Day 36: Intercom, Evening

Oct 25, 2008 03:05

The intercom's jingle rang out and the somewhat uninhibited movement that was going on between the main activity rooms halted as the Head Doctor made one of his usual announcements ( Read more... )

Well, this day had been nominally bittersweet. Miku prodded her dinner with quiet contemplation, wondering what to do about Sousuke. The Doctor was cheerfully spewing bull pucky as usual, she'd beaten her roommate to the punch about dinner. And.

Miku looked over her shoulder at the empty bed - her nurse seemed to pride herself on getting Miku to her room first - and wondered if she could get some advice that wasn't caustic or grating from her roommate. Lust seemed to have understanding of the other men, but would she really help or just make Miku so mad she threw her dinner at her?

Miku sighed and pushed her vegetables around on her plate. It was probably going to be the latter, rather than the former. Even if the photographer didn't have a single temper-bone in her body. If Lust yelled back, then Miku would probably just cower.

And if she kept thinking like this, she wasn't going to be able to eat.

For once, since Scar's disappearance, Lust was feeling more at peace with herself. She attributed the change in mood to Luxord, and their conversation (and flirtatious banter) at brunch. She supposed now she could pursue him, if she so desired. There was no harm in keeping a lover around while stuck in this place after all.

She allowed herself to be led back to her room at the end of the day, wondering if Hohenheim would be by again tonight, or if she should see about finding the pale haired gambler and seeing if he truly did want her company this evening...

She ignored her roommate, as usual, and went to her desk to inspect dinner.

For once, in all the time shortly since arriving and garnering the silence between them like a shield, Miku took initiative and turned to her roommate. The woman's back was to her, uniform making Lust's form as shapeless from behind as Miku (though admittedly, the older woman filled hers out better).

"Lust," her voice was plaintive, issuing a question. "Have you ever had feelings anyone?" The thought was laughable - the woman seemed to be as self-centered as could be and certainly ruthless. Miku kept her eyes on her roommate, and felt a little like a frog staring down the proverbial snake.

It was a question Lust had been asked before, but coming from her roommate - whom she hardly spoke with and barely acknowledged - it startled her some.

"Why?" she asked curiously, her attention not wavering from her dinner. Had someone been speaking on things they shouldn't to the girl? Lust's mind immediately went to the dangerous dance she and Envy had begun - manipulation was one of his strong points.

Or perhaps the girl just needed some form of feminine advice. In that case, didn't she have friends she could speak to?

Kvothe looked thoughtful as he returned, sorting through everything he's seen in his head. The library had proved useless but he wondered how he could use the supplies in the arts and crafts room. Maybe he could get into the staff's supply closets as well, overnight. He hoped, anyway.

"Hi," he said as he dropped into his desk chair and eyed the dinner with interest. He hadn't eaten anything like that in years.

"Yeah, it does." He started cutting his steak. "It was interesting. I got a better look at the place, I think I'm going to try to get back to the Arts and Crafts room tonight, get some things out of the cabinets there."

Despite the rather large meal he'd eaten at brunch, Leon was starving by the time he got to his room. The time he'd spent exercising on the Rec Field had helped clear his mind, though he was still worried about what would happen when night fell. As soon as the nurse had left, Leon checked the drawer of his desk, making sure that the tranquilizers were still there. Maybe that's where he'd go tonight, if nothing happened, see about finding more doses.

With a goal in mind, Leon turned to his meal. The one bright point about this place: great food. He kept an eye on the door as he ate, waiting for Yohji to come back. Hopefully the other man would be less upset by the time he got back. Leon wasn't terribly good at dealing with very emotional people.

Yohji wasn't feeling any better by the time the nurses dragged them out of the courtyard, and the nurse talking about how nice it had been for 'Mr Hunt' to come and see him and wasn't he glad? For a moment, he had to suppress a flash of near homicidal rage that she could even speak about it like that, and he could understand why Ken had fallen so far as to look forward to killing, to enjoy it, because he would love to feel his wire tightening around the bitch's throat.

He managed to compose himself before entering his room though. No-one else needed to know after all, no-one else he wasn't close to at least, which seemed to be becoming a dwindling number. He smiled faintly, awkwardly at Leon. Feeling a surge of guilt for not managing to do anything last night to help him. "Hey."

Leon glanced up, and returned the nod. "Hey," he said. Yohji still looked... not great, if Leon was reading things correctly. "You all right?" he asked awkwardly. He decided against mentioning that he'd seen Yohji out on the rec field. That would make this entire meal far, far too uncomfortable for his liking.

Yohji shrugged, going to sit down at the desk so that he could at least pretend to eat something. He turned to look at Leon, concerned. "Shouldn't I be asking you that question?" he asked, neatly sidestepping the question. "I'm sorry that I couldn't do anything last night." He'd been all but useless when they'd come for the other man.

Sheena's small nap in the courtyard after making up with Soubi had been nice, but she was still a little sleepy when the nurse took her back to her room. She had the drawings Soubi had given her folded in half, which she put in her desk drawer, and then she laid eyes on her dinner.

Her eyes got huge. "Oh, wow..."

The ninja only ever had steak when she was in Meltokio at Zelos' or he felt like treating her. Such food was only really affordable by the rich,so to see it here was something. She wasn't going to question that something. This ranch might be evil, but it has steak. Sheena sat down and delved into her meal with a grin. The meat was a little overdone for her tastes, but it was still steak and it still tasted very yummy.

She'd start on her spell cards once she was done savoring the expensive, ruch-man's meal.

She was more than a little upset. As if Tamaki hadn't already thrown her through a loop at brunch, and visiting with Tseng had made things ten times worse. When Elena was led back to the room, she quickly crawled onto the bed, sitting with her knees tucked against her chest, ignoring her food.

She was a Turk... she shouldn't be crying over something so trivial. But her eyes stung anyways.

Sheena looked up and blinked.

"Hey... Nice to see you're finally awake. I was starting to get worried." She smiled. "I'm Sheena."

Oh, her roommate was talking. Sniffing a few times, she wiped at her eyes with her hand in an attempt to try and calm down, but Tseng had affected her more than she'd realized.

"Elena," she nodded slightly. "I'm sorry you have to see this. It's been a very long day."

She hadn't been expecting it, but talking to Light had somehow allowed Beatrix to accept that Skuld was indeed a goddess - certainly not a goddess from ex-assassin's world, but one from the young girl's own one. She wasn't going to actually tell Skuld that, but it did mean she had to talk to the Norn again, for reasons that had come up at chapel that morning with the warlord.

The steak was a nice change of pace and the Bride sat at her desk to eat it. She was waiting for Maki to return and eat as well before she brough the sword out to show the other woman. It made her wonder what her roommate would think about it.

Naomi was glad to be back to her room at the end of the day. She was still going over what she'd discussed earlier in the day, all the strange things people told her about other worlds. Nothing had ever prepared her for sorting this kind of information.

Back in the room she shared with Arlene, she took a seat and turned to the other woman.

"I've got company coming over tonight," she said, fishing the cigarettes out of a drawer. "Want one?"

After dealing with Elle and her games, nicotine sounded wonderful. "I'd love one," the Bride said, getting up.

She didn't go over to Maki, though, but instead went to her bed and pulled the sheathed katana out from under the mattress. "The alchemy is real," she said, heading over to Maki to show her the blade.

Naomi looked at what Arlene held out, an eyebrow raising slightly in appreciation. She hadn't exactly doubted that it was real, she just...hadn't seen any proof. Enough people had testified that yes, there were people who could make weapons with some sort of magic that it was hard to discount it, and yet....

It was the rational mind. It continually rejected the bizarre and unexplainable or unknown. Even last night, after seeing monsters and zombies or whatever you wanted to call those things at night, Naomi's mind had tried to reject that creature as impossible. As a nightmare.

Because that was how the human mind worked. Most of them, anyway. Where she was from. The qualifiers kept adding up, the longer she was here. Even though she had mostly accepted all the strangeness in her conscious mind, that part of her mind she didn't control still tried to force everything into normalcy.

"Which one did you go to?" she asked, holding the pack of cigarettes out to her roommate.
