don't want them bandaged just yet," she said, standing up with her katana in hand. She needed to check her range of motion and how much the injury was going to effect her ability to use her sword.

Standing in the middle of the room, making sure to check where Senna was first, she closed her eyes and drew in a deep breath. A moment later and she started going through one of the forms that required her to alternate the sword from hand to hand.

"I dunno if I'd call them real demons since they're normal people like us during the day, but last night they sure as hell were. Fire breathing, lightning tossing, flesh eating demons."

She tossed the back on the bed with an offhand, "Okay," then moved to sit back on her bed to watch again. She wasn't feeling very active.

"Like patients? Or just random people?"

The movements were controlled, but it was clear to Senna, given her knowledge of the sword, that the cuts sweeping upward or to the left using her injured shoulder were visibly lacking in smoothness and power. It hurt to swing her sword that way and Falis scowled, her brow twitching with each cut. This could cause a problem if she ran into any beasties that needed killed this upcoming night.

"They're patients. I call 'em Sparky and Fido. Fido got pissed off I called him that when I mentioned it on the board," she replied. "I told him to give me a different name to use, but he didn't. So he's Fido the Fucking Fire-Breathing Demon until he does."

Asking Alita if she would be okay tonight would just come off insulting, so Senna tried something different. "If you can find something warm to put on that, it should at least loosen up the muscles for more flexibility."

Patients, huh? Now, wait. Why would... "So why are the patients attacking each other?" Senna tried not to sound like a child when she asked, but all she was doing was asking questions. It was annoying her, so it had to be annoying others.
